  • Samus: Now I have to fight a fucking GHOST?! They don't pay me enough for this shit...

  • Thumbs up for Metroid Other M final boss! :D

  • funny enough he can be defeated without any damage without "luck", just morph into ball and slide from one side to another when he does the wave of attacks

  • @Anemite That only works in the PAL version and it doesn't reduce the amount of luck involved anyway since you can already avoid the waves of flames by charging and spin jumping through them. The luck comes from his near-random appearances with no warning. If he happens to appear at a bad time and location, it's practically impossible to avoid being hit either by him or the flames dropped from the ceiling.

  • @Desbreko actually not, since i play this game when it came out in the snes, im from mexico so is kinda obvious that the cartridge was for america

  • @Anemite If your game has options for German and French text when you load a save file, it's a PAL version. If it has options for English and Japanese, it's NTSC.

  • @Desbreko only jap and english, i play this game on a actual snes, getting EU cartridge was a lot harder before that now, so there was no way i had an european edition

  • @Anemite I'm not sure what's up, then, because it doesn't work on my US NTSC cartridge or in any emulator I've tried with an NTSC ROM. As far as I can tell, the only reason it works is because the PAL version is slowed down to 50 fps instead of the normal 60 fps, which messes with the trajectory of some diagonally-moving objects.

  • i know his death is pixelated on the cartrdige but its more pixelated on the emulator. why?

  • I can never kill this freakin' guy on the first try. Usually takes me a few times. What a huge PAIN!

But I still love this game:-)

  • WTF didn't know you could just charge beam and jump to avoid his flames I always had to jump morph ball to avoid them

  • he spent years prefecting this technique :D

  • Dude, I did this, got literally one shot off killing him, I was devestated!

  • One question. How the heck!?

  • this guy is WAY more awesome in Metroid Other M.

  • Almost 3 minutes fighting this guy must be painful D:

  • When I first got to this boss, I expected him to be crazy hard, but i

beat him after only two tries; which is amazing... =O

  • AWESOME

  • do you mine if i use part of this clip for a video im making i only need phantoon exiting

  • @samushunter242 No, go ahead.

  • NICE

    (i hate this boss)

  • it took me bout 3 times before i killed phantoon

  • mad dodges were used in the making of this film

  • Phantoon is the final boss in other m

  • Ah Phantoon i friggin loved Phantoon......... especially how it enters so diabolical lol

  • yeah I love phantoon but the song of this figth gives me the creeps...:S

  • Your pretty good at this O.O I've only been able to kill this guy with minimum 8 hits :/

  • .......I sit here in AWE. O_O

  • long live to the emulators of video games!xD

  • impressive. Even with the psuedo-screw attack trick, I still take a couple of hits from this guy. XD

  • Out of all the bosses in the game, Phantoon is the one where I got hit the most.

  • Huh. So he DOES have "teeth" around his eye. I thought that was just something thrown in in Other M. :|

  • well nice done phantoon is not dead in super metroid he returns in metroid other M as final boss but huge more evil

    phantoon mine fav boss 4ever

  • @LoranGirdeuxXFM its not really a final boss its a bonus boss...you will only encounter it if u beat the game 100% on hard mode.....

  • @juventinorocks ya i kwown now but this is the first video i have seen thgat phantoon see

  • @LoranGirdeuxXFM oh ok then..... phantoon looks way more awesomer and scary in other m lol phantoon came along way lol

  • Phantoon only does this in the PAL version of the game. To avoid it you use the morph ball to roll in the opposite direction of the next flame lash.

  • This is NOT Other M's Final Boss.

  • @TheNewCockroach76 Yes it is, it's a great cameo.

  • Wow, Now that takes some real skill right there. o . o I bet my dad could do it :D He's a big Metroid fan~

  • @10Mara91 Your father's a metroid fan?! God, I am so jealous!

  • @Wunterwafffen Lol yep. He's a fan alright! I used to watch him play it all the time though.

  • fuuuuuuuck this boss

  • Viper, no he isn't, he's a secret boss.

  • Phantoon is the final boss of metroid other m

  • on to... oth.. o wait la la la

  • i was so proud of myself i actually killed him on the first try

  • So that's hoo you dodge the flame circle? I thought about trying that but I thought "No, the fakie-screw attack only goes through one attack and I touch multiple fireballs". Wish I'd just tried it anyway

  • Holy sh*t, you have 8 energy tanks at this point O.o?! I'm playing this now and I only have 4 at this point lol D:

I've died 3 times trying to beat him now. Nearly all my health gets drained on the part when he throws down the flames from the middle in a circular motion. But now that I know you can avoid damage by using the charge jump I'll probably be able to beat him.

  • Thanks. I got killed with by Phantoon even thouh I had the same number of energy tanks as you, as well as two reserve tanks.

  • This took skill. Hats off to you friend.

  • Damn Awesome.

  • Question....

How many times have you played this game?

  • Haha, I like how you bombed the alien's eye after defeating it. Twice.

  • it sounds like an elephant... lol i like ur wall jumping at the start

  • why am I still taking damage from the flames when I'm charge jumping?

  • @CoolXer0 Are you sure you're charged up all the way? Make sure Samus starts flashing with the charge before you jump or else it won't work.

  • @Desbreko it was actually my timing being off. I was waiting to long to jump. Thanks for the help man! Its hard to believe we remember this game from when it was actually new.

  • You are awesome man :) I remember going against this boss during the summer hols last year and it being the hardest thing ever :P

  • Wow... I'm impressed. Phantoon is the hardest boss in the game, and you just killed him unscratched. Seriously, I had to ask my friend to get past him for me. 5 stars.

  • Not bad with the no damage against phantoon. There are faster ways to do so, but still, no damage using super missiles to kill him is better than what I use.

  • this is the easiest well for me i dont know why.. draygon pissed me off

  • i hate that boss always hit me i dont know that if you charge the beam he cant touch you... =( but now i know =)..

  • GAH!! How is your game so high quality? I just bought this game for virtual console and it looks nowhere near as pretty. Oh, and that's a damn good run you got there. Phantoon is my favorite boss in the entire series.

  • I recorded directly from an emulator so the video capture was completely lossless. And I used a point resize (aka nearest neighbor) resize filter to get it big enough for YouTube to make a HQ version, which kept the pixels sharp instead of blurring them.

About the only thing you can do to make it look better on the Wii is to use a component video cable, provided your TV has component inputs, and set the Wii to output 480p instead of 480i. The rest depends on your TV.

  • Thanks! I did that and now it looks a lot better. Mine still looks a little fuzzy. Maybe I just need an hd tv.

  • @Railware You can get a component cable for the wii for $5 and free shipping at dealxtreme, that's where I got mine.

  • @Railware In case you or someone else sees this, here's another tip for improving your Wii's image quality besides switching to component & 480p.

Make sure you're in 4:3 mode for 4:3 games!

The Wii renders a squished image if you have 16:9 turned on, and your TV stretches it back out, just like an anamorphic DVD.

This is fine for games designed for it, but games NOT designed for it look like crap! Especially 2D games.

Go to the system settings & set it to 4:3. & have your TV do aspect zoom.

  • @Railware ***SPOILER*** Phantoon is the Final Boss in the Other M

  • @jorisding I know hes bigger than kraid!

  • I agree. Phantoon is one of the hardest bosses to avoid damage from.

  • Victory dance!

  • I hated this boss the most.

  • Comment removed

  • Oh... so THAT'S how you dodge that attack where he goes to the top of the screen and sends out rings of fire... That attack was ticking me off for so long.

  • I hate that boss... but he is kinda weak

  • Phantoon killed me 15 times so sad.

  • @kelvin980530petpet that's sad...but in other games im a loooooooooooooooooser:S

  • @kelvin980530petpet when do you fight phantoon? i dont rmember fighting him.

  • phantoon pissis me of

  • LOL he explodes as soon as the Bomb does

  • OMG I just noticed I have that very same emulator on my Mac! How did you record it?

  • Record an SMV movie with the Movie Record feature and save that. Then pause the emulator and open the SMV with Movie Play. Select Record AVI, choose a video codec and file name, then unpause the emulator to capture video of the gameplay recorded in the SMV.

  • K, thx!

  • But is there a certain route to Crocomire?

  • Oh, there's a couple ways to get to Crocomire. If you watch part 4 of my walkthrough videos you can see the standard route and I also explain the alternate one (which requires getting the Wave Beam early by wall jumping) in the annotations.

Basically, take the first door on the left after going down the Norfair elevator and power bomb the floor blocks after the closing gates. Go down through a few rooms and you'll come to a super missile door in the floor, which opens into Crocomire's room.

  • That must have been a intense battle. I play it on virtual console for Wii and the controls are hard to master. I passed the Etecoon and Dachora parts though. I need to get to Crocomire now but I have a quiestion. Is there a alternative route into Norfair other than the one before you fought Kraid? Comment your answer when you read this please.

  • There's only one way into Norfair and that's the elevator just outside Kraid's lair.

  • I've never played Super Metroid, but that fight must've been next to death for you, what with the no damage. That was too awesome! You've got a subscriber in me!

  • Awesome playing, man. You're a real genius at this game. Thanks for showing how the game was intended to be played! I didn't even know about the invincibility when your shot is completely charged. Out of curiosity, do you rank this game as one of the best of all-time, as I do?

  • It's my second favorite game after Zelda: A Link to the Past.

  • Funny, I just downloaded both of those :) Working my way through Zelda again at the moment, by far my fav. Snes game ever, ^_^ shame they're over so fast though, after like a decade I still remember what I'm supposed to be doing haha. Great vids btw.

  • Can't argue with you there!

  • I didn't discover the pseudo screw in super metroid, I discovered it in metroid fusion and then thought it was in every 2D metroid, by the way awesome video

  • That stuff was tight!

  • hahah, you're method is SICK (awesome =P) but when he usles the flame whip, I find it easier to go morphball in alternating corners to dodge.

  • Alternating corners in the morph ball to dodge the flames only works in the PAL version.

  • hmm, i guess you play the american version then... thats cool, but i first discovered it on the WII shop channel, so I didn't realise they still put them into different versions for regions (save for japan)

  • They still have to do different versions for NTSC and PAL since they're based on TV standards. NTSC TV's run at 60 fps and PAL TV's run at 50 fps, so they have to make the games match that for each region.

  • out of all the bosses in this game, phantoon had to be the hardest.

  • 0:28 and go on

I don't use charge to avoid the shots from him whem he does that attack

I use high jump between the corners =D

i will post a video someday

  • If you time it just right you can avoid the flames by jumping up into the corner, yeah. But unless you don't have the Charge Beam for some reason, I don't know why you'd want to use that method. And if you don't have the Charge Beam you just shouldn't hit Phantoon with super missiles to begin with.

It would be kind of impressive to see someone pull it off every time in the fight, though.

  • dude i f***ing love this game ive beaten it so many times i dont know where everything is but i can beat it pretty fast

  • Awesome. I always have trouble with Phantoon.

  • I like phantoon's trumpeting elephant cry of pain. Such an interesting critter.

  • Weird,when i sommersault to left,Samus executes Screw Attack...

  • Mm.. Well, that could have gone smoother. It is possible to 2 round him very easily, but I think you would have to take damage to do so. I also disapprove of all the super missles that you use on a first attack against him. Meaning, when he appears. It wastes a lot of time and is more dangerous.

  • I wasn't trying for speed, just the best method for no damage.

On the contrary, I find super missiles to be the safest. If you use missiles, Phantoon flies around a bit and can damage you until you land enough hits. And if you crouch with a beam shot charged instead of staying in ball form Phantoon can appear low enough to hit you. Super missiles, on the other hand, both make Phantoon disappear immediately and make the fight take fewer rounds, meaning fewer opportunities to get hit.

  • =o what lvl is this?

  • Level? What do you mean?

  • This really is the best method if you want to avoid damage, Desbreko knows his stuff.

  • As far as "Best" goes, you can define that in more than one way. The "Best" way in according to him is the safest way. As far as I am concerned, the "Best" way is the most effective.

  • This video isn't trying to show the most effective way possible to kill him, it's showing the best possible way to kill him without getting hit.

  • Like I said before, the definition of best is different in this video than my definition.

  • See? Even Desbreko agrees.

  • Exactly, there is no absolute best way to fight Phantoon; it all depends on your goal for the fight. If you're doing a speed run you obviously wouldn't want to use this method. But if you're just trying not to die, this strategy would be the way to go.

  • Thats how I do it anyway...

  • impressive nice

  • Nice use of the Charge Beam Screw Attack!

  • Ah-ha! So it is possible!
