@Dolphindream15 Well, the difference between the DQ and the Belle is that the Belle is not an overnight passenger vessel. The Delta Queen is still allowed to run as an excursion vessel like the Belle But to be honest, that's not an option for me as they'd have to take out all the staterooms and modify the boat in a way that she won't be the same boat after that. The Delta Queen is just one of thousands of businesses that have been destroyed by them.
So many times while boating on the Ohio River, our family would ride along side the Delta Queen, in awe of her beauty and grace. It would be travisty of justice to have her silenced because of politics. I treasure those memories forever and hope that The Grand Lady will be allowed to enchant many generations to come with her powerful voice and beautiful song from her caliope, and her stunning beauty and grace. God save The Delta Queen.
Watching the Delta Queen pass by my little Ohio river town in the 1970's was a magical experience. Mother and grandmother would excitedly exclaim, "Here comes the Delta Queen!" We'd rush to the riverbank to watch her. God save the Queen!
My grandfather, Reggie Evans, was the trumpet play for the River Boat Ramblers aboard the Delta Queen throughout much of the 80s. The Boat, as we called it, tought me about history and allowed me a relationship with my family rare in those days much less these days. Losing a treasure like the DQ would be a tragety in a world that moves so fast. Relax, take in the music, the food and the experiences of a great time in the history of our nation.
This boat is lovely, safe, and brings people from all over the country down the Mississippi River where many people would not have the opportunity to visit. All the visitors to Natchez who have been on the boat, have felt like they are a part of history. It is a shame that some Congressman would use this boat for his/her political ploys.
The Delta Queen is a historic treasure that belongs on the rivers of the U.S. She has a whole new generation of fans that deserve to get to know her. My 4 year old loves that boat and she has not had the chance to actually ride on her. Last night that was what she asked me about. "When are we going to ride on the Delta Queen, Mommy?"
Let's trust our U.S. Coast Guard. The Delta Queen has passed her Quarterly Inspections every single time, thus deeming her safe.
Save the Delta Queen. Tourism is a huge industry here. We need to grow riverfront activities, not destroy them. I rode one of these steamboats on this line, and it was remarkable, a REAL taste of history. Save the Delta Queen!

With all the other problems we are experiencing in this country this bill just does not make sense. The biggest problem the Queen might have would be one of our countries antiquated and neglected bridges falling on her. We need to impress upon our congressmen to stay focused on the issues that are important to us such as infrastucture.
Save the Delta Queen! Vote Oberstar out of office! This has nothing to do with safey, it has everything to do with Oberstar's dirty politics. The Queen WILL surive this. Oberstar's reputation and political career will NOT.
Save the Delta Queen! In a long list of absolutely silly regulatory actions, this one stands out as the silliest. The Delta Queen is lovingly maintained and a masterpiece of historical preservation. What is the purpose served in denying her exemption? Let the old girl and her crew continue to remind us of a simpler time . . .
Please save the Delta Queen!!! If not Congress, then please consider going for an Executive Order from President Bush. He, unlike Congress has nothing to lose and can make this a positive part of his legacy for ALL Americans.
Please save the Delta Queen. I have dreamed of taking a cruise on this ship since I was a child but have never been able to afford it. Please don't take away the ability to watch this inspiring ship and my dream away.
Please support a congressional exemption to save the Delta Queen! There must be a solution that can both ensure safety and allow for the continued operation of such an amazing piece of American History.
Please Help Save The Delta Queen! She's an irreplaceable part of American history.Help Keep her in service as long as she is fit and safe, and retire the sleazy idiots who want to put her in mothballs. Which is better for America: a beautiful symbol of the halcyon days of Mark Twain that pays it's own way and creats a few jobs or, another self-serving political blow-hard who must have some self serving reason for blocking permission for the Queen to continue operations as usual?
Please save the Delta Queen! She's an irreplaceable part of American history. Keep her in service, and retire the sleazy idiots who want to beach her. Which is better for America: a beautiful symbol of the halcyon days of Mark Twain, or another self-serving political blow-hard?
It's all about SAFETY. The law was Not written 42 years ago for Fun. Change the law. Don't blame the Congresspeople that follow the law- and figure EVERY Next Exemption MAY be a Fatal One. Besides.. Has anyone PRICED an overnight River Cruise lately? OMG!! They could rebuild the superstructure with Titanium for what they gouge. Just Greed using the Patsy Populace to do their dirty work.
God save the Delta Queen! And a very special thanks too Minnesota's Senator Jim Oberstar and Hawaiis Senator Daniel K. Inouye For making sure this making sure the Senate will never even get to vote on this exemption.
This riverboat needs to run for as long as she is able, grant her a permanent exemption from the law, Rep. James Oberstar! Do one right thing in your slimy life.
Why retire it if it provides jobs, helps the economy of areas it visits and if they have thousands of guests who want to cruise? Seems a ridiculous notion.
Being both a travel agent and a former Ohioan with fond memories of the Queen, this is just sad. She is a national historic landmark and cannot be destroyed or scrapped, but she needs to be able to continue to sail, as well. Save the DQ, please.
Growing up in the Queen City (Cincinnati) I have fond memories of going down to the Ohio River to see the Delta Queen. Please save this bit of history for future generations!
please help save the delta queen we live by the river in ironton. we love watching her go by and hearing her tune. my three year wants to take a cruise on her someday. i have seen the boat several times over the years. in 99 i got the honor of going aboard. she is so beautiful. it would be ashame if my daughter could not experience this. so im asking once again please save the delta queen.
Save her for the history and future generations. Her safety as been proven or she wouldn't be here. These are marvelous boats and should never be silenced.
I don't get it. Dose this boat not get regular Coast Guard inspections? Dose it not have modern fire suppression? How many wood boats would be put into overnight service if they got rid of this law? Name another boat with this heritage that still operates. I wish you the best, don't worry to much. If I don't get it, others won't either.
Please save the Delta Queen! This is a bi-partisan effort that costs our country nothing! It's rare that legislators have an opportunity to save a national treasure with no cost - political or material. The passengers, the crew and the communities visited by the Delta Queen are united in their desire to keep her afloat - how can anyone block this in good faith?
Great video, keep the pressure on congress.I have been spreading the word in all 4 corners of the earth.check out My videos on youtube.type garyecampbell in the search bar to view them.
A 2nd positive remark . . SAVE THE QUEEN !! You gotta get to the two senators in the committee and expose the money connection that supports their "Anti-Queen" position. Always FOLLOW THE MONEY. Most likely the union is paying off under or above the table. Direct cash or re-election . . . IT'S ONE FORM OF SUPPORT OR THE OTHER . . . this you can count on. EXPOSE THE CONNECTION and they will reverse position.
The following text is taken from the Save the DQ website: "We are family on the boat—black, white, Hispanic, Asian, gay, straight". This sentence should read: "white, hispanic, asian, homosexual, and "NORMAL" . . . Why do you allow the deviant to define who you are?. Whats next? The redefinition of marriage? And dont hand me the gay bashing crap AIDS is what they carry, AIDS is what they spread. 78% of AIDS cases in America are due to the homosexual lifestyle. Thanks but no thanks
The Delta Queen steamboat has become a major highlight of our life. Hanging on our bedroom wall is the certificate we received when we renewed our wedding vows on the boat as part of our 30th anniversary celebration in 2001. We plan to take the Delta Queen from Pittsburgh, PA to Cincinnati, OH as the fulfillment of one of my boyhood dreams. We have five children and eleven grandchildren. Taking the Delta Queen down the rivers of America is an experience that all of them must have as well!
Save the Delta Queen! Both as an historian and a jazz musician I've wanted for years to ride the boat down the Mississippi, but haven't gotten the chance yet. I just googled it to see what her schedule is, and saw the worrisome news. Please save the Delta Queen for people like me who haven't yet gotten to experience the mississippi in such a classic and classy way!
Please save the Delta Queen. She is a beautiful and unique part of American history. We have seen her many times at the Tall Stacks festival in Cincinnati. It is always exciting to see going down the river
SAVE THE DELTA QUEEN!! My parents spent a few days and nights on the Delta Queen more than 30 years ago, traveling from Davenport, IA, to St. Louis, MO. It was one of their favorite trips.
Representative James Oberstar of MN is responsible for not renewing the exemption citing safety reasons. Shame on him!! As long as it is floating, it should be running the Mississippi.
Way too much of our history is being allowed to vanish. The Delta Queen should NOT be one of those lost treasures!!! She's delightful and makes visitors and those watching her from the shore smile.
Please keep her sailing for as long as there's water under her!!!
SAVE THE DELTA QUEEN! I've seen her many times here on the Mississippi, and met Jimmy and Rosalyn Carter at Lock & Dam 13 when they was aboard. It's my dream to one day ride her from St. Paul to St. Louis, but that dream won't come true if she isn't saved.
Please save the Delta Queen! My memories of her go back 40+ years. My Mother used to take us to the river specifically to see her as she passed by our town. The lights and calliope music will forever be in my memory and heart. Please let her continue to give joy to generations to come. They deserve that!
I live on the Ohio River and entertain every year for the Great Steamboat Race between the Belle of Louisville and the Delta Queen. I have also toured the Queen when friends were on it. It is a historic monument which should continue for posterity. gwwal
My husband and I have cruised on the Delta Queen .We never felt unsafe. We can't imagine not being able to cruise on our favorite steamboat again.
What a shame it would be to stop the DQ from traveling the rivers, she a real piece of history and it would be a tragic loss to our country. This is something my grand children show enjoy. Please save her.
Save the Delta Queen! The first time I saw the Queen it was 3AM, we heard the wistle and I got out of bed and sat on my steps to the river. I will never forget how lovely she looked. She is my favorite of all the Queens.
Please keep her sailing so our future generations can see her. Barb
My husband and I have cruised on the Delta Queen 30 times and have never felt unsafe. We can't imagine not being able to cruise on our favorite steamboat again.
What a shame it would be to stop the DQ from traveling the rivers, she a real piece of history and it would be a tragic loss to our country. Irv and Noni Whetzel
I am a current employee on the Delta Queen. She's an AMAZING vessel. We're not asking for hand-outs, just permission to do what we've been doing for 60 years..
We need to save the Delta Queen - all they need is permission - someday I'd like to take that trip down river and stop in Winona MN and visit some friends. We need to save this historic landmark.
It would be a tragedy to lose this majestic lady. I have watched her cruise the Ohio River all of my life and still stand in awe each time she comes to Portsmouth.
Please save the Delta Queen - surely a tiny portion of the $140 billion of pork that was tied to the bailout bill can be used to preserve this important part of our history!
It was such an amazing thing to watch in my childhood... PLEASE SAVE THE DELTA QUEEN!
In this time of economic stress, it is unbelievable that Congress will not act to preserve this great historic entity that contributes so much to the economy of the USA. Please Congress, act now to permit the continued existence of the Delta Queen.
I have cruised on the Delta Queen. One cruise was all it took to get me hooked on the beauty this boat beholds. I love all the crew members dearly and continue to fight for her exemption. Please don't give up yet continue to fight. I know time is running out but I pray Congress will wake up before it is to late. SAVE THE DELTA QUEEN!!!!
One "powerful congressman" is ALL that is stopping this Historic Treasure from continuing operating??? There is what is wrong with this country... people with too much power who ignore the pleas of the people! And these people aren't asking for a dime!!! Let's get this congressman OUT of office and keep the DQ operating!
It would be a shame to see this historic boat forced out of commission. It's even worse to think about what will happen to her wonderful staff if she is no longer permitted to operate. Please.....save the Delta Queen!!!!!
What a shame that Congress wants to block passionate people, working hard to maintain part of our nation's heritage. It seems to me that "heritage", "hard-working people", "passion for our country" and "self sustaining" are characteristics that our legislators should be encouraging and facilitating right now. Such a loss if the Delta Queen is let to go fallow.
The Delta Queen stops in my hometown and the passengers visit historic sites and shop Main Street - a win for the passengers and for the community. Keep this wonderful historic vessel operating & gracing the Ohio River Scenic Byway!
It would be a SHAME if Congress is not allowed to vote on the exemption this time around. The DQ is a grand lady of the Mississippi River and I enjoyed my time on her so very much. PLEASE save the Delta Queen. A TRUE piece of our American history!
Please save this grand lady of the waters. She is such a part of our history, and our children and grandchildren deserve to see her still plying the currents of mighty rivers. She is verifiably safe; come and see for yourselves! WE LOVE THE DELTA QUEEN! Long live the Queen!
It is too bad that unions have this kind of control over Congress. It is this kind of thing that gets them the popularity ratings that are so well deserved.
Congress is more than willing to bail out the Wall Street fat cats who have taken the gullible American public for several billion dollars, yet they don't want to allow this boat and it's crew to continue operation on our nation's rivers?!?!? What a crock of pure bull$&it!!! I have heard the reason behind the removal of the Quenn from service is due to the ships hull construction consisting of all wood. This boat's hull may be made of wood, but it's as hard as steel.
I was fortunate to be able to cruise on the Delta Queen over 30 years ago. It was a wonderful experience that I will never forget! I'm writing today in memory of a very dear friend that was the Cruise Director of the Delta Queen at that time. He has since passed away... Terry Severns. He loved that vessel!! :0) And the people! He would be very sad to know what is happening today... All because of one congressman? Why? What's his reason? It truly is a magnificent piece of history! Best wishes!
I had the wonderful pleasure of cruising on the Delta Queen in 1982. It was an experience that I'll treasure! Are they forgetting that this beautiful vessel aided the U.S. NAVY in WWII? Well, it's our turn to come to her aide! It would be a travesty not to let this historic beauty keep doing what she was built to do!! Shame on this "SO CALLED AMERICAN" congressman that is trying needlessly to kill a beautiful part of American History. I wish you all the best of luck!!
My husband & I have been outraged since we learned of the Queen's forced retirement. We have cruised on this historic vessel twice. Once up the Red River to Alexandria. We have cruised the Mediterrian, Panama Canal and nothing has meant as much to us as those trips back into our own national history. How can Congress justify their actions? There is some risks in everything we do. I felt safer on the Queen than I do riding in a plane or my own car. Please, please reconsider your decision.
I've had the pleasure of touring this incredible boat, it would be a shame to lose something so historical and beautiful. Congress needs to act now to save this grand lady.
I had the opportunity to tour the Delta Queen in Pittsburgh on October 4. It is such a beautiful steamboat that has brought pleasure and adventure to those in our region. Congress is truly "missing the boat" if they do not grant an exemption to this piece of history to allow her to keep sailing. I heard first hand of the tremendous efforts that are being expended to try to get legislation passed before October 31. Keep trying... and may your efforts keep the Delta Queen afloat.
YES YES YES! Save the Delta Queen. We will be saving not only an important historical artifact, we will be preserving a way of life that will never come again. We need to support the dedicated crew of the Delta Queen and their contribution to our knowledge of American history.
This boat needs to be saved. We have spent time on The Delta Queen and the American Queen Dressed in Civil War Clothing each time with several friends. This is our history. This is something America needs to hand onto. Our children need to see where we came from and be able to be a part of it.
SAVE THE DELTA QUEEN, PLEASE!!!

This video makes the erroneous assumption that the hijacked U.S.
gov't gives a rat's *ss about JOBS.
What this is doing is DESTROYING AMERICA'S HERITAGE &
CULTURE to make young people more susceptible to the idea of
ONE WORLD GOVERNMENT.
Most of what we knew of as the "United States" is only a memory.
Either Americans WAKE UP and GET CRACKING or
WE LOSE IT ALL.

In a long list of absolutely silly regulatory actions, this one stands out as the silliest. The Delta Queen is lovingly maintained and a masterpiece of historical preservation. What is the purpose served in denying her exemption? Let the old girl and her crew continue to remind us of a simpler time . . .
