  • The Fragile is my favourite NIN album. A true masterpiece.

  • Coyolxauhqui est la déesse de la lune, Vénus est la déesse de la beauté, et Amphitrite est la déesse de la mer. Ensemble, ils sont le ciel

  • Four minutes of painful, agonizing struggle represented by the dissonance to get to the most beautiful 30ish seconds Trent Reznor has ever recorded.

This song has long been my all time favorite NIN song.

  • Wow!. Thanks.

  • The untuned (If that's a word) piano sounds amazing in thios context.

  • The sounds are already a little disturbing, but when you discover what was going on when he wrote this, it gives you chills.

  • I really like trent reznors music...

  • @Cjsewall1 Me toooooo <3

  • Wasn't this the background footage projected on the screen during the performance of this song on the Fragility tour?

  • Debussy?

  • the most beautiful song i think i will ever hear

  • this song sounds like it should fade into Into The Void :P

  • @MatthewTheStrogg234 Because its part 1 of into the void :)

  • "The song itself was conceived during a very dark period in Reznor's life. When on stage in 2009 he disclosed that he had rented a house at the time on an ocean with the external intent to write some music, but in reality had contemplated suicide there. This song was the only song to come out of that time and place. He still feels strange playing it live because it serves as a reminder of this dark period in his life."

This information makes the song that much better.

  • @audie1292 yeah it does sound like the kind of song youd be suicidal to

  • Ce video est fantastique! elle rend la chanson encore plus etonnant

  • anyone figure out who made this?

  • its pretty much the perfect video for this song... amazing... let me know if you find out who made it!

  • Trent Reznor is the only person who could ever write an instrumental song worth listening to.

  • Comment removed

  • seriously; Trent Reznor is a genious!

  • good song

  • I have the video playing at 1:06

while windows media is playing it at 0:43

    sounds so awesome

  • thanks. i think i'll try that.

  • my god.

    i love this song.

  • I had never heard this til now, it reminds me alot of the Ghosts albums. Really ambient and melodic, even when it hits the drum line, it feels very natural and flowing.

  • thats music.

  • Indeed.

  • great, simply great

  • Great theme

  • One of Trent's best instrumentals, this and Starfuckers was the reason I bought the Fragile. Only a couple of songs on Ghosts compares to this peice, (I love that album too though).

  • 'a rien pa peut arrete moi '

Nothing can stop me now. A recurring theme on lots of his songs.

I love all this cryptic stuff Trent puts in his music.

  • it's : rien ne peut m'arrêter maintenant.not to be harsh on you or something.i just couldn't help but saying.

  • you are wrong, that is not the way it is lyrically put, you corrected someone with an error, he was right to begin with. Lyrically speaking, that is exactly what Reznor used

  • Agreed.

  • this song has the same baseline from the nin song 'please'?

  • i meant 'into the void' *whoops*

  • I believe so.

  • yes it is into the void, and if u listen the drums in that song use the same timing as piano in this

  • yeah, hell, even in concerts they start out Into The Void with this sometimes.

  • still my fav NIN instrumental

  • best part of this song is the very end, when the piano goes up an octave and then fades out... unbelievable.

trent reznor is a musical genius.

  • i agree.... it would be a shame , it is quite interesting... i think whoever it was did a great job capturing the mood of the song.

  • This is so damn cool. from a videographer's point of view, it is so simple, yet so powerful. I like it very very very much :) I have always wanted to make a vid for this song. Now, I don't know, you nailed it!___I along with many people here rate this as one of my favorite songs. It actually makes me cry. I will stop babbling in a comment area now... Great video/Great song!!!

  • @Nosferata138 its a beautiful tune, and the video its set to seems to make opium a beautiful image

  • et quand le jour arrive. la tourner el ciel. et la tourner la mer. et la mer eh ven embrasse moi. et la deneh ve moi logis. a rien pa peut arrete moi

  • I like this song and all but doesnt anyone else think that the bass in this song at about 1:40 sounds exactally like the guitar in into the void?

  • are you sure?...don't you know what is a concept album?

  • yes i do know what a concept album is (im not a retard) and i understand that this ablum is about taking something that is broken and trying to fix it and or trying keep something from falling apart. but what the hell does that have to do with the two songs having the same bassline? i did google it later after i made that comment though and it said that the two songs are "sister songs" and thats why they have the same bassline. Next time i will google before i comment.

  • ufffffffffffffffffffff

  • sister songs are usually a part of concept albums, dear.

  • Well Ive listened to concept albums before i heard the fragile, but the fragile was the first concept album that I've heard that contained sister songs, so I was a bit new to the whole thing. Now I know.....

  • Its very Fragile like because its off the Fragile.

  • Vidi is cool, music is perfect.

    5*****

  • bob dylan is god

    jack white is jesus

    trent reznor is the antichrist

  • hahah so true

  • t-rez is god, MM is the antichrist :DD

  • one of the greatest songs of our time.

    thanks trent

  • Thank you for the clarification - appreciated! Engage brain before keyboard for me in future! ;-D

  • Needs to get that piano tuned badly. But still great tune.

  • This is from the album The Fragile. The whole concept behind it was to make everything sound like it was falling apart. He even used instruments that were, such as broken violins, and that piano which you felt needed tuning. It was all on purpose.

  • @TragicTantrum it's genius because at the same time so many of the songs have recurring motifs that connect and bring them together, juxtaposing that feeling of disintegration. Alot of the thematic components of La Mer can be heard on Into the Void.

  • k you know what im going out tmr to go buy the album I CANT GET THIS SONG OUT OF MY MIND :) I LAB IT!

  • wooooooooo

that was the best fan made video ever

    very well put together

it deserves an emmy... or an oscar... or something of that nature.

  • brilliant. absolutely brilliant.

  • Trent is god.

  • Wow I never noticed this but at @ 3:13 you can see two faces kissing each other.

  • i c it

  • Yes and at 2:29 there is what looks like a painting of a cloudy scene with a large crucifix, then shortly thereafter a face fills the view. Interesting stuff.

  • If god could be translated to a song this would be it.

  • Get it? The background the camera kept panning across is the album cover! HA! ... WOOoo

  • Fuckin sick! Whoever made this video is a genius! Probably Trent, but as I'm not sure..

  • the lyrics (translated) say

    and when the day arrives

    I'll become the sky

    and I'll become the sea

and the sea will come to kiss me

    for I am going home

    nothing can stop me

[this has to be my favourite nin song x]

  • But, marteler means to hammer, not to become - and it's infinitive. And arrivé is perfect tense... So the first bit would be:

    And the day has arrived

    To hammer the sky

    And to hammer the sea

Also it doesn't say anything about going home, just being out of her cell...

Not criticising you, just interested how this translation got around, as it's a little weird.

I guess it's the whole poetic license thing...

  • la mer is latin for the sea. she calls me out to see. a world forever changed for better, for worse?

  • you may be right, but it's french in this case, as are the rest of the lyrics

  • i never hear any lyrics

  • At 1:17 and at 4:02 there are words spoken by a woman in French. It's very low

  • oh. thanks i guess i just can't here because of the volume level

  • This song/video rocks!

  • nice...

  • La Mer is one of my favorites. My dog is La Mer. Ahaha. I wish the live versionw ould have been on AATCHB :( The live version is fricking AMAZING.

  • Wow!! really really good video!

like the others said thanks for sharing!

  • very nice... it looks like something Trent would release. thanks for sharing

  • this is the first time ive seen this, is it an offical video? love the trrack, gave me tingles down my spine and ive heard it so many times b4 , much lovex

  • This the first time I've heard "La Mer" and have seen the video (9/10/06). Emotional, deep, and extremely moving. Reznor is not only passionate, but he is a very sensitive man. Another experience he shares in the only way he can--with honesty.

  • dang this is like the begining of every rugrats epp. the way its all close and out of focus...lol

  • thnks =P seriously

  • La Mer is one of my favorite songs ever!!!!!!!

  • video goes great with the song... very similar to the fragile artwork and "the wholw world went away" video

  • naturally..anyways seriously thank you for sharing this video it think i wouldve died :(( nah i just love NIN..aaahhh NIN nine inch nails!! goes in a corner and rocks

  • i love Nine Inch nails..and by the way I THINK YOU SUCK ASSHOLE..oh thank you for sharing this video =D
