  • Cheap trick are one of the best live bands i have ever seen.

  • I talked Cheap trick into playing this song in 1978

  • Who the hell is the other drummer? Whats up with that?

  • Cheap Trick is a fab band no matter how or when....... and you can't ever take away the fab five influence evident in nearly all material they produced regardless of the writer which yes Rick did most but don't short Robin on his contributions.....

  • I want Rick's Beatles guitar.

  • rick nielsen will go down as one of the gods of guitar. rock until you die rick. rock until the day you die.

  • I`m digging the beatles guitar in this video.

  • @singinginachurch

Is the guy with da fag pants Nielson?

  • The Trick Is THE BEST EVER!!!

  • love the band...love the song....worse guitar solo ever heard...

  • i have to say this is one of the very few times i heard a Beatles song done well. Cheat Trick kicks ass!

  • I would kill for that beatles guitar

  • this is one of my favorite live bands

  • Mystery solved -- spoke to the man himself and Bun E reports the following:

"Robert Carone of Upstaging and George Sleikos our lightman are the "drum choir" on that show. .."

Upstaging is a Chicago-area firm that does provides staging, trucking, lighting and production for the biggest names in the biz...

    Your welcome --

PS: Cheap Trick ROCKS....always have, always will.

  • @kallodi - I had a cousin, drive for US,out of Elk Grove! Had a lot of good times, as a guest! Cheap Trick Rules!!!

  • The Punk version.

  • *hard*

  • the first hrad song ever by the beatles, the fab created everything in music.

  • kick-ass version!

  • A great band in their own right! But of all the bands ever that were ever influenced by The Beatles they walked the fine line between tribute and creating a great sound of their own.

Cheap Trick is of the best pop/rocks in bands RnR history.

  • sorry ct but acdc won

  • why are there two drummers?

  • except for the solo, it was a very good cover!

I liked what they did with the riff

    awesome!!!

  • Sexy chick at 2.13! Don't get girls like that anymore!

  • Bun is the coolest. Very identifyable sound and style. Named my Cat after him.

  • Kc7fys has it right - the 10" vinyl is where I first heard their version of the song all those years ago and WOW - I think I went deaf on this one too - definetly the best version I've heard (to date) after the Beatles.

  • I love it.....

WOW!! Look at the guitar !!!

  • I have the "Found All The Parts" 10" vinyl that had this and three other tunes. It really got heavy play on the headphones when I was about 18. I think I lost a lot of hearing cranking this particular one up. Rick should have taken the jacket off BEFORE starting the song, ha ha... we wastes several measures ripping it off!

  • Trippin my ass off as I type. Parinoid as fuk. Just not quite the same. Havin fun thogh.

  • Awesome.

  • Wow. Wtf. I like CT but this performance is garbage.

The band is all over the place though most of the song.

Next time try a little rehersal.

  • @RaibDarkin You know nothing about Cheap Trick's performance style. This is what they do, and they do it well. This pounding version is amazing.

  • pete comeda on bass the guy rocks

  • I like the Whitesnake cover better; it seems more original. This one is far from bad though.

  • Saw these guys back in 1978 or 79 in a gymnasium ( hammond In ) and it was nothing but fun

so dont get too worked up over their cover

Long live the Beatles and all those who honor them

  • I think this version is very cool different and very rocking. Cheap Trick re-did a few Beatles songs that the Beatles loved the arrangements. Rick Nielsen along with Robin Zander are two of the most memorable muscians from America of our time. They will definetly go down if rock history as being the best.

  • ahh the 80's good times

  • No, no way! Get out of here!

  • Why the 2 drummers???? Who was the other guy accompanying Bun E?????

  • @ProbertFire It's probably a friend of the band/ friend of Bun E.

  • Lennon liked this version?

  • I like Cheap Trick but this version SUCKS, it sounds like nothing but a noise and it's played way too fast!!

  • It looks kinda funny to rock out with zero hair

  • LOLOLOLOL

    zero hair

    LMAO

  • 1:13 Zander crying for Lennono's death!

  • 1:40. We love Beatles, Mr. Nielsen!

  • kanin, i just suppose you don't know what you're saying, mate. If you listen to the Beatles' records you can tell they play their instruments and sing wonderfully. Because, you know, it's them playing those classics. They sound just great. I don't know why do i have to say this. Bloody ignorancy...

  • mais uma banda que nunca passa de moda!!sem qualquer duvida que os anos 60,70,e 80 foram maravilhosos, vivam os stones, queen, beatles, hendrix e companhia!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • The solo sounds a lot like Happenings Ten Years Time Ago by the Yardbirds...it cold just be me though :/

  • I beg to differ sir, Rick Nielsen wrote most of Cheap Tricks material and sounds great on the Cheap Trick Albums.

Don't pass judgement on a musician based upon one live performance.

  • Lennon heard and loved CT's version of Tripper-Rick Nielson was playing in the studio with Lennon on Lennon's last lp (till TOKO kicked Nielson out)

  • really?cool!

  • I believe the actual title was called Hey Slippers

  • WTF was that supposed to be. it sure wasnt a guitar solo thats for damn sure!!!

  • @olowansdad i agree it didn't even really go with the song at all

  • The Beatles are the greatest band ever...quite obviously I might add. Cheap Trick rocks and they honor the Beatles year after year and the Hollywood bowl, etc..This cover totally rocks and they stay true to the way the Fab Four wrote it...awesome

  • @kanin07

Its amazing that you can write this while your whole right hand is up in your ass. Must have taken you an hour to peck at each letter on the keyboard.

    I salute you !

  • waw that solo was shit beatles 1 these guys 0

  • that outro is awesome!!!! :D

  • Comment removed

  • verry good

  • From 2:46 for about 20 seconds on. Holy Kurt Cobain!

  • Awesome.....Rick is really a GOD! !

  • when they started singing i nearly shit myself! XD

  • wtf is your problem

  • 0:30- poor doggy :)

  • Holy gamoly! They've turned it into a punk rock riff!God bless cheap trick!!

  • What's with the three drummers?

  • Oh my God...that guitar,also good cover

  • A rockin, clean version!!

  • wow they nailed it here, awesome version to this song!!

  • BEST guitar ever! and i love his pants too :D

  • Rick Nielson is a God!

  • lovin the pants =)

  • I've never seen Bun E. play a double bass drum kit before. What year was this and who are the other people on stage?

  • No no and no!!!

    not classy at all

    Beatles dont touch

  • i think itsw more a tribute to hendrix's version. sounds that way anyway

  • not bad

  • i was trying to hit rick

  • sorry I thew the bunny

  • 0:29 who threw a bunney on stage?

  • it was michael franks from illonois he has since passed on to the other side he was crushed by a falling piano whilst holidaying in venice 2 years ago.....hope this is of help lol

  • RIP michael RIP........so very sad

  • this is an insult to the Beatles

  • I totally agree with you

  • Same

  • As John Lennon himself hired Rick & Bun E. in 1980, I believe you are wrong. Btw, they started playing this cover in 1979. I myself first heard it on September 1st '79 in Nuremberg, Germany, where they performed at a big festival.

  • Right around this time they got a new bassist- Pete Comita (I thnk that's how it's spelled...) from Chicago band D'Thumbs. I think that's him in this video. They played a series of "undercover" shows to break him in. One of them was at a place called Haymakers in Wheeling, Illnois under the pseudonym "The Randymen". I was there. They did 2 sets and just ripped up the place. The final encore was "Highway To Hell"- yes, the AC/DC song. Pretty frickin' cool.

  • i want the beatles guitar so badly O_O

  • need his beatle guitar. now.

  • i like the beatles way better.

  • the best of punk rock and the Beatles- this version of DayTripper. Can you say fock off mate!!!!!??????

  • Wow! Awesome clip! And I gotta disagree with the comments about them butchering this song. on the contrary, I thought they really rocked that biotch! A couple of things of curious note: Bun E. Carlos behind a DOUBLE bass kit, and the inclusion of two other drummers on smaller indentical kits? Can anyone shed any light on the latter.

  • I think Trick's album, 'All Shook Up,' was released at the time this video was shot. Some of thoes songs have a lot of drumming on them, like 'Just Got Back,' and 'Who D'King.' Read 'Just Got Back,' has 36 tracks of drums, on the album.

  • Looks like Borat on the 2nd kit ha ha

  • Rick ROX! And did you know bobo means 'Fool' in Spanish?

  • Cheap Trick - what a great live band..... and yes there are all still alive and kicking ass after all these years.

  • 0:27 Gaarfeild In Right Hand Corner

  • ok, yeah, stop, only beatles.

  • the beatles should only play that song live but most of the beatles are dead but you still shouldnt

  • rob sounds good here

  • The solo sucked.

  • All underrated great musicians.

  • I agree

  • lol ..great song. great outfits ...LMAO

  • Regarding the checkerboard pants....he probably had them removed by a harem of teen nymphettes backstage after the show. Rumor always had it that Rick had a huge pecker.

  • i spotted, "04578", she's far left with arms folded @ 0:41

  • keep fantasizing about those pants; you'll eventually cum to your senses.

  • whose the fag? you want the guy to lose his pants.

  • Hey Idiot, that asshole with those pants needs to wear normal pants.

    Got that Moron!!

  • i'm sorry...my comment has a spelling error...it should have read: who's the fag? you want the guy to lose his pants.

get it? you are a fag, douchebag!!

  • win

  • That's Rick Nielsen, you idiot. Sorry, you won't find him in your Hanna Montana collection or the latest Jonas Brothers hit.

  • Why three drummers? I attended a show from this tour. It was the "All Shook Up Tour". If I remember correctly, the two extra drummers were brought out for the first encore. They played "Who D' King" (the album recording has multiple drum parts), and then played "Day Tripper".

  • whats with the extra drummer? Bun E Carlos is a machine. He dosent need a helping hand.

  • there are 2 extra drummers...weird eh?

  • Yea....I was thinking the same thing.I guess they were "guests"-possibly from other bands who played earlier that day.Who knows.Bun E Carlos definitely doesnt need "help" in the BEATS dept.

  • What Bun E. Carlos is not enough? Extra drums mean insult. Or tell me the reason.

  • I think Lennon would have like this version!

  • Pete Comita!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Back in Highschool, I was in a band called Burst (before there actually was a band called Burst), and we did a cover of "Day Tripper", only it was a cover of Cheap Trick's version, not The Beatles' version, which I find kind of comical. This was back when music was music, back when Rock 'n Roll was kick ass and awesome.

  • since when did Cheap Trick have two drummers?

  • they probably did it for stereo recording. Frank zappa did the same thing alot, so did james brown--having two drummers on stage

  • Ha ha... Zappa never had two drummers. He had percussionists, but he had a single drummer. The Dead and other stinky hippie bands do this. It's a lush sound--Allmans did it. Stereo? No.

  • Thought I'd note that Adam Ant also would have two drummers in a live show.

  • There are actually 3 drummers playing. Bun E. Carlos is in the center on the drum riser. The other 2 guys on either side probably just won some local radio contest.

  • wow amazing! i always noticed that they had a lot of influences from the beatles..

  • I think Robin Zander just became one of my favorite singers.

  • i had this tune on a cheap trick nu disk back around 1979 it was a much better version than this but still cool though

  • dude did anyone see that stuffed animal that was threw onstage at the begginging. i so want it.ha.

  • Cool!

  • bullshit

  • ricks pants are so wrong :P

  • sure theyre sexy lol

  • WOW! All props to Tom but Pete Comita kicks ass on this!

  • oh, yeah...don't forget the bowtie!!

  • rick nielsen rules!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i'll be on my way to get me some checkered pants as soon as i finish typing

  • Ladies and gentlemen; Pete Comita on bass....and then he fell off the face of the planet...pity!!

  • Uh- that's Tom on bass.

  • Yeah you're right, it's Tom Comita on bass , I thought it was Pete Petersson...

  • its tom petersson

  • No actually, empanadilla was right the first time, it is Pete Comita. My bad :^( they do look a bit alike.

  • Pretty sure I was at this concert with a guy named Jim Sawyer. I think they played two nights at Chicagofest. We waited in line for ever for this general admission show. I've seen Cheap Trick 7 or 8 times since 1981 and they are really one of my favorites.

  • Too bad Rick's St Vitus laden antics get in the way of his otherwise brilliant guitar abilities!!

  • The antics add to the show but not everyone gets it.

  • Rick Nielson doesn't just look like a clown... he IS a clown! and he was actually kinda tame here...

  • Rick is THE clown prince of Rock'N'Roll.....

    Cheap Trick

    Cheap Trick

  • It's 1981. everyone looked like a 17 year old clown back then

  • perhaps a little known fact: When Rick Neilsen was admiring Lennon's sky blue Telecaster-Lennon simply gave it to him! Bet he still has it today! Neilsen has always bought and sold vintage guitars throughout his career, but you know that one is staying with him til he dies. He'll probably request that he be buried with him. I know i would!

  • Rick sold Paul Mack his left handed 59 Les Paul

  • from what i remember, Les Paul had one specially built lefty for him back in 90-91 and that's where he got one. I still have the article somewhere. I don't think anyone would sell an actual '59 Les Paul as it is the most valuable guitar on the planet right now.

  • Paul McCartney has had his since at least 91...he used it on his 91 tour. I don't know what he paid, it was before the 59 LP prices got stupid...but it is Paul, who is a billionaire who once sent his bass to Mandolin Brothers in NY via the Concorde for a set up, so I don't think the price would throw him.

  • it's not so much the price tag i'm contesting- it's just i remember Les Paul making one especially for him so therefore i don't think he had to buy one. Not sure if the 59 models were made in any lefty formats. Maybe he can sell it to pay off that bitch ex-wife of his! personally i'd use it to beat her with. or maybe she can use it instead of her prosthetic leg to walk around with. And the soulless twat probably would too just to piss off us musicians even further.

  • AWSOME! I've heard this amazing cover only once. The level of energy in this rendition is spectacular. Zander nails his friend John Lennon's intense vocals. Thank you!

  • omg! the guitar player!! did u seeee his guitar!!!???? it had paul, george, john, and ringo!!!! I LOVE HIS GUITAR!!!!

  • because they can

  • far out
