The ONLY way to make a Grey Knight army is by magnetizing it, else you'll probably regret it when you realise you wanna change wargear for most of your army =P
@leyniapi Hi - sorry for the delay. I've just got back from Christmas break and was welcomed with 100+ notifications in my mailbox. Found your email. Will reply ASAP!
@nuclealosaur hey i was wondering about what you sold this army on becouse i think i is awesome but i would like to have draigo and more magnet opitions than you had there can you please reply.
Great stuff. I cant tell but do you do the internal glow on the undersides of the armor from the lava? Maybe make it a greenish lava to vary the color? I love em. Jawaballs
@jawaballs Thanks for the idea man! Still have 5 more GK termies of my own that I would like to paint in a different manner (or maybe paint them all differently) This color scheme is getting old so green lava is on the list
@nuclealosaur Painting up to a hot warm green with all the cool blue will add a nice finish to the color scheme. A bit of yellow some place to finish off the color triangle would then be nice. :)
@nuclealosaur I am an art teacher after all! Your primary dark grey color will tie in the three major colors coming from three different sources. maybe give yellow eyes with the glow shining on the surrounding helmet mask. Blue weapons and green lava. The three colors shining upon the neutral grey... Then you are on the verge of taking beautiful models into the Golden Demon relm. :)
@jawaballs You're an art teacher... that explains a lot!. Do you do fine arts too? Or just teach and paint miniatures? My family run an art school too in Thailand and as the eldest son I'm sorta expected to go back and help them with the biz next year (perfect depiction of Asian family-centric collectivism here) but the only art I know is painting miniatures.
@nuclealosaur I stopped doing my own fine art long ago. Though I hold a BFA in Art Studio. I managed to turn my art training into model painting in a few short years. :) Hey, I'm looking for some one who can sculpt minis, like Dreadnought Assault Cannons and such. :) Know any one in your neck of the world?
@jawaballs I know a few sculptors but can't really think of anyone who specifically sculpts stuff for 40k. The first name is Guillermo Centeno (or search Patricia Martinez / GDC dreams art) This guy does a lot of scratch-built models of all types - pretty sure he's up to the task!
They look fantastic, I'm sure the client is pleased. BTW, it looks like you hardline highlight after you spray which gives it a really nice contrast...is that silver or white that you use?
@nuggztheninja Hey man - thanks a lot! I always use white to HL my stuff as strong contrast is what I like. I'm the one with less of an eye for subtlety haha
@testiclease122 !!!! I'm so happy finally someone responded to the music! This one is by Wazari. I downloaded it off Reason Patch forum ages ago... I don't think he makes music anymore. Can't believe this was done using Reason 3 only. Anyway - if you could find a way to download more songs, please message me, because I only have 3 songs and I need more!
@asjarra Thanks man, please do it! I don't mind at all. Please keep us updated how it went. Anyway - are GW going to release plastic sisters? Haven't really been keeping up with the news
I'm no expert on osl and with the light blues and greasy contrastbis always a problem, but the light source looks better if it's much brighter than the reflections, maybe a thin targeted wash to exaggerate the shadows would help. I'v also experimented with washing and then brushing of the wash with isopropyl alcohol, but its inexact and can make a mess if you don't varnish pre wash.
@NstHarlequin Sounds like you might wanna give oil wash a go then! Easily cleaned afterward and can be blended with turp so it doesn't leave an obvious mark where you've cleaned it off. I wanted to go with brighter swords to make them 'shine' but same time wanted 'reversed NMM' look on them to distinct them from my different standard commission where the swords are just basic gradient from blue to white.
@NstHarlequin Glad you liked it. I try my best to incorporate various techniques so my work doesn't look like an 'airbrush' accident (quoting a critique that made me think a lot about how to paint when I just first got into this style) - how would you go about solving the contrast problem?
@TheCelsork That's very flattering, man. Let's get better, and don't forget to have fun painting! The fun element is probably the most important part in this, as it keeps you inspired.
@MJGKinahan I would say 80 percent of the model is airbrushed. This really depends on the model though, but most of my recent stuff are mainly airbrushed. I really need to work on my brush skills too, because now I'm teaching my sister how to paint through a vid tutorial, and I really dread doing base coating with a brush! It takes so long
@ObsidianPainting Thanks man - heck yeah the do haha! It's like the same GK commission in a parallell universe man. Would be so funny if our clients for some reason crash into each other in a tournament and they'll be like... WHAT! THE!
@perochialjoe To be honest, I don't think so. Principally yes, probably. but the swords and some bits might get in the way of your brush and the texture won't be as smooth. Please make a video response if you've done it with drybrush, or get in touch on facebook. I'm really interested in seeing the result!
I have one model where I managed to get something close to it, but it was a with a much darker blue light. Don't have it with me at the moment but next weekend I'll try and send you a picture since I don't have a camera to record with.
WOW, just pure awesomesauce!!
