I wasn't so taken with Let the Right One In. It was successfully creepy and stylish, but I felt it lacked a main focus or any sort of soul-hitting substance that made it feel relevant.

Hmm. My only suggestion then would be to watch it again. We obviously have very different criteria on how we judge movies. It's widely accepted as the greatest film of the vampire genre. The cinematography is second to none. It's both a classic story but unbelievably original. The music score is brilliant and the acting and message of the film are beautiful. Also the film probably cost less to make than Christian Bale's trailer.

I won't deny that the cinematography was excellent, but I just didn't feel like the story or plotting was essential or penetrative in any way. Many do indeed say it's the greatest vampire film of all time, but what exactly is it up against? Not very much in terms of legitimate filmmaking.

It was one of the best-reviewed movies of the year (93 on Metacritic, 96% on RT), it got SIX Oscar noms, it won Best Animated Film pretty much everywhere, and it was deemed BEST PICTURE (out of all 2008 movies) by the Boston, Ohio, LA, Chicago, and Online Critics Organizations. It's easily the most rewarded animated film of all time, and it was on 162 top 10 lists last year, more than ANY OTHER FILM!
