Such a wasted effort in singing this song for a daughter who married outside the race. The son in law is not even HMONG! Should save the song for a Hmong son in law that will appreciate these words better.

I think that zaj tshooj is very important to the hmong poeple for it has been around for more then 100 years...it's nice to see that some people still has that technique
From my own opinion I think Hmong weddings is alright. Its just that some family are very cruel and wants to take revenge on what happen to them in the past so they hold grudges against one another. But for the paying of the bride its not suppose to be a bad thing like we thought. I think it is something the bride family wants the groom to prove and understand how life is by going to work for that money. Nowaday in America money is easier to make and the meaning of mariage is lost.
why not its suppose to be something thats very exciting during the time of your new life with your hubby and his family... even though half the time your parents make it seem very sad its the most exciting time to enjoy
Hell ya!!!! If any Hmong Married women out there don't know what this song is all about you really need to listen carefully. It is soooooooooo true and sad.
Although we (bride) are in the dark as well as the groom. We learn it afterwards and take it to heart.
Totally agree with you about Hmong Wedding should change. But hey!!!!! it is not the groom that is the only person in the dark.
Come on.....the bride is more darker.
I understand that you been Hmong best man a few times. But whhat you're missing or not understand is that the lady (bride) is also in the dark as well. Because these senerios:
1. they had no clue what/why they just been sold for a chuck of money?
Of course they know what the chunk of money is for. I agree that you do and should pay for the bride, but the fines and groom side of the family is not there for the wedding should change.
It's not like the bride is leaving. She's still in the same country. Heck, I don't live with my parents. That doesn't mean I left them.
I would understand crying if the bride is married to some guy in Mars and leaving. But some of them are next door. LOL... and they still cry.
that's so stupid.. people cry for many reasons.. even if they live next doors, getting married is a change... jux cuz u didn't or wouldn't cry doesn't mean everyone should follow in ur footsteps.. - belle
well then my friend i suggest u not make the same mistake as your fellow friends did lol... so you don't get fine... well yes i do agree that its the darkest days for a groom but if you already understand the process and the correct ways of the wedding process there is no worries... when you think too much about the wedding part at the birdes place it brings on more stress inturn takes out all the fun in a wedding... its ok your only a groom once in your life don't stress too much about it :)
we need more of these traditional wedding recorded and to be on youtube or somewhere so we can learn to use these as a hmong resources for the next people who wants to see hjow it looks like to learn from it.....
thank you for this clip that put a hard effort to make this....thnx for the person who is getting married to let this video on here tooo
Look maybe hmong traditional wedding maybe look weird or stoopid to you but if you understood the meaning of being a bride who has to leave her family to go and start her own then you would know but if you dont you should be saying it is weird and stoopid. Common sense people. Dont know how tradition goes then just sit and listen or just keep your shit to yourself. Wedding like this means alot to one person and another.
Well...if your sister has forgotten about her parents, then that's YOUR sister. Whether how sad or how much she cried at the wedding doesn't determine if she'll forget or won't forget her parents, hahaha. Still...I think hmong weddings should be more happy. I guess you could say if someone cries too much at their wedding, hmm...it's just tears of joy? Yeah...must be it...I can't figure any other thoughts for it. LoL
I think Hmong wedding's are overrated. That's why everyone is crying , especially the bride... Because just as you think your life is beginning, it's actually ending as you know it..you just become a servant of your husbands family instead of your own.
but he did explained it in English before he started to sing... he explained how she should love his family and how she should not disrespect his family if u didn't get that u should go back and rewatch this .. he also explain how she should change her self to fit into his family and now she is married does she know the role of a daughter in law.... the song is just the same thing just in hmong who ever uploaded tis clip skipped the whole explanation of the song only...
I love Hmong weddings, they are truly the best. Its not only traditional but it also gives you the real true blessings you need for a marriage. An American wedding can not be compared to a Hmong wedding as a Hmong wedding not only tell a story but is a time where the girl has become a woman and is now an independent individual who will start and begin our own family w/her husband. This Zaj Tshooj Ntuas Ntxhais is very very sad.
@hismissy99 hey ladies i understand wat ur saying.... be see hmong wedding is jes getting blessing from family and others.... but if u not doing the american wedding.... ur not getting any blessing from god..... becz why... u didnt make any promise to god to keep your word....
its depends on how u look at it... dont let others put u down on what u want... love comes in different shape sized and forms and if its truly what u want for ur self go for it don't listen to anyone but ur guts... but remember taking that step toward that u must understand the different consequences and difficulties that lies ahead so be ready to over come the hardship and u two will be fine... best of luck to u
Also in my country when a girl get married the mom or dad cried bcoz they miss the girl they have when she's still single. The daughter who always with them...
how beautiful. it's always sad when a bride is leaving her family to become her husband's family. In my opinion, this part of the wedding is always the saddest part. reminds me of my wedding.... :(. I cried from the moment my mom put clothes on me til we get home and then later on again that evening. I bless these two with my love and happiness.
Ntuas tau zoo kawg tiam sis tiam sis hais lus hmoob ntshe yuav zoo tshaj koj hais zaj tshoob los kuj zoo kawg thiab tiam sis koj tus vauv thiab tus ntxhais ko ces tsis paub koj hais dab tsi li os.
Cause of the wedding look sad because the side of the girl parents having a hard time with it.... They are getting the girl the lecture and letting the guy know what the mej koom want to say... That is why sad because the sad of the girl parents raised her up so long and are readly to make her own family... She is not on that table with her family any more... She is going to start up a new table that support her life from that day on....
alright, I'm a proud Hmong myself and i know this is all part of our culture-but why does this look more saddening than happy? Why is it that when it should be a time for celebration, we cry and and don't smile one bit at all? Instead, everyone looks depressed and sad, and the daughter is lectured and warned of all the bad things ahead. its almost hard to look at all the faces because they all look so sad and gloomy. for anyone not Hmong, this would look more like a BAD day than a GOOD day. =)
A tragic to see such ignorant comment. Once you understand the concept you will see that it is actually not a "BAD" thing. What it supposedly to convey is, the mother and father love her so much that it is heart breaking. But she was born with a duty; and that is to full fill her role as a wife for another family. This song remains her to focus on her new family and be pure to not fall off track...in its most simplistic proverb. I urge you all to learn more Hmong words to fully understand.
hey i know the guy in the orange. lmfao. small world. FRESNO IT IS.

I think Hmong weddings should change. It's the darkest day of the grooms life. There's no Groom that looks forward to their wedding.
Objectives of the wedding:
- Get the groom as drunk as you can
- The groom side of the family is not invited. Just a couple of people that goes to the wedding.
- Cost of the bride & fines that the brides family charge the grooms family even though they were never there during what ever happens.
Believe me, I'm Hmong and I've been the best men for many weddings.

wow lovewilllast u must be that desperate to want to go out with your sister in law's brother lmao! SICK......lolol
jannco916 2 years ago
can u marry ur sister in law brother
lovewilllast1 2 years ago
its depends on how u look at it... dont let others put u down on what u want... love comes in different shape sized and forms and if its truly what u want for ur self go for it don't listen to anyone but ur guts... but remember taking that step toward that u must understand the different consequences and difficulties that lies ahead so be ready to over come the hardship and u two will be fine... best of luck to u

Also in my country when a girl get married the mom or dad cried bcoz they miss the girl they have when she's still single. The daughter who always with them...
mfmt13 2 years ago
the parents cry because when the daughter gets marry the daughters spirit is no longer part of her family but part of her husbands family
pac916 2 years ago
how beautiful. it's always sad when a bride is leaving her family to become her husband's family. In my opinion, this part of the wedding is always the saddest part. reminds me of my wedding.... :(. I cried from the moment my mom put clothes on me til we get home and then later on again that evening. I bless these two with my love and happiness.

We need more zaj tshoob to be posted on youtube...this is very educational and will help the next generation to learn and keep the Hmong culture.
Bravo to whoever posted this up...thank you!!!

yes, but why each different person has a different zaj tshoob. this is to complicated and hard to understand.
bB0yFury 2 years ago
there's always so much crying at the weddings.
it's suppose to be a happy moment; tears free.
but crying shows how much her relatives and family love her

idliketosay 2 years ago
you know...what u say is kind of true... but i think it just part of culture and there best wishes n last words
shootme03 2 years ago
A tragic to see such ignorant comment. Once you understand the concept you will see that it is actually not a "BAD" thing. What it supposedly to convey is, the mother and father love her so much that it is heart breaking. But she was born with a duty; and that is to full fill her role as a wife for another family. This song remains her to focus on her new family and be pure to not fall off track...in its most simplistic proverb. I urge you all to learn more Hmong words to fully understand.
