I want to say it was 1986 but I can't be sure. I need to make a new vid of this one with the replacement horseshoe style arms I got. Nice and wobble free now...
Originals, at least most of the American made ones as far as I'm aware, do not have a date stamped on them anywhere other than the tag on the side. Some have the year itself stamped, others (like this one) you need to use the serial number and a date code to figure out, which I don't have memorized or on hand. I'm still pretty sure it was 1986, one of the earliest electrically reversible models.
Those are truly awesome fans! Built to last. I had one in my parents' house. In brass with "schoolhouse" globe light kit. I remember installing it. Perfectly balanced right out of the box.
i just got a 99 original 4/5 motor and i have no idea how to keep this fan well oiled so how much oil should i put in this fan and how long should i wait before reoiling again and what oil should i use?
You use 1oz. of oil per oiling, and I recommend Zoom Spout Oiler if you don't know what to use. You should check the oil at least yearly with a bent pipe cleaner dipped in the top of the switch housing, but as long as the pipe cleaner comes out with oil on it you're good to go. When it's dry, it's time for another oz. of oil. I've heard oil lasts from 1 to 3 or more years, depending on use of the fan.
@mpsslovak thank you the original is tops on my want list for awile and i want to maintain it properly i plan to film my fans when i get a camera i had one but the audio sucks on it and i broke it so i need to get a better one
You can buy a new one from Hunter, but it's starting to appear that they've discontinued the Original after decades of manufacturing it. Try Ebay for an old one, or your local Craigslist.
@mpsslovak Hunter calls the current Hunter Originals that have a similar style to the 1990s and mid-1980s Originals the Classic Original. I'm trying to make a point that Hunter didn't fully discontinue manufacturing Hunter Originals. Only manufacturing in the U.S. has stopped. I found out yesterday that Democratic members of Congress created a bill that is based on putting manufacturing back into the U.S. They got almost no help in voting for it from the Republicans. I saw this on C-Span.
Okay... As of late though, it does appear that the Classic Original as well as many of the other Original series (Archive, Hotel, etc.) HAVE been discontinued. Only the Tropical Original is listed on Hunter's site (on clearance, aka discontinued) and many other retail fan sites have listed the Original series' as discontinued. Hopefully they are just under a redesign or something, because if the Original is gone, a legacy has been killed.
@mpsslovak I also hope it's a design change only too because it would be an outrage to see that the Original series all together is killed; which appears to me is not going to happen.
@mpsslovak Hunter still manufactures the non-American made Hotel Originals, Archive Originals with Adaptair, Archive Originals, Classic Originals, and 42'' Originals. I a lot of specialty stores still sell the outdoor Original fans though which is good.
There were four fans I think (Dan Neuman got the other three), all of which came out of a Ground Round restaurant remodel, so I was told. All the restaurants in that chain apparently had Originals when they originally opened. So no, I don't suppose they did care about the fans they were getting rid of.
I've seen many of the American-made Hunter Original ceiling fans a few years ago when I was a kid... I've first spotted the 5-bladed one sometime in the mid-90's at Denny's and then, I saw the 1980's 4-bladed version at Ponderosa's! Btw, have you ever got the Hunter Passport III ceiling fan before? I have only two videos of them.
So you finally got a Hunter Original, that's awsome. The fan wobbles of course because of the blade arms being warped. If you fix that than the fan will not wobble anymore.
Nice Original and what a nice start-up sound it has! There is a special model of the Original that I bought just last year. It's called the "Hotel Original with Adapt Air" It replicates those fans that Hunter installed in Hotels in the 1930's and features the Adapt Air function from the 1930's, invented before electrically reversible motors came into being. Unfortunately, like today's Original's, it is made in China and has the skeletal motor like today's Originals, but I still think it's nice.
Yes, on the vacation when I got this fan I was able to go to Dan's Fan City and fiddle around with a Hotel Original. Nice fans, despite not being American made. They also had the antique version, also very cool.
NICE! What is your favorite finish for a Hunter Original?
The bent brackets problem is always so ANNOYING and happens to often because peoples DON'T know that you HAVE to take off all the blades on a ceiling fan before totally taking the fan. down. Arghh!
AB is my absolute fav, with brown/PB following close behind. I can't get the brackets on this thing to budge back into place, IDK what to do. It's not as if people care about the blades when they're removing the fan either, but they should. On HGTV people lift the NEW fans they're putting in by the blades. What idiots!
What you could do is either find some blade brackets that are for the Hunter Original that are not warped and are 15 degrees in pitch, or you can contact Hunter and they will give you replacement brackets for the Hunter Classic Original. The only problem is that the screw holes in the current models are smaller than they used to be, so you would have to drill the holes to make them bigger so they will fit in your PB Hunter Original.
They used to have ceiling fans just like this one in two Pizza Hut locations in my area but when they rememodelled they did away with them. One location now has white ceiling fans that don't look cheap made and the other location has no ceiling fans at all. I wished I would have tried to get the old ones.
what year is it from?

It could also be installed with 5 blades right?I found 1 with 5 blades in a hardware store and costs over $500

Those are the later ones, this one is 4 blade only, one of the last 4 blade only ones actually I think before they went to 4/5.

What's your point? And I always just call it the Original anyways, everyone knows what it is, there's no need to slip in the extra word.

Mid 80's, I don't remember the exact year off hand.

Of course, as they all do, but after I took it out of the basement it went into storage and I can't remember the info off hand.
