@sabeffah The only relation every stated about the Cats relations were of the twins. That is only a theory, which you can choose to believe if you would like to. Going on that, it is theorized that Misto, Munk, and Tugger were the children of her and Old Deuteronomy.
The way that Griabella dances by heself makes me think of Elphaba from Wicked, only there's no Glinda to take Grizabella's hand, so it's much more bitter and sad.

I used to feel that way too. 'Why cant they explain whats going on'? Phantom of the Opera confused me before reading the book or watching the movie and not the play. Its more about interpretation for each individual. Mine? I think while everyone else was bust scampering off...Deuteronomy remained. He didnt walk away from her. But instead, he sat by and listened to her release her emotion. He couldn't force the cats to accept her, because no one can force another to forgive someone.

The only thing you can change isn't the actions and feelings of others, but your own. We can't actually stop the other kids from all of that stuff, but... Haters gonna hate. :P
This song is so amazing; you can just feel the hurt and sadness in her voice. Elaine Paige does a fantastic job at portraying Grizabella. As a Drama Nerd, I know what has to go into a character to make it believable, and Miss Paige deserves the utmost respect. She is, in my opinion, the best and only Grizabella.
On another note, most of the play is up to the audience to decipher, but I was never quite able to figure out why Demeter doesn't help her before Bomba pulls her away. Any thoughts?
@TheCelticDove I read somewhere it's because Demeter recognizes that Grizabella is someone she might have become (thru her past association w/Macavity). Sometimes we are afraid to help someone who reminds us of our own darker days. Grizabella is further gone than Demeter was so there would have been the "sin and misery is catching" aspect as well. That's why Griza's arc is powerful; it's abt redemption.
I keep hearing stories that make perfect sense. I wish the musical could tell us flat out what happened because this is all getting so confusing. Only Deuteronomy is old enough to know Grizabella before even the events that made her an outcast. This is why her song moves him. He knows the memories of which she sings. Her 'better' days.

This has to be one of the most poignant songs ever written. It just about brings tears to my eyes whenever I hear it.
I just watched this rendition of "Cats" (on DVD) today. First time I had ever seen this musical, though I had heard a few of the songs from it. Anyway, I absolutely loved it!
And yes, the actress did a fantastic job with this part.
It's interesting to see that such seemingly small, emotional nuances in the human being, and in human performance, really isn't that small nuances at all. I hadn't expected that so many others would consciously or unconsciously pick up on this small moment in the play. It only last a few seconds, but can outweigh hours of something else... In terms of it's purity and genuinity.
As a performer, and a thinking, living human being, this is indeed interesting to behold.
Supposedly Grizabella had once been in a relationship with Deuteromony and when something occured he threw her out just because he was angry, now, he regrets it but due to his legacy he is hesitant to let her back in, but you can tell he still loves her, and he is guilty for doing this to his ex-love.
But because of what she did, the cats class her as a traitor. The kittens are to young to know of it so they are confused of the adults behaviour towards her. xx
@EmilYxSax And I've also heard that Grizabella is Demeter's mother and Demeter is Jemina's mother. Which would prove how Jemina was curious and how Demeter's coat is a little darker.
The reason why she iis shunned is because when she was younger she left the Jellicle tribe to see the outside world. She returned but is seen as an outsider...I think
Yeah but look at him at 5:21. Does he look like he just WANTED to stand on the sidelines? Maybe there was just nothing he could do. Have you thought of that? He may be leader, but being a leader also means understanding that not everyone in the group may want to agree. He could say "Lets include Grizzy." and they could still be like "NO!". So I think he WISHES he could help, but knows he may not be able to.
@CosplayCore I would question the point of having a pretty much USELESS leader then. I mean, what the hell does he do through the entire thing besides sit there, get captured, and tell the cats "HEY YOU'RE ALL GONNA DIE!" The other day I saw Cats for the first time. They were only in New York for one day apparently and luckily they put on the show at my school. Great show. The dancing was really cool and their voices were amazing.

ts eliot wrote the poems this musical is based on and it srsly seems like this character is based on his wife vivien who he abandoned. i think she was abused by the elite. im amazed that this is apparently being remarked upon in a mainstream musical tho. but i approve. she has an important story to tell.
I hate when Griz said "I was beautiful then", because all the cats are so ugly, but really ugly and they dont look like cats at all (they look like lions), only Griz is beautiful and actually looks like a proper cat!!!! This has to be one of the most poignant songs ever written. It just about brings tears to my eyes whenever I hear it.
I just watched this rendition of "Cats" (on DVD) today. First time I had ever seen this musical, though I had heard a few of the songs from it. Anyway, I absolutely loved it!
And yes, the actress did a fantastic job with this part.

It's interesting to see that such seemingly small, emotional nuances in the human being, and in human performance, really isn't that small nuances at all. I hadn't expected that so many others would consciously or unconsciously pick up on this small moment in the play. It only last a few seconds, but can outweigh hours of something else... In terms of it's purity and genuinity.
As a performer, and a thinking, living human being, this is indeed interesting to behold.

Supposedly Grizabella had once been in a relationship with Deuteromony and when something occured he threw her out just because he was angry, now, he regrets it but due to his legacy he is hesitant to let her back in, but you can tell he still loves her, and he is guilty for doing this to his ex-love.
But because of what she did, the cats class her as a traitor. The kittens are to young to know of it so they are confused of the adults behaviour towards her. xx

@EmilYxSax And I've also heard that Grizabella is Demeter's mother and Demeter is Jemina's mother. Which would prove how Jemina was curious and how Demeter's coat is a little darker.

The reason why she iis shunned is because when she was younger she left the Jellicle tribe to see the outside world. She returned but is seen as an outsider...I think

Yeah but look at him at 5:21. Does he look like he just WANTED to stand on the sidelines? Maybe there was just nothing he could do. Have you thought of that? He may be leader, but being a leader also means understanding that not everyone in the group may want to agree. He could say "Lets include Grizzy." and they could still be like "NO!". So I think he WISHES he could help, but knows he may not be able to.

@CosplayCore I would question the point of having a pretty much USELESS leader then. I mean, what the hell does he do through the entire thing besides sit there, get captured, and tell the cats "HEY YOU'RE ALL GONNA DIE!" I mean, the only thing he does is send Griz up, which is a good thing, but still, I believe my point stands.

The other day I saw Cats for the first time. They were only in New York for one day apparently and luckily they put on the show at my school. Great show. The dancing was really cool and their voices were amazing.

ts eliot wrote the poems this musical is based on and it srsly seems like this character is based on his wife vivien who he abandoned. i think she was abused by the elite. im amazed that this is apparently being remarked upon in a mainstream musical tho. but i approve. she has an important story to tell.

I hate when Griz said "I was beautiful then", because all the cats are so ugly, but really ugly and they dont look like cats at all (they look like lions), only Griz is beautiful and actually looks like a proper cat!!!! She just makes me want to grab her and take her home and love her for like eternity! LOVE GRIZABELLA AND ELAINE <3
