  • You look very happy. Thats great. Good video:)

  • you are AMAZING!!! Just incredible! I love your confidence :) gosh. I'm in high school and I weight 170, and I am constantly dieting. I lost 21 pounds last year and gained 17 =/ so I hate myself for it...but seeing this video totally inspires me! I want to have that confidence, I've always been looking for it..but don't know where to find it :S

anyway, awesome videooo. and you're amazing, never change ;)

  • You're beautiful, ignore the trolls. :)

  • It is basically like a person making a video of themselves driving a Hummer around town, saying they don't give a damn, and then being surprised by the environmentalists that criticize them.

  • @canonvox Thank you, that's what I was thinking. Being proud of being fat is, at root, being proud of overconsumption. Sure, sometimes people can't help it. People can't always help driving SUVs, either - maybe they're farmers or whatever. But being proud of consuming more than you need is pretty damn weak.

  • to each there own.

I'm proud of myself exactly as i am. ever stop to think about obsessive dieters, or those who diet in general. they consume just as much as me, except their consumption lies in equipment, specialized foods, chemicals, pills and gym memberships. at the root of it all, they are striving for over-consumption [not only of specific materials, but also warped ideologies thrust upon them without their consent] and for the most part, it will ever make them truly happy.

  • Surely you're pushing a bit of a false dichotomy between being fat or being an obsessive dieter and fitness fanatic. There's a whole spectrum, and it's perfectly possible to be healthy without going to gym all the time and taking Branched Chain Amino Acids (whatever the hell those are). You don't even need to go to the gym at all. I've seen kids who live in dusty townships on the edge of poverty, and they play soccer every day with an old ball and tattered sneakers.

  • Hospital expenses are often paid by Medicare (funded by ALL taxpayers).

Fuel costs are weight dependent and most obese people do not buy two airline tickets.

I can go on and on.

It's fine that you choose to be fat. But it is unfair to expect others to applaud your choice, given that we all pay for it.

  • as a point,i dont have medicare, so as far as im concerned no ones is paying anything for my fat. and as a taxpayer,i dont mind it going to FAT ppl, just like im sure tons of money is fueled out for plenty of ppl who could also AVOID health problems but CHOOSE not too.

where along the lines do you get that im expecting anyone to applaud me?

and as u stated earlier, its a bit like smoking.i dont applaud smokers, but i respect thier choices because they're adults and i dont publicily bash them.

  • I just re-read the article. It does NOT say that most of the financial costs of obesity are paid by the individuals themselves. (Unless you are basing your assumption on the occasional person who buys two tickets on the airplane).

  • "It's time to shut up about "the cost of obesity."

Read that. They don't cost more: They cost less.

  • That's of course if you concede they experience chronic illnesses more often. So either way: Your point isn't helped.

  • Read what? Who are they?

  • It's an article. When the actual clinical estimations of obese people affecting what we pay was calculated, the net was lower, NOT higher.

And the study you used is by economists making estimations, rather than actually taking the time to learn statistics. Smokers cost us less money too, because surprise: They die quicker.

  • OK, so you are saying that fat people have shorter life-spans, therefore the net effect is one of cost savings to society. This is a good point. Is there something that I am missing in regards to the other societal cost of obesity (energy, food shortages, global warming, etc)?

  • im going to agree with dreamjournal. if u read the article, most of the "cost" of obesity is paid by the obese people themselves; lower wages, more hospital expenses, less working days, airfaire.

the hospitals expence is ONE time, and the atricle doesnt provide any information about how much money firms loose for absentee employees who ARENT obese

  • Newsweek Aug, 15, 2008

Just google: Five Financial Costs of American Obesity

It will be the first result. Let me know what you think,

    Cheers,

    Canon

PS. I appreciate you taking the time.

  • Hey buddy, try re-reading your own article. The vast majority of the costs referred to in that article are costs paid by the obese individuals themselves. And then it goes on to say the medical conditions the obese are more susceptible to. It doesn't mention the ones that skinny people are more likely to get, and there certainly are some.

Oh, and try googling: Obesity Paradox

  • The majority of Americans are fat. Why do you need to make a video? If anything, skinny people should be upset. They pay for the increased public health burden.

  • You're absolutely right, Poor skinny people. They have it so hard. I can't imagine how rough it must be to never have to deal with nationally-sanctioned discrimination or to get paid more for doing equal work. Poor, poor skinny people.

  • hahah great response

  • Fat people burden society disproportionately.

Increased public health costs, more sick days at work, more fuel costs, etc.

You choose to be fat. Fine. . . but it's a bit presumptuous to then expect everyone else to respect your fatness, given the costs that we all pay.

    It's a bit like smoking.

  • Show me your sources. Then, maybe I'll consider your response. Though, I sort of doubt your response is based on unbiased statistical fact.
