In retrospect, the Jets were clearly the better team in SBIII. They were quicker and more sophisticated on defense, had more reliable deep threats and had plaid more competitive teams throughout the season. The only other NFL team that could have played against the Colts in 1968 was Dallas. Cleveland knocked them out in the first week of the playoffs, allowing the Colts an easy shot to the SB. I remember my dad predicting that Namath would engineer an upset.

While the Colts respected Namath's arm, they had little regard for the Jets' running game or defense. And that's what beat them - the Jets' ground game and defense.

@observer9670 Well, from the standpoint from the talent on each of the rosters, the Colts should have won that game. I honestly believe that if they played 10 times that the Colts would have won at least eight of them.

@MIKECNW If the rule was "first to 20 wins," you'd have a point. But the Jets' defense was outstanding while, on that one day, the usually solid Earl Morrall was pathetic.
