Doug Aldrich is a far better player but Viv is better than I remember. He still has the same issues with his playing now that he had then...mainly a lack of sync b/w his picking hand and fretboard hand.
The thing I do give VIv is power, he really digs in which gives his playing a good grunt.
The lack of sync is within your ears. Vivian played rhythmic leads back then, this lead is rhythmically and melodically sound. This being one of the all time great live leads, many people I hope would laugh at your asinine observation. You may like so and so better, but you picked the wrong lead to criticize.
Your cover as any kind of metal guitar expert is blown.
Specifically which part are you talking about? If you'd like to share credentials, with proof, let me know.
Sorry dude, Viv's picking hand and fretboard hand don't synch as well as many of his brethren...this is a perfect example as is the Mob rules lead from this same show. He is prone to slurred playing. I'm not talking about rhythmical or melodic note choices, I am talking chops. If you want to address what I said cool but don't argue things I didn't say. I also never claimed expertise in anything
He is a great player but he does have some glaring holes in his technique.
Came across harsh. Did you ever watch Amadeus? Mozart finishes up one of his best opera's and the upon asking for the kings opinion, is told there were "too many notes" in normal kingly arrogance.
I value the opinion of a musician who barely reads and writes but has given talents before a scholar who believes those credentials makes him the expert critique.
Criticizing Viv's greatest moments on film to promote "your guy" smells of this kind of arrogance.
this concert is awesome, vivian was dio's best guitarist, i loved the first 3 albums, this is a killer solo, and love the dive bomb vivian does here, i remember getting this concert, ozzy bark at the moon tour, iron maiden behind the iron curtain, krokus live, all were classics,
@groundhog713 hey man, Viv is still a kick ass gtr player and leppard is a kick ass rock band....no they arent "metal" is defined by Dio, but they still rock. Doug aldrich played with dio and now he is with whitesnake and still kicks ass.
@rallyivan1234 I was a big Viv fan all through the 80's and it wasn't till I discovered Gary Moore during his Blues period from 1990 on that I realized where Vivian got ALOT of his stuff from. In his defense he always said that Gary was a huge influence on him! It wasn't till Sacred Heart and forward where he moved to a more legato approach and away from his Gary Moore leanings.
BRAZILIANS THANKS!! VIVIAN CAMPBELL ITS THE MAGIC GUITAR!!!!!!!!
