Well, if Mr J. sometimes in this lifetime wants to give out master classes on guitar to keep the legacy around, I´ll hitchhike all the way North. I maybe will take the approach to hang on the guitar even more.

@Welllsworth J has great feel but I don't really consider him that tech a player - don't get me wrong I love Dinosaur - anyways great interview with Thurston - cheers
@JefferySchmitz yeah, your right dude. But just the action of hanging around and watching can bring so much. He´s been playing obsesivly (a good thing) for so long, so he must be like one of the ultimate guitar mysterios. From bands to books to gear. And just hanging around, watching closely, sweeping his basement haha could bring so much...
listening to children of bodom doesn't make you smart. personally i like any form of rock or metal so im not gonna say children of bodom are shit but..... a majority of alternative rock bands and indie rock bands have Sonic Youth as an influence(which era of sonic youth is a different story, most people know them for their late 80s to early 90s alternative stuff or their newer more indie stuff. but lots of people also like their noise rock beginnings) and they're better guitarists than COB
Once you reach the mental age of 12...you appreciate honesty and integrity and intelligence and that increasingly unrecognised quality- a self effacing, gentle sense of humour. Anyone with a mental age above 12 will recognise this in Thurston, and be able to appreciate it.
how does he come across as pretentious at all here? He's just having a conversation. It sounds like the most natural conversing I have ever heard in an interview with a famous person.
Oh come off it. His band Sonic Youth is probably responsible for most of the 'decent' music you're listening to today.
If you think the Yeah, Yeah, Yeahs are 'essence of rock' then look at where they get their shit from ... them and about a ka-jillion other bands since them.
hmm...i could probably figure it out but ive been doing it in an alternate tuning...i went through the whole album riffin it out...you should experiment with some alternate tunings to figure it out then go from there to create some of your own...fun stuff..
of course it's detuned. it's thurston moore. do you see what he plays after the intro and right before he starts to sing? the two lowest strings are a fifth apart. the tuning is one he used a lot on murray street and sonic nurse. CGDGCD
that's awesome. i've also got it worked out quite nicely with the other tuning. you should try it out. what helped me was playing a lot of songs from sonic nurse in years past. when you play lots of songs by the same artists, you can sort of get into their head. really cool stuff
well, you're kinda lucky. at least you leave in USA, i live in Chile and i don't think this is going to reach here. probably i will have to order it by amazon...
Wow! You really get an idea of how accomplished he is when he's playing the acoustic! That sort of gets overshadowed when he's playing with Sonic Youth by the overall presentation of the entire band, if that makes any sense.
Great album, I got it a couple of months back and I listened to it from front to back. Its one of those timeless albums that a few people would know.

Sonic Youth and stuff like this reminds of cloudy days in Minneapolis growing as a teenager in the early 90s. I'm glad they went back to there roots.

Calm down.
Just because Thurston Moore bores me doesn't give you the right to insult me by calling me a Kiss fan !
By the way, check out the Kiss video's I favorited, they're funny.
NAZIPENIS101 2 years ago
Mascis is boring. Moore relishes in telling long drawn out anicdotes about nothing.
I mean what does he actually say in this 6 minutes and 21 seconds? Thats a lot of talking and saying nothing.
NAZIPENIS101 3 years ago
talking about making a record is normally a pretty boring subject.
