It strikes me that no papermill vid on youtube includes the chipper room, unless they were removed along with the rest of the machinery, but i guess very few papermills do in house chipping.
Oh I'd just love to go in there!! I bet it feels haunted! I love the fact that it's abandoned like that...The music gives it a really creepy feeling...and yeah I support the abandoning of paper mills so this is like an awesome video :)
This is an incredibly cool vid, as is the music! Would love to see it in full definition. I got led here from your Bethlehem Steel slideshow...you have quite the knack for getting into places the rest of us cannot. I live in Milford and am involved with the community group that meets with the EPA on the clean up. I would love to be able to access the places in here that you did, and the places at Bethlehem Steel also. The various guards don't let you roam around. Nice work.
i live on the road this is on and i often find myself hanging out down there , my dad worked there ,my great uncle and several other relatives. me i have never been in there but i have been in the house that was build for the exectutives on delaware ave next to it. do you have any info on this house i have had some strange things happen in that house when i was in there and have heard its haunted?
thanks blackspike and fuzzybuzz for commenting. i've stood at the porch of that house looking in the windows, and i think the fire dept. used to practice there, but i don't know anything else about it. the mill constantly made noise when i was in there, but it was usually the wind blowing doors open and closed.
Yeah, its pretty creepy in there now. I used to go to work with my dad every once and a while and its just weird to see it so trashed inside. A few friends and I went though it one night... strange things happened.
thanks drew. the equipment part is easy. you probably already have just about everything you need. the hard part is the patience. it's a pain in the ass to shoot this way.
This mill was built in 1906 as the flagship mill of Reigel Corporation. It was owned by James River from the late 70's through 1993, when it became part of Crown Vantage. It was the premier producer of wax paper for cereal boxes and various candy paper including M&M bags and the brown paper on the Reese's peanut butter cup.
that was awesome.. Did you have to get permission to go inside there and be around it? or did you break the rules to film this? or were you free to explore the property without permission?
This is a real symbol of what happens to industry and jobs in the our country when politicians pander to idealistic snobs rather than what is good for the country.....We need jobs....The Pulp & Paper provides jobs...good paying ones. However, the toll of evironmentalist and horrible political determinations have taken a hellacious toll on this industry....They can't wait to move these jobs out of country...to places that have no enviromental laws...Net sum: Pollution to the environment go up!!
This is a great video. I have a house across the river from this plant. I just want to point out that while I agree with your overall point, this plant created an environmental disaster and the reason it still stands as it does is because of litigation and the land being permanently poisoned. This plant dumped PCB's & dyes directly into the Delaware River for years and years and the area where they dumped it is now a SuperFund Site. We need the jobs back, but we need responsible oversight to.
This video was well done but I really don't get it Marc. Are you anti-industry and this video is supposed to make us view the manufacturing industry as evil? The music you picked is sinister in effect and brings an evil ambience to the whole rundown mill thing. Is this mill in your town or did you find it somewhere and knew nothing about its history but it looked ugly so you drew a social opinion of it and decided to show the ugly side of industry by making this video?

Is there still some paper machines inside, or are they gone?
torrarn 3 years ago
the big paper machines were gone. there were a few parts of older, smaller paper machines in places.
