I have a 9515 I purchased in 2001 running 1 mmats d300hc a coil (2400 rms +) in the trunk of my 79 malibu and it held up fine at the time. Now it is in a 02 civic si hatchback and am currently building a new box for it.
the surround doesnt necessarily have to be fat for big excursion. The surround on this sub is deep, and the diameter or the spyder and coil, as well as the depth if the motor as well as its magnetic power, all account for the xmax (excursion) factor.
nice to actually have people on youtube know a thing or two before they type.
the newer dd's have a bigger surround with the erom material and the older style dd's have a erom surround as well that can't be matched. many have tried but dd is ahead of the curb.
don't let the physical appearance fool you dd's can handle anything you throw at it.
If i see my sub flexing like that i would shit myself but y do people get the 9515's and only get one when you could get two 3515's the 9515 only have 1200 watts more peak
its suggested rms for the 95 series is 1500 watts. But in actuality its so underrated and can handle so much more daily. Im pushing 2400 watts daily to the sub, and my friend is pushing 3000.
bad ass sub but cause the box is so big in the trunk not enough air can get to the front had same issue in my car i made the box lay flat with the sub pointing up worked better for me
its not really about air movement... think of your trunk cavity as a chamber for your speaker. just like a box in itself. its how the sound waves move. so that box would react differently in how it sounds in cabin in different vehicles.
look at those double D's bounce!

I have been watching your video and i was
wondering does a fat surround on a sub really
makes a difference on how the sub performs?
because your sub does not have a fat surround
and it really moves and it looks like it pounds hard.

yea allows the woofer to move back and forth more, which moves more air, which makes it louder
