  • I'm really excited to play this in my school band. Flutes all the way :)

  • There are two other songs here besides 17 Come Sunday. The march is Dives and Lazarus. What the peaceful sounding one is I don't remember.

  • i played this yesterday, it was so fun

  • I really feel bad for the flutes xD I am a trumpet

  • I am now playing the solo clarinet part for this. We got it two days ago. IT SCARES ME and I am a pretty sick clarinetist...as in principal clarinet...This is WORLDS different from the 2nd suite by Holst, which is what I was expecting it to be like

  • Gorgeously played in my opinion

  • English Folk Song Suite remember the competition?

  • Man, I hope our band plays this again because only one of the classes played this but I have to wait a year to be there because I'm a freshman.

  • That is an epic bass trombone at 2:00

  • i love this piece! I'm playing Eb clarinet with my high school band, i love the part for this song! it'll always be one of my favorites :D

  • Playing this is my band, hard song. Play clarinet 2.

  • Wow, I can hear the woodwinds. Lol, used to playing Euphonium in the back :P

  • Tenor sax part is the best ever in this one.

  • Great sound, but your tempo isn't even in the first part

  • Hehe, that 6/8 woodwind part is nasty!

  • I miss playing this song in high school :(

I miss band in general D:

    brass ftw

  • Only 1 second out of the whole piece with the sole French horn player in view - poor show video operator! Cracking job by the band, though...

  • Killed them 6/8 xD

  • My band is playing this for the spring pops concert. I love the 6/8 part, but our director is doing it kinda weird. First time is no woodwinds so we only hear the low brass. Than the WWs come in the second time. The only woodwind I ever hear in my group is our single piccolo who plays a little too loud (it makes the others mess up; she almost made our director go deaf!)

  • Aledo beat us at the thing. We got runner up. We deserved grand champion -_- -byrd middle school

  • Yargh matey! There be pirates here!

  • i am playing this song at aledo middle school in aledo tx and we sound pretty good on it but we play at 116

  • The woodwinds are have some trouble keeping up with the baton and the breas, but other than that great!

  • Our band plays it slower, i think it sounds a bit better. Still, pretty skilled band to play it so well!

  • these guys play this piece so welll!!!!! we are playing this for festival this year also and i love the baritone clarinet part!!!! so pretty

  • this is an absolutely wicked piece of music!~ we're playing this song for festival this year, and i can only hope we'll be half as good as you guys!!!!!! :D

  • We're playing this in band this semester. It's coming along pretty well, but we have a LOT yet to work on.

  • I LOVE THIS SONG!!!

  • @Mazer2721

Agreed. I played this song in Middle School, 7th Grade, also 1st clarinet! I can just remember the blue lips I had afterwards.

  • Great playing of a great piece of music by one of Britian's greatest composers.

  • While we rehearsed this, I would always use my timpani mallets as a makeshift oar for a viking longboat once the low brass takes over.

  • Wow! Very fine. Excellent!

  • The Dives and Lazarus section is hell on 1st clarinet.

  • @Mazer2721 And first flute! I could practically feel myself getting arthritis playing this song in my high school band!

  • @Mazer2721 agreed

  • With alternative terms I would say : the 6/8 part kicks some major ass.

  • Why do you keep focusing into Clarinet 3?

  • awesome job :D could use a bigger bass drum tho ;D

  • trumpet solo > clarinet solo

idk why they gave it to a woodwind : /

  • BARI SAX

  • Playing piccolo for this song. HOLY CRAP. It's a good song but so incredibly hard it's not even funny.

  • im in eighth grade and im playing this with an ensemble thing. I play the flute and its SO HARD.

    ...

im a dude btw and play the flute o.O

  • Fine young ensemble.. Lively tempo, too. Impressive low brass. I didn't happen to catch their name anywhere.

  • My high school played this song during our winter concert for wind ensemble.. And the solo at 0:42 was played by a trumpet. :)

Btw nice job it was good!

  • @HollisterGuy2000

Look at how many trombones there are, the concert band I'm in only has four and we have to watch to make sure we don't overpower.

  • im a 7th grader playing this in the eigth grade band and we r taking it to pagent of the bands and ure right the solos sound better on trumpet i would no cuz i play the!!! our band teacher says we r probably the best 8th grade band in new york his name is mr. burch and he is AWSOME!!!! i also like the part around 210 where u here the trumpet go d g g g d g its fun to play

  • the two solo's at 0:42 and 2:16 sound sooooo good on trumpet i dont know why all the recordings i've heard have it as clarinet.

  • lol played this in 7th grade and we rocked it! straight ones bbyx)

  • They forgot to play pianissimo for parts of it... I just hear mezzo forte. Still a good interpretation but, could've been better.

  • I think the conductor took this a little too fast. Though there are some very musical moments in this rendition, I just think it doesnt fit the style of a British march.

  • we are playing this for hs band

  • Same lol, we preformed it for Music Fest Canada!! LMAO

  • Played this and I have to say it's fun and the best song I've ever played.

  • Brilliant! More please

  • we playin this now!!

    cool

  • I played this for band festival with my school, but does anyone have this in sheet music?? I really would like to play it again... =)

  • @ArgentTwilight what instrument do you play?

  • That's a huge low brass.

  • Go bassons!

  • i didnt see any flutes? whats the deal

  • The low brass part is EPIC.

  • Agreed on so many levels, I would say its more epic than those army songs.

  • Indeed it is. I'm playing this on tuba in my school, I love it.

  • @WweZain I especially love the way the trumpets reply their part with those 3 notes. So pleasing.

  • @WweZain low brass AND saxes... :)

  • @WweZain I think the base drum player is cool

  • flutes are sometimes hard to hear during their 6/8 time.

people are playing just a little bit faster, but it's still good

what i don't like about what most people do in the flutes is that they don't hold it in a 90 degree angle.

  • playing the trumpet solos in this was probably my favorite moment in high school band

  • My God! They went at that taking no prisoners! They must have needed a week off to recover playing at that pace!

    Fair play to them :)

  • I'm playing this song this year in band class....I and the other flutes die at 1:14.

  • Ahhh this song is hot lol,

you should try to sing this song omfg i gotta do it for state choir this year and it's going to be amazing.

Not dissing on band but singing this one is Way harder lol, love the band version tho it's effin amazing

  • they're playing it too fast by a touch

  • The snare 2nd from the right is hot!!

  • @Corollaboi This is overall a pretty attractive band.

  • AHHH I played this my freshmen year for concert band. It was amazing, I miss it soo much. =]

  • same here! lol

  • Wow! You guys sound fantastic! Beautiful clarinet tone on the solo, fabulous, full brass, and great balance!!

  • The conductor is barely moving her arms.

    Great sound.

  • LMAO!! i am playing the suite this yr, my second time in high school career,

there aren't many trombone players, its me an 2 beginners, but i just crave that meaty brass sound at measure 65... 1:10

    i love trombones

  • Yup I agree I play the trombone also, best instrument out there =]=]=]

  • french horn better! =)

  • i learned this in music class

  • I LOVED this song!!

    I still have it..

    :D

Made me happy to played it correctly

  • Why about the singing?

  • my band of 28 players did this and we did it slower....you guys sound so much better! And considering im the oboe player i would know XDDD

  • Marches are generally played 1/4 = 112-120. Army Regiments may differ slightly in their pace.

  • Light infantry 160 paces, Durham Light Infantry 180 i.e.running.

  • i love that 6/8 part lorl

  • holy damn that was awesome :D

  • Kool. We played this a few months ago in my middle school for Wind Ensemble. My schools Walter Reed Middle School. I think we played well bu you guys did amazing. Great Job!

  • My community band did an all English Concert back in March and this was one of the highlights of our program!

  • The Snare looks like he is having fun which is always great to see.

  • fantastic. The bass drum has an awesome echo to it

  • More Tuba!! We need to hear the Tuba!!!

  • Hear the mighty Tuba!!!

  • sounds awesome

  • Very well played, although taken too fast. English marches are taken at a slower tempo than American marches, and there is a whimsy to the folk songs that is lost with speed. But great job!

  • I agree 100%; good, solid performance, but taken WAYY too fast. This is like MM 135 or so! Should be b/t 105-110 MM

  • I know! Slooooooooooooooow down conductor lady! It is not a race.

  • beautiful, great job woodwinds!!!

this is my favorite part of the suite [:

  • fantastic
