Atheists always get misrepresented. I've watched countless debates on religion and atheists always say 'not being sure of certain things doesn't cause them to believe in Father Xmas cos it feels better'
way to sit on the fence and try not to decide on anything. I agree that we can't say that there is no "something" better than humans. But not divine, not religion, all that shit is just made up.
Robert Wright has a great sense of self-mockery that was missed due to the serious atmosphere. Of course his purpose-argument is confused, but otherwise he has very sensible things to say.
I think this guy had something important to say....at least, maybe he did, like, if you wanted to feel that way it would be okay and all. But then again I suppose he could have also had nothing to say too. I'm sorta in the middle of the road on that, so you could be with me... or maybe not too, I'd understand both ways I guess. Maybe I'll just go sit back in my chair and be lonely....
Had to stop part way through. Sorry. One of the foundations of his belief system is that since we don't understand EVERYTHING, we must be designed that way. I can't follow him down that path.
yea I think his ideas aren't bad, it's his rhetoric and his lack of charisma, but I've read his books he really has an interesting case. Not that you can tell by this video
Difficult to be on a team when you're not on the side of conflict. I sure would have liked to see Karen Armstrong participating in this debate on the "third way" side.
he is also an Atheist whom won't accept the label, because he assumes that belief and knowladge are exclusive questions.
An Atheist who is rational, is an agnostic by default, the same is true for those who are more attracted by the agnostic label, however, they are not taut with each other, Lacking knowledge, means I like belief, but thats only because I am fully rational.
Um, I don't know if religion is good, and um, there may or may not be a god, and um, um, um, we should probably be moral, um, but maybe not, see, I don't necessarily believe that for sure, but, um maybe, there um, um....
What have we learnt from this speech? Well, if you sit on the fence, you get pelted with rotten tomatoes!

This guy is cool. You can feel how awkward it it is on stage near the end when he starts calling out dudes on both sides.

Well done Robert Wright, you've successfully showed in your first segment that no one likes or agrees with your viewpoint. Genius.

Ugh... I'll have to try and forget that I just agreed with something said on Fox News...
