I wouldn't grab a trout by the tail, in their natural environment (under water) they never exert much pressure on their spine so probably not a good idea to do so if you intend to release.
Can I ask what strength of leader / tippet you tend to use in those rocky shallow sections like around the 6 minute mark? Great video as well. Can't beat NZ. Iceland equals it though imo.

Please! Never lift large fish by the tail or with a gill-grip. Their spines are not designed for it.
