I think, when u see the lightning you count like, 1 1000, 2 1000. And so on and then when u hear the thunder you divide that number by 4? I'm pretty positive that's it but I may be wrong!!!

Well, In the sound-doppler, if the thing is moving away from you, the soundwaves have less speed, and that is the same with light, that are waves to. The space between the waves is getting bigger, so it turns from blue to red. And the fun thing is, becouse the theory of relativity red can't turn back into blue, becouse noting can go faster than light...
