2 years old learning TeoChew

Hoa see teochew nang, and the our most famous line... "ga gee nang"!! There's actually a lot of people that speak it in SF. I could speak it well when I was younger but as I grew older I only use Cantonese and English. I can understand but can't really speak it anymore. I wish there is somewhere Ithat teach our language!

@choijai18 I didn't realize there were Chinese in SF that spoke teochew. My mum is teochew (by way of Singapore) and raised me without the dialect, growing up just outside of SF. Now I live in SF and whenever she comes to visit she practices her Cantonese buying produce in Chinatown. You must tell me where you here / see teochew so I can tell my mum, she would be so excited. The only time she practices is videochatting with family or when we visit SG.

My parents were Chinese raised in Cambodia and we now live in NZ.

So yeah, I can only speak teochew and English :(

Yea alot of the chinese people that were in cambodia were Chiu Chow...it's crazy! I'm located in Long Beach, Ca...Cambodia Town basically...lol! but alot of my friends are chinese-cambodian. I wish i could speak Chiu Chow tho =( i use to when i was little but then idk i literally know only 30-40 words! and it's the little words that i speak to my baby cousin ahha...like "jah-lock" (sit down) etc! haha

the only differences is that I speak it differently.. the only thing that i could understand from this video is "legs" & "mouth" & the rest are a bit different..

She says "Mak, De Oiy" which means translated exactly "Eyes Are Where?" but if you say it correctly translated, it's where are your eyes? And ''De Oiy'' is like ''De Gkaw'' as in where. Do you kind of know why she says that after every word now? . . . hope i helped :)

the teo chew area in China comprises Shantou, Chenghai, Chaoyang, Chaozhou, Jieyang, Puning, Huilai, Raoping.

i'm native shantou ppl and i know all dialects of the cities mentioned above. it sounds to me dat this is Shanwei, Haifeng or Lufeng dialect rather than teo chew~

To reassure some of you who think that teochew dialect is gonna die soon....No !! I'm Teochew and I live in France (currently in Nice) and there is a precise area in Paris, the 13th where Teochew people live and speak the Teochew language all the time, even the sales clerks.

Anyway if some of you are interested in learning this dialect, you can still go to the Teochew province in Canton. ^^

Ha ha! Funny! I dont think there are many TeoChew people out there. The young people of Teochew origin dont speak Teochew anymore. This dialect is going to extinct one day. I hope it wont happen though. I am half Teochew who know just 5% of the dialect but I wish to learn more.

I use "di goh" to refer to a general "where." I use "di ui" when asking for a specific location that I want shown or told to me.
