(to those who don't know, the math part was sad because in the audio recordings David often recited the equations, in part because Archer had him memorize the numbers, but also because for David it was a stimulation mechanism. If you do not know what that is, I suggest you research Autism and its symptoms, as well as the associated disorders that usually accompany it.
Both my sister and I have autism, which makes this mission feel rather personal. The music, the helpless look on David's face, how his own brother allowed him to be experimented on against his will, and when he gets caught he tries to justify it with science.., I just wish there was more I could do to help David. I can't remember if I started crying right when I saw his poor face or when he started doing the math... But I must have cried for 10 minutes after this mission.
This DLC was my favorite. At the end I really felt sorry for David. When you're really into the story I guess it kind of had a bit of an emotional effect. Most games I don't usually feel too attached to the characters. Mass Effect, I can really feel for these characters and their loss and pain they go through.
Wait a second...in the good ending I got, instead of "It all seemed harmless," he kept repeating a math problem and then repeated, "And things were looking up."
god this is going to be a hard choice. let a person suffer at the expense of research that could potentially turn the tides of war against the reapers or save one being and lose millions more. I don't know what the outcome of overlord will be in number 3, but if you leave a person to suffer like that for nothing your going to feel like shit regardless.
Illusive man: Shepard, I need the information on the hijacked freighter, it can save many human lives and destroy cerberus if it fell into the wrong hands.
Shep: *Gives the info to Admiral Hacket*
I.M: Shepard! Don't blow up the reaper ba-

*abducts david*
I.M: Shepard. We need to talk. You do know there is no 'i' in 'team' yes?
Shep: And you know that there are at least a dozen tactical warheads on the normandy and miranda lawson?
Cerberus works for the reapers in mass effect 3. Leaving david with them will not benefit humanity in the least. So even were I renegade, the renegade choice is out of the question for me.
On a side note: why are the dlc missions for mass effect 2 so much better than half the core game missions?
I don't understand how anybody could give David back to Archer. It's just so touching and sad what happened to David, who is pure and innocent but forced into and evil agenda at the loss of his humanity.
Besides, you should know that Cerberus would use what they learned from Overlord for evil anyhow.
Sweet mother of god...This scene has so much emotional power,it's indescribable. I want this DLC so bad...But Origin will give EA permission to spy on my system...
BioWare, you literary geniuses. I shed a tear at David's situation. And I had no context.
Templeman's (DA:O's Loghain, ME's Admiral Van'Gerrel and of course Archer) performance in this scene is incredible, but you've got to applaud the animators as well. They can be actors as much, if not more than the people who voice the characters.
I didn't play this DLC. So Archer used his own brother that he can communicate with Geth? Shepard has Legion and he can communicate with Geth thru him, so much easier...
Omg I cried T-T , If in Mass Effect 3 it acts like I left him to that fag like the renegade option I'm so buying this DLC, This is the 2nd time I cry because of ME2 , This game is truly a masterpiece...
@TurboTsunam1 But then again remember, David was desperate only because of the Illusive Man's demands, however I do agree with David's terrible decision on Archer.
@mrspam506 Your getting Archer and David mixed up. David is the one hooked up to the machine. Yes Illusive man had his demands. But Archer is the one who doesnt have the balls to say "fuck off, I cant do this" Like what Shepard did in the end.
this guy must be the most evil charecter ever i mean come on torturing his own brother because he could cummunicate with the geth!? archer is the most cruel guy ever. and it kinda seems pointless shepard already has a geth on his team legion. the voice actor of shepard sounds angry at this part of the game.also nice pistol whip that guy deserved it.
This is what makes Mass Effect one of the best series in gaming. Emotional things like this...damn. I almost teared up at the end on the last shot of David, crying and repeating 'It all seemed harmless'.
I remember playing the game and thinking "You're kidding me, right? They made some of the best damn graphics of this generation and they couldn't figure out a mechanic to toggle the helmets on and off!?"
Even with the Kawashi Visor that boosts your headshot damage, I could stand how it was activated 24/7. Why didn't they at least program the visor and mouthpiece to retract outside of combat?
any reason why he was tortured like that? bechose we whuld not have felt bad if it was just dude hocked up in matrix. they needed visual point to expleane the pain he felt. if he was just siting in chair we whuld have wanted to punch him for screaming to us. this way they can demonstrate the pain.
@tkasich1 I believe yes. When he created the virtual environment Shepard fights in he gave him access to his memories that showed what hsi brother did to him.
IMO this DLC was....amazing,The story was very emotional and beautiful without containing blood. It was my favorite DLC and one i believe every ME2 player should have.
I chose the dialogue option "That's Not What I Saw." Its when Shepard says that they saw David's memory and he begged his brother not to do what he did to his brother.
i wish i could play this, but it says disk unreadable when the satalite comes down...my game is weeks old. bull shit. at least paragon finally got a badass move. my only question is if this will affect ME3. it better not for my sake
So he comunicated with the geth and did that thing legion mentioned taking the square root and changing it by .1 which caused some big change, also what guns did he have on his back
@alevsener2 I agree, I just cant help geting sad watching this DLCs ending... but its possible that saving David will help alter the relationship with the geth in ME3. But I dont know if hats a good thing or bad thing...Id rather have the geth as an enemy then watch a helpless person get tortured.
I was a massive renegade in the game, but this scene brought me to help him and even made me cry a bit. For DLC this receives the award for most emotionally touching and Shadow Broker receives the award for bringing back Liara!
I never liked the helmets in this game. Not because of their look or anything, but because they were present for every instance, even though they should have retracted or something...
@leahcimrac But what he did to his brother aside, the experiments ended plenty of lives already. Not to mention if you have Legion it looks like the Geth don't want war.
@YorkJonhson Fair points. I just feel with the pressure Archer was put under he only did what he felt he had to. I doub t his brother was forced either.
@leahcimrac I wouldn't argue that Archer felt that he had to do it. But I don't think David ever wanted to be plugged into that thing. The images he makes you see pretty much show it was all his brother's decision.
@YorkJonhson To be honest I played through it again last night and I think David was forced, but maybe he did it willingly to help fight the geth. I do still feel a bit for Archer however. Like he said "It was an accident" and "the demands were incredible." We all know what the Illusive man is like. Its storylines like this that make Mass effect so great.
I understand your reasoning, but I severely doubt that a man constantly screaming "QUIET PLEASE MAKE IT STOP" over and over again for over the course of the entire Project Overlord mission is someone who "volunteered" to be put in that position.
@MartialArtsMaster Perhaps he volunteered at first, but then couldn't cope with the results. Archer is a man under extreme pressure to deliver results. David is the innocent here fo course, but at the end of the day he could save millions, if not billions of lives due to the war with the geth. I know Legion doesn't want war, but the reapers and the heretics do. Archer isn't a bad man whatsoever in my opinion, he made decitions normal men and women could not comprehend.
Frankly, that sounds a little self-righteous, if that's Archer's opinion. "I'm allowed to do whatever I want, because it's SO HARD making the decisions that MERE MORTALS like yourself could NEVER COMPREHEND."
If that was really what Archer was thinking, that makes me dislike him even MORE, not less.
A cruel person is usually stopped right away. But a cruel person with "high ideals" is almost never held accountable because he always has so many supporters willing to defend him.
also a funny thing, to hook a person up to a computer, you would have to hang him on the pipes through his hands and arms like he is jesus, force his eyes open with metal pieces, put a collar with inward pointing spikes on him, leave him hanging in the air.
i dont know why you guys cry on that mission, if not the irrational torture i described, i wouldnt even feel sorry for him
@ubertubered Well if you did the option to rewrite the renegade Geth, they are now of one mind who wants peace. Which may play a part in them helping you fight the reapers anyway.
This is the reason why I love the Mass Effect and Bioware. They put so much emotion and thought into their games creating a truly emotional story and experience that allows people to place their own choices and . The game has more choices that truly give you a big thought on each life that dies, the consequences, which being greater than the other, and it's just a work of art.
Most games in the market like CoD and Halo are for idiots who like random violence while M.E is enjoyed by the mature.
@dodbrian Oh, so mature people can't like CoD or Halo? I like both, just as much as I love ME. Matter of fact, Halo and ME are tied, while CoD is... less so.
Okay, let me say that games like Halo are the generic "Aliens invading Earth and we fight, we have a super soldier to fight them so we win" type of game. It's been like that for many games, having that one factor, Crysis, Halo, Gears of War. but seriously, it's usually generic killing of large crowds usually by yourself or with a bunch of useless teammates. M.E focuses on a different approach, stories, choices, you could actually feel bad for someone dying in the game.
I usually go full renegade, but I could never bring myself to make the renegade decision for this. There are some lines you should never cross no matter how desperate, and this took a giant leap over that line.
The ending of Overlord is a masterpiece. This misson should not be a DLC 'cos it contains possibly the most touching moment in the entire game which may be missed out by many players. Releasing an expansion pack sounds like a better idea to me.
The worst part of all of this is that if you complete Legion's personal mission the Geth aren't a problem anymore. So even if you went with the Renegade option to try and protect the galaxy you still made a poor choice. That's why Overlord is the best DLC to date. No matter what you do it still hits hard.
I shot archer.

@YorkJonhson Fair points. I just feel with the pressure Archer was put under he only did what he felt he had to. I doub t his brother was forced either.
leahcimrac 10 months ago
@leahcimrac I wouldn't argue that Archer felt that he had to do it. But I don't think David ever wanted to be plugged into that thing. The images he makes you see pretty much show it was all his brother's decision.
YorkJonhson 10 months ago
@YorkJonhson To be honest I played through it again last night and I think David was forced, but maybe he did it willingly to help fight the geth. I do still feel a bit for Archer however. Like he said "It was an accident" and "the demands were incredible." We all know what the Illusive man is like. Its storylines like this that make Mass effect so great.
leahcimrac 10 months ago
@leahcimrac
I understand your reasoning, but I severely doubt that a man constantly screaming "QUIET PLEASE MAKE IT STOP" over and over again for over the course of the entire Project Overlord mission is someone who "volunteered" to be put in that position.
MartialArtsMaster 10 months ago
@MartialArtsMaster Perhaps he volunteered at first, but then couldn't cope with the results. Archer is a man under extreme pressure to deliver results. David is the innocent here fo course, but at the end of the day he could save millions, if not billions of lives due to the war with the geth. I know Legion doesn't want war, but the reapers and the heretics do. Archer isn't a bad man whatsoever in my opinion, he made decitions normal men and women could not comprehend.
leahcimrac 10 months ago
@leahcimrac
MartialArtsMaster 10 months ago
@leahcimrac I need to see the rest of this DLC before I can argue with you.

I... how does David speak with those tubes crammed down his throat?
TDA792 10 months ago
Admit, David scared you a lot in this DLC.

also a funny thing, to hook a person up to a computer, you would have to hang him on the pipes through his hands and arms like he is jesus, force his eyes open with metal pieces, put a collar with inward pointing spikes on him, leave him hanging in the air.
i dont know why you guys cry on that mission, if not the irrational torture i described, i wouldnt even feel sorry for him
funnybunnygirl1 10 months ago
i like how they picked a very simle square roots and make them look genious

The fact that Archer's not dead or in Alliance custody pretty much makes him a lock for ME3.
deepshockonYT 10 months ago
Most emotionally involved mission if you ask me... that bastard should be tortured slowly that no good SOB
fbballkid 10 months ago 2
Also how is this good? One guy has to suffer sure, but complete control over the geth? Come on the reapers are going to be fucking shit up people.
ubertubered 10 months ago
@ubertubered Well if you did the option to rewrite the renegade Geth, they are now of one mind who wants peace. Which may play a part in them helping you fight the reapers anyway.
Caytel 10 months ago
This makes ME3 seem so epic, I hope this is what it will be like.
ubertubered 10 months ago
This is the reason why I love the Mass Effect and Bioware. They put so much emotion and thought into their games creating a truly emotional story and experience that allows people to place their own choices and . The game has more choices that truly give you a big thought on each life that dies, the consequences, which being greater than the other, and it's just a work of art.
Most games in the market like CoD and Halo are for idiots who like random violence while M.E is enjoyed by the mature.
dodbrian 10 months ago
@dodbrian Oh, so mature people can't like CoD or Halo? I like both, just as much as I love ME. Matter of fact, Halo and ME are tied, while CoD is... less so.
Libertarian001 10 months ago
@Libertarian001
M.E focuses on a different approach, stories, choices, you could actually feel bad for someone dying in the game.
dodbrian 10 months ago
Shepard: "Joker, contact the Academy and let them know we've got someone who needs their help."
Joker: "I'm the fucking pilot, let someone else do it"
Shepard: "Garrus, contact the Academ....."
Garrus: "Can it wait for a bit? I'm in the middle of some calibrations"
Shepard: "Fuck it. David, take him. No one gives a crap"

I usually go full renegade, but I could never bring myself to make the renegade decision for this. There are some lines you should never cross no matter how desperate, and this took a giant leap over that line.

this whole mission was creepy with a touch of sadness

The ending of Overlord is a masterpiece. This misson should not be a DLC 'cos it contains possibly the most touching moment in the entire game which may be missed out by many players. Releasing an expansion pack sounds like a better idea to me.
RobinHooy 10 months ago 57
The worst part of all of this is that if you complete Legion's personal mission the Geth aren't a problem anymore. So even if you went with the Renegade option to try and protect the galaxy you still made a poor choice. That's why Overlord is the best DLC to date. No matter what you do it still hits hard.

@TheReaITooney I think they meant shooting David, as a mercy killing.
Libertarian001 10 months ago
@Libertarian001 No he was talking about archer

I love how both endings let Shepard punch Archer.

This is the only paragon decision I ever made. I could live with killing the council, saving the base...
I just couldnt leave him there.
Jramssy 11 months ago
@LizHathaway01 Lol maybe, but think about it, how much more damage would david receive if you killed his only brother right before his eyes?
saviordd1 11 months ago
I have to say that this was one of the most touching moments in the game, made me tear up a bit
