I had the chance to listen very closely to this performance and I can tell you that she really was singing live as her chest vocals parts were not identical at all with the studio recording. What gives us all the impression that there are some lypsync in here is the breathy vocals that she "overused" at that time And also the whole band was playing live ... I can't see a prerecorded vocal being used to a full live performing instrumental.

twilightluver919 was treated like crap earlier when she pointed out that this is a DEF LEPPARD song. It on is on their High 'n' Dry album released in 1981 on the Phonogram label. The band actually stated in an interview that they thought Mariah Carey did a good job with what they termed as "vocal gymnastics". Her version is good, but like heartnmouth said, it lacks the energy of the original version. Whichever version you prefer, you have to admit that Def Leppard wrote a kickass song.

@headbanger92, she's not a rock star so she can't sing like def leppard did, but it doesn't mean this is bad. i liked def leppard and heard some of their songs but didn't know this one. i first heard this from mariah and i thought it was very good. then i heard it from def leppard but my feelings towards it totally changed...a song is just a song, different ways to deliver it can arouse different feelings in ppls.
