Wow... she nailed all three parts of the song. Ann's part is the clear winner with its crazed patter, but so adeptly switching personas is fabulous to watch. Julie Andrews being the singer is just the icing on the already-luxuriously-indulgent cake.
@WWEQAF Yeah... my bad, sorry. This is a crazy song, especially on the part of -AMY-, and it's incredible to hear it done its full justice by such a wonderful singer.
It's crazy how she can do all of the parts, Amy, Susan, and Paul. In general I'm not sure how I like that she's singing it all, but I love her performance of it. Does that make sense? She's fabulous.
How do the lyrics of this song fit in with whats happening? Normally the choir bits would be sung by a choir girl and the bit that goes today is for amy... is sung by paul. ?
btw Julie Andrews is the best- she has such good diction!
I saw her do this live at the Manhattan Theater Club and she was at the top of her game. There is a cast recording but to see this piece of footage is remarkable and an incredible surprise. The night I saw it Blake Edwards was in the audience. At intermission, I went up to him and told him that his "SOB" was my second favorite movie of all time.
He asked what my favorite movie was and I told him Camille. So he said you're too young to have Camille as your favorite movie..."heck, you're too young to know anything about me either." So I am nervous as hell since I am talking to my favorite director of all time. So I told him that I admired him very much and went back to my seat.
I had the thrill of working with Blake on the re-cut of Darling Lili in 1992 and he brought Julie to the screening in Cannes! They sat behind and he introduced me to her, quite amazing.
The opening sequence in Darling Lili is so exquisite. One continuous shot of a luminous Julie Andrews singing a Mancini-Mercer classic that is breathtakingly beautiful. Are you still in touch with Blake?
His speech when he received the honorary Oscar was so classy. When he thank his foes..."Couldn't have done it with the foes..." was classic Blake Edwards.
I know that it's Julie and I adore her but I think it was a little much. If she would have had a guy do his part it would probably be perfect.
