This brings back memories. I discovered this album on my dad's cassettes when I was 13 back in '97. I'm 27 and this song, band, and album still sound every bit as fresh and brilliant as they did when I first discovered them. This is still my favorite album and I've got 'em all!!!
@popinton:Find Kansas' first two albums and get to know them. Their first is still my favorite, possibly because I saw them perform it on two occasions in Kansas before they made it big. Nothing compares to the unrelenting energy of youth.
This song has such a great message if you listen to this whole album it has the same theme what great music Love is what you find --We've got to care--Life is meant to share---Helping people on the way ---hope we finally get this message
I've always had an emotional connection with this song. After I had to put my dog to sleep, this was the first song I heard when I got home from the ordeal. I have never believed in an afterlife, so naturally I was overcome with the realization that she was honestly gone forever and I have never felt so emotionally crushed... I guess everyone interprets the song differently, but since February 12, 2009, 4:00 and on has always struck a special chord with me and always reminded me of her
Awosome song. Kansas is my fav group. The rock critics have always hated them, so screw the critics. They have to be one of the top prog groups ever. Also 4:56
When I was a young and often confused and lost teenager, the words and music of this song changed my heart from one filled with violence to one filled with love; and it, combined with the greatness of Incomudro: Hymn to the Atman, changed a life of misery into one that contained its share of gladness and joy; thank you Steve, Kerry, Robbie; thank you Kansas.

This was the 1st Kansas album I heard back in about 1975. I was hooked after this! What an awesome song, album, and band!!! This is may favorite of ALL of their albums though.
Its a shame people only think of Dust in the wind and Carry on wayward son when the group Kansas is mentioned. Their best work are the unknown tracks from albums like Masque and Monolith as well as Leftoverture and Point of know return.
What about the early 1975 album Song for America, on which the title track, "Lamplight Symphony" and the epic closer "Incomudro (Hymn to the Atman)" are fan favorites?
@popinton Right On-Then let's spread the word-Class-1st Assignment-Kansas 4th Album-Left Overture- Listen to Magnum Opus-it's the last song on the album/cd-it has a magical feeling to it, like you're listening to the music of a Great Movie.
I dare anyone who has any appreciation for music not to get goose bumps when Steve Walsh and Robby Steinhardt opened their mouths between 1974 and 1979.. One through Monolith will stand the test of time as the greatest American Prog ever recorded...
Kansas is an underrated band in general, and they're my personal favorite. This is probably not necessary for me to say, but everything about them is just superlative. Lyrics, instruments, vocals... everything. I'm seeing them live in April, and it's going to be awesome. (:
I do believe Masque is my favorite Kansas LP, maybe not their best, but still my favorite. Brings tears to my eyes knowing there are so many Kansas fans out there. I always thought I was the only one. Kansas fans unite.
the first time I heard kansas was on don kershners rock concert in 1976. I was and have been hooked on Kansas ever since. I had to get every one of their albums. My favorite band to date by far. walsh, steinhart & livgren are outstanding artists.
I'm 53 years old and I grew up on Kansas. I'm now learning to play the keyboards. I know I'll never be as good as their keyboard player but I'm inspired. The music today just doesn't turn me on.
This is the proof right here: When Steve tries for a prog style of lyrics, even in his younger days, he is right up there with Kerry on terms of poetic genius.
God, just imagine if 1981 never happened for them...
Ah you have excellent taste in music. You picked a winner here. Love this entire song...especially from 4:00 to the end. And I have to agree too....(old school) Kansas are the best.
An incredible work. I've had a YES tribute band that performed virtually ALL of the material from the 'Classic Line-up', and I thought THAT was an accomplishment! Imagine getting some guys together to perform stuff like THIS live - what a project. If I only had a violinist...
Hardly. But I probably learned more while playing in that band than anything else. As for videos the bass player actually has some pretty good video footage along with some stills that his wife took that we are in the process of collecting for a commemorative website.
2:55 so begins the greatest guitar riff in history.

You are so wrong!!
I'm a fan since '75 and I have some friends now believe me!
BTW I am a Hungarian living in the UK recently. In the 70's I felt the same: I'm alone. It is so good to know it's not true. Wish I wouldn't be 50.
