By some scholars our present day calendar is 7 years behind the actual one. Which means we are really in the year 2016, and way past 2012. Nothing happened, the end of the world and major cataclysm have been predicted since the beginning of time, but we are still here trying to figure it out. The outer world is just a reflection of our inner turmoil, the only real change happens when we change ourselves!

You're not understanding how the Mayan calendar works. Thousands of years ago, the mayans didn't say "December 21st 2012"... They didn't use months and days like we did. Their calendar goes by the cycles of our solar system, and therefore has been perfect still up to this day. Our present day calendar is a horrible way to keep time. The stars and planets are a much more accurate way of maintaining time.

Late December 2012 is roughly the time indicated by the Mayan calendar of an end of a cycle. This is similar to the end of an Age, Aeon, etc. mentioned in may Gnostic books, astroligy, and religions.

There is a astrological alignment, a close passing of a huge metor about the same time, and a flip of the magnetic poles. All of which have been scientifically verified.

Many people believe this is the end of the world though.. LOL -- Who Knows.
