  • went from fender to gretsch, never regretted, not saying which is better than the other but both are completely different beasts

  • my mexican strat is awesome. its an '09. they really upped the quality on their mexican strats in '09, the woods look more natural, and i honestly dont know the difference from the ameritcan other than the vintage trem vs modern trem

  • my mexican feels and sounds better than the american mades... the neck is much smoother with an oil finish rather than a heavy over laquered neck the americans have. and it just sounds sooooooo fat and soooooo good

  • my guitar, the first guitar i ever purchased, is a schecter omen 6 extreme mahoganoy body with maple top, maple neck, rosewood fretboard. the original owner installed a set of EMG 81/85 pickups, i bought it for 250 USD, and im pretty sure this is the best purchase ive made in my entire life. looks, feels, and plays exactly the way i want my guitar to.

  • Remember those three things:

    1. Play-ability

    2. Uhhh

    3. Uhhh

  • thumbs up if your watching this in 2012

  • ive heard that recently the mexican made have been higher quality then the american

  • Alright, Bruce Willis

  • I have a 3 fender Mexican guitar like standard stratocaster standard telecaster and blacktop Telecaster there nice guitar I upgrade one my guitar with new stuff like pickups my telecaster with noiseless pickups and my stratocaster with new pickups with Seymour duncan pickups on the bridge pickups and neck pickups

  • Which is better? Mexican or japan made Fender Strat? I'm thinking about craftmenship and eletronics.

  • @djquad6 JAPAN

Look for one of the "e series" from the mid 80's.

  • Most fender strats are made from 7-8 pieces of wood, mate.

  • blablablablablablablablablablablabla................

  • I own an American Standard Fender Stratocaster with a Sunburst Head and Rosewood Fretboard, awesome guitar.

  • seeeeeeeeriously man! blablabla.

  • even if you can play a cupa chords SQIRE IS THE BEST BEGINER GUITARS!!!!!11

  • @TheGuitargod56 The CV, VM or Deluxe lines are quite nice, but I wouldn't touch a standard or Affinity model of Squier.

  • my first guitar was a epiphone sg

  • can you play the gitar quit and don't to much speakkkk !!!!

  • my first electric guitar was a strat squire and now i have an epiphone les paul as well as the squire and well the squire is very bad quality compared to my epiphone.

  • @ArenaHopeful i have les paul just like you and my buddy bought squier and ive notice the same thing , the sound of the les paul is much heavier and the squier emits a humming noise when ur not pressing any cord against the fret board , sounds like having the cable on a amp and instead of plug the other end on the guitar ur just touching it with a finger

  • @f1l173 yes as far as off brands go epiphone is much better then squire and ive played a mexican strat and they are so much better then squire strats.

  • @ArenaHopeful i was thinking to get a strat but im not sure yet maybe ill get gibson instead

  • the mex and american factories are a rocks throw away from eachother and if you ask some truck drivers ( tractor trailer drivers ) , they will tell you, they are constantly taking parts from one factory to the other ... just wanted to mention it. i have both mim and mia and I love them both, i looked into the electronics and there is not much difference between them.

  • @schaneberger

    True True.

Prices are kept down by several things.

Firstly, its terrible but also Fact that the Labour is cheaper in Mexico.

Pablo and Juan earn as much in a week as what Kenny and Duane earn in a few hours.

There is also some cutbacks on Finishing, such as the rolled edges on the fretboard of a US and just general fine touches.

It doesnt mean the MEX ones are bad guitars they just cut some costs to make em more affordable

  • it's all about which ones feel the best to you personally. I've got an American 82 telecaster and an American custom strat. and I've owned multiple mexicans. and the mexicans hold their own, if you find the right one

  • the mexican made won't last as long, but thats it

  • all bullshit. I've an old japanese 1991 squier Hank Marvin model and a 1993 mexican squier who sound like a US Fender.

  • for 650 you have a used gibson les paul studio so I think that's better then a epiphone

  • @TheWallGuitar If you paid 650 for a guitar that costs 800 new you have a problem

  • @frenchfriedfrenchmen they are 1200 new, the faded are 800 new but the normal studio is much better

  • I've tried all three major Fenders. My main guitar is a modified Mexican Fender. I have a Japanese Yngwie Malmsteen Strat and my cousins play around with their American Fender. I have to say that the Mexicans are a really good cheaper alternative to an American or Japanese one.

  • @TheSurfPunks you may be right . never owened a squier but lots of people like 'em . it must have been a bad one. keep rockin we all love guitars thats the main thing:)

  • i have a SQUIER AFFINITIYSTRAT HSS is the corpus made of massive wood?

  • ...ok, but the gay who told me that was a "fender guru" that was going from shop to shop in Italy demonstrating fender instruments and had visited the american and Mexican factories...anyway, a piece of solid wood can be better of worse, but with top pickups I can't tell the difference usually between a mexican and an american made guitar. telecasters and fenders were born as cheap mass production guitars and were not ment to be amazing.

  • i own since one year a 59 road worn mexican strat and , ILOVE this INSTRUMENT , i never play better than on these axe , its such a great guitar !!

  • get the usa better made sounds nice. older the better. plus holds its price.my friend had a squier strat it was made out of agathis or some shit real nasty thing.lol dont waste your money.

  • I have a chinese one

  • i bought a mim strat in 2002 and i ordered it from musicians friend and after i ordered it i was like wow!! i should of played one first. so worrying about how it would feel or sound , when it arrived i was HAPPY!!! i love this guitar!! very nice. i was lucky to get a great guitar! i've had american strat players trying to buy this from me, but no way man!! no!! no! no!! nope!!!!! great guitar!!!

  • i have a squier strat. i think its very well made it has that great fender sound and a nice feel to it. fender doesnt make a "bad" product because there a good company. now if you want to spend 400 dollars more for something that they may not even keep then go for it.

  • But the Mexican made dont cost 200-250 dollars it costs 400+ on ebay and stuff O.O

  • The other day I watched a History Channel documental about the fender guitars factory and the workers there were mexicans and latinos, so; whats the difference between MIA and MIM strats? They're made by mexican hands anyway.

  • @arqdga I couldn't agree with you more. My family is all involved in music, and one of my boys plays the drums. We live near the DW factory and took in a tour of the facility. My wife committed that although we are in the USA, almost all of the worker bees were Hispanic who were painting, forming, designing, both drums and pedals. If we didn't know better, we would have thought we were in Mexico.

  • i thing play ability staying tune and TONE is the real 3 thing that makes guitar good but im thinking only about tone

  • i would definitely put intonation at the top of the list for anyone

  • nobody uses craigs list in south dakota

  • Comment removed

  • you care about the tone? hahaha, you play every guitar on the line 6 spider!

  • @njok19933 I totally agree. Although on one video he said he likes tube amps much better, so it'd make much more sense to test all these guitars through a tube amp.

  • @njok19933 you sir, had the balls to say what everyone was thinking

  • the best deal is a luthier guitar

  • I have a cheapy $150 Squire Indonesian made Strat... and it sounds gorgeous. I really don't know if I just got lucky by chance but it plays so well. It never goes out of tune, the neck is so smooth, and it sounds just right (a bit on the weak side, but good tone). The only problem is that the tone knobs are useless... So I think I'm going to try to upgrade to a MexiStrat and see how much better I can milk the beauty of a Fender.

  • in my opinion.. that video was made in 2007 new mexican made stratocaster like the fender deluxe players its just awesome and it really affordable 599.. im getting one of those..

  • Even American Standard Strats don't even have a one piece body, you have to buy

Custom Shop to get that... And Mexican Strats have I think either 3 or 4 piece bodies and the Americans I know have a 2 piece body if you get the standard or better, but the highway 1's and american specials have 3 piece bodies

  • It varies so much guitar to guitar no matter if its mexican or american or whatever the brand. Sometimes you just run into instruments that have the feel you want or sound that much more musical than others. The one thing a USA has his the resell value. I just hate though when someone posts old MIM's on kijiji for $400 when you can buy a new one exactly the way you want it for not much more or just buy a highway one for around $500 used.

  • hey David what's good guitar like Fender Stratocaster American Deluxe or american standard

  • ive played some mim strats that where just as good as american made lol

  • 6 years ago i got my first electric an ibanez it only costed 400 bucks you may say only 400, it is because the neck owns most higher end guitars the tone is good and the electronix are still mint and it tolerated all the miss usage it had on my gigs i cannot find another guitar to replace it the most part of the price you pay when you buy gib or fender is not quality but brand so any begginers out there if i were you ide go for ibanez or jackson at least for all you metalheads

  • American and Mexicans are both made by mexicans so flip a coin... joking haha xD

  • The singlecoil pickups in my mex strat are hotter than my than my american strat which are texas specials bought the american first then a year later tried the 2011 mexican and it blew the american in terms of sound out of the water. The quality of the mex is very good also (if it wasnt wouldnt have bought it)

  • 80's Japanese strats FTW!!

  • cant you just add a couple springs to make it stay in tune

  • are the squier teles better than the strats?

  • @kevork97 yes, because there is less to put in a tele (in terms of parts) they are genral better bulid. i have a squire classic vibe tele, its an amazing guitar for the price. does everything you want and more, i feel the squire strats have much to be desired, but thats just me, ask around.

  • @tom27j i thought so...i have an affinity tele and its a great guitar but im thinking of getting an epiphone les paul and a fender strat

  • my dad wasnt bill gates, i couldnt even think about gettin this when i started out

  • Best choice is Fender Mexico Deluxe

  • I'm buying a fender standard stratocaster from guitar center for 500 bucks but it doesn't say where it's made. Can anyone help?I'm changing out the pickups anyways so the electronics is no problem.

  • @TheRealSonicYouth it should say made in USA if its american, if it doesnt then its almost always mexican. also check the serial number, starting with MZ or MN is mexican made

  • @TheRealSonicYouth it's normaly written at the top of your neck, under Fender.

  • @TheRealSonicYouth its most likely a mexican made

  • I'm buying a fender standard stratocaster from guitar center for 500 bucks but it doesn't say where it's made. Can anyone help?

  • 22 more videos please! Like if you get it!

  • you're a dumb ass, theres plenty of import guitars like the SX/Douglas/Agile Series that can go neck and neck with american made name brands

  • I've played an American Strat and I have a Mexican, to tell you the truth, the Mexican strat is better. The one I have is made with a two piece body instead of the 3 piece american body, and stronger pickups, and yes, a hardshell case.

  • 300$ LOL not a chance, my sunbusrt from the shop was nearly 700!

  • @bluesBro18 yours was american, or you got horribly ripped off. they're 270-299 ish on Guitarcenter's used website

  • Squier basses are extremely good quality for the price, I can't immagine their guitars being that bad.

  • If you own it it's yours. Modify it all you want. If you are concerned about the resale value you aren't a player because you are sure to beat the hell out of it if you gig out.

  • I have a Deluxe Players Strat with the American Noiseless pickups and it sounds amazing. I just have one question. I would like to upgrade to an American tremelo but I'm not sure can install it on the mexican strat because the mexican has multi holes and the American has just 2 posts. Can this swap be done without drilling any holes or other mods? If anyone knows please post some info.

  • IMO, MIM strats are the best guitar in their price range. how ever, the American Strats do have a few features that may make a big difference over the years. Including:

Better tremelo = much better intonation

    better P-ups

    better tuners,

A HARD SHELL CASE (worth $150)

22 frets instead of 21 on MIMs,

and better finish for more resonance. (along with better woods, and a better job with the frets and stuff)

  • @jonafun516 So, when you think about it, MIM strats are $500. and MIA strats are $1,000. but, the parts I listed above cover the difference. (if you want 22 frets, replacing the neck is $200.) plus a $150 case, plus $150 better Pups, theres your other $500. (plus you get a free $25 cable with the MiAs) overall, I'd consider the MIMs to be a stripped down version of the MIAs. IMO

  • There was a great artical in Guitar World magazine that really hit home with me on this subject. A famous musician was ask about the greatest invention of the last 20 years. His answer was the availability of high quality, low cost guitars due to CNC machining and the prolifieration of aftermarket parts. In the 60's thru 80's, if you wanted high quality, you paid high dollars. Not so today. You can get very high quality fo very little cash. Sometimes the brand name drives up the $.

  • I want an electric guitar, a fender, for Christmas and so i need help. Please inbox me??

  • I like the mexican made strats.......

  • If you want to stay under $500 and have a freaking good guitar buy a squier japan.........

  • i own both american and mexican i like 'em both

  • @NICKWAPPERER117 I got an Squier :S, and . . . well, i guess that i like it

  • @NICKWAPPERER117 I have a USA LTD 50th anniversary 1995 turquoise metallic blue strat with matching head-stock, which is just the best to play, and sounds sweeeeet, I have a MIM tele, which also sounds sweeet, I am planing to buy another strat this week, not sure weather to get a MIM or a used USA strat, I could pick a used std usa strat up for the same price as a 50s classic player mim strat, think I will get a usa, a year old so that frets are good ect, only for the resale point

  • I tried learning on rubbish guitars. The argument being the price reflects my ability. They were horrible to play. Pick up one of these and i was kike "wow"

  • the low end squier guitars are only good for doing a pete townsend if you dont want to trash a good guitar

  • at bought an squier at best buy.should i return it?

  • @elpueblano009 unless youve been at guitar for a few years, keep it.

  • if ur just startin y wuld u waste mula on something awsome then not be able to play it? shuld deffinitly start with a shitty cheap one atleast until u learn enough to play.

  • Doesguitarcenter sell this guitar from the 90s ?

  • Basically..?...no matter the price or brand name..?...a crappy made guitar, is a crappy guitar!! Its the luck of the draw no matter where or who made it !! I got REAL lucky !!

  • I've been playing over 25 yrs. I have a couple customized 80's Ibanez Rg guitars, a Custom Performance . I just bought me a MIM 96' Sunburst Stratocaster...with a Marshall MG 15DFX amp, Dunlop Wah pedal, guitar stand and strap!!!....all for $350 on Craigslist!! It's sweet !! Mint condition!! Killer deals are out there for the MIM stuff!! But theres not a real significant difference in the guitars quality !! Same woods, necks, and most electronics....the older the better!!

  • one question does the fender mexican have an active pickup???

  • and a...mmm....and a.... mmm and a....

  • That's an Ovation Breadwinner in the back right?

  • I think its a good beginner guitar because my first electric was an Epiphone sg, now that i'm older i realize i wish i would've gotten the fender because i would still be able to appreciate it and play. TO ANY BEGiNnERS OUT THERE, GET THIS GUITAR!

  • why is dave so awesome?

  • No idear to play one but im gonna buy one tomoz and learn :)

  • Comment removed

  • what about epiphone LP ?

  • @Hacker2090 got one..the standard ebony one...dude, trust me, it fucking rocks

  • @Metallicafanfrom93 im new to electric and i want to get my first electric..and somthing with good price ..ibanzes thems good but im worried about the whammy out of tune problems

  • @Hacker2090 trust me, get a lp ebony ...its worth it..i just love the sound, i mean, even with a 15w amp i rock the shit out of it :D. Off topic, im making a hand made explorer guitar, its called the explorer supernova, and it fucking rocks :D

  • @Metallicafanfrom93 i will see my budget :D

  • ...

  • Look like he has a black eye. A lil bit.

  • The Mexican pickups generally sound great. The only drawback is that before they get to your amp they have to go through a cheap switch, lousy pots and a flimsy jack, which all degrade the sound. I've been playing American Fenders for 40 years and thought the Mexican models were something to avoid, until I got the real scoop. I bought a Mexican Strat and put in a new switch, CTS pots and a switchcraft jack and the guitar kicks ass. It does everything it should and at a fraction of the price.

  • American Standards and Mexican Standards are basically the same guitar. Fender's Corona plant is " The Custom Shop". They make vintage reissues and artist models. They don't make standerds of any kind. The American standard bodies and necks come from Mexico. The Corona shop adds USA decals and serial numbers along with american electronics. They can't tell you this and justify the price difference. I got this info straight from a custom shop employee who will remain anonomous.

  • take off your hat!!!!

  • what about the epiphone strat? whats your opinion on that?

  • In Brazil, a Mexican Standard Stratocaster is around 1.600,00 US Dolars, I have an Epiphone Dot with Gibson 57+ on the bridge and 57 Classic on neck and I've just purchased a MIM Strat on eBay for 250 Dolars, if any brazilian is reading this, try eBay!

  • @Punkdebutique im no brazilian but i ordered a mim strat from mexico....saved quite a few hundred dollars...same guitar for a lot cheaper....gets me!

btw im from romania...yea, good deal

  • i have fender squier stratocaster classic vibe 50's and it is a great guitar it stays in tune and it has good tone, the neck is just great.

  • you made some great points about the epiphone (beginner guitars)

  • Has the MIM 1995 those nice pick-ups? And the 1999?

  • Could you fucking play the guitar?

  • Thanks man! Im from Argentina and im looking for a new guitar. I like the Strats, i have one Sx Stratocaster, price is $100 (600 Pesos Argentinos), i think in USA this is cheaper than here. So i will go for a Mexican Strat (here is $1000, 4000 pesos Argentinos and American Strat is 6000 pesos Argentinos). My question is: I like SRV, and i want to have a little of his tone, not just sounds like him (i would like to sound like myself to)¿this strat can be a good choice for me? T U Again!

  • @lucasf22

1000dollar for a mexican strat :O theyre like 500bucks in the US :O

Id say just stick to your SX (most of them are well made imo, theyre only 100bucks and what you get for that is a lot of bang for buck if you ask me.)

Unless you hate your SX id say try and upgrade it (tuners, nut, pups etc, shield your wires) because the 'basics' (neck, body, wood overall) are pretty good for most of the SXs

  • What is the CORRECT name for this Fender? Theres a ton of Strats.

  • @mupp33n standard stratocaster

  • @muscletruckdude Can find nothing about 'Standard Stratocaster' lol

  • @mupp33n seriously? lol. look at musicians friend and look for fender standard strat. you'll find

  • @muscletruckdude try thomannDOTde I cant find a normal strat there lo

  • so helpful~ thank you!

  • Many real thanks for this upload. I've been toying with the idea of a Fender Strat for a little while, although my budget really limits me going too high ie an American Strat. The idea of a Mexican Strat sounds good. I didn't really want the situation of buying a really cheap guitar, then upgrading to a Strat later on. I might as well go for a Fender in the first place? I fancy a brown sunburst rosewood (left handed) at some point. Hmmm something to think about? Thanks for this great advice :)

  • Thanks for the good info

  • What sort of beginner can afford a mexican strat ?? o.O I'm a fairly solid intermediate player at this stage and i'm only just about able to consider the mexican fenders o.O

  • @stuie1993 My first guitar was a used electric Mexican Fender Stratocaster. Good guitar too, although I did have to return it for the nut to be resaddled after a week, after that though it's been good.

  • @stuie1993 it all depends on the money, some people have a lot of money and can consider an american fender a "starter" guitar (i'm not among those)

  • @stuie1993

    get a job? :D

  • @stuie1993 you can try squier

  • @stuie1993 it's all relative. my first guitar was a MIM, but I saved for a long time to get it. and 3 years later, I still have it and love it a lot. sure I'm saving for a MIA strat, but it's all in what your values are. also, if you're serious about guitar and you know your gonna stick with it, having a quality instrument is a must. and a MIM is just that.

  • @stuie1993 Yeah, i agree. I'm completely self taught, started with a squire (omg horrible) now i have an adx120 ibanez and im thinkin about a fender strat. Got a friend who started with a mexican, had 5 lessons and gave up...

  • Comment removed

  • @stuie1993 The kind of beginner who has parents who get them whatever they want.

  • @stuie1993 well i got a mim strat used from my parents for 210 with a hard case for my birthday in 2002, and i used my dad's amps. after that, all guitar related purchases were made by me. but idt any kid can afford a new one lol, and they shot up from 400 to 500

  • mia strats tend to have better wood and qc. mim strats tend to have more vintage specs like 7.25 radius and 21 frets which i like (hate all that noiseless pickups and modern tweaks on mia strats). Fender knows how to market their guitars, to get the best of both words, there is custom shop. Or fender japan :)

  • honestly i like the mexican made ones better than american made. the only pickup i'd change is the bridge pickup cuz i like my bridge pickup to have some bite!

  • I'm getting 1 just like that 4 Christmas except it's black.... Oh well....

  • @berlits I agree with berlits. The Clasic Vibe kinda beats up on some MIM's. However @Jordanremix21, the sustain on the CV's were weaker than the MIM.

  • Comment removed

  • @berlits I DEFY you to go play a CV strat or tele and come back and tell me it's cheap. Besides, tone is in the fingers and i can make a Squier sing...can you?

  • @berlits I DEFY you to go play a CV strat or tele and come back and tell me it's cheap. Besides, tone is in the fingers and i can make a Squier sing...can you?

  • I'm gonna forgive Dave for talking ish about Squiers because the Classic Vibe Strats hadn't come to prominence yet. Those strats are better than most MIM strats and I even like some better than the MIAs.

  • At least the Mexican guitars sounds a lot better than the ones made in Korea or Indonesia.

  • maybe I'll get the Mexican one.... but what I heard is the Mexican one dont stay in tune. is it??

  • @hothengchun with old strings on it its hard to, but with nice new strings, and dont go to crazy on the whammy bar, you'll enjoy it

  • What Happened To Your Eye ???

  • the difference between a Mexican Fender and a USA Fender is that one's made by Mexicans in Mexico and the other by Mexicans in America

  • @wowspare

    LMAO...but true.

  • @wowspare either way a standard mim or usa fender is gonna be made by mexicans i say go with a japanese fender sounds on par with the usa fender if not better and costs less

  • @leonoff89 Jap strats are made of pine :D Mexican strats are a step up as they use the same wood as USA fenders but the Mexican made use lower grade cuts of wood then the USA premium cut guitars of kickassness....

  • @wowspare hahahahahahha it's true!!!! yeah! I prefer the best, so I'm going to buy a Mexican Stratocaster, made by Mexican people in Mexico!

  • @wowspare mexico is in america ¬¬

  • @wowspare In fact, all the fender stuff is made in Ensenada, Mexico and the "customs" are made in Mexico City.

  • @wowspare and the fact that with the american all your paying is tax :/

  • @wowspare Are you being racist?

  • @Martinezlopez113 no man, its a joke relax :D

  • @wowspare i'm american but my deluxe player was made in mexico, i went down there to get it when it was made and the craftmanship is far better than any of your american strats that you can name. the electronics are handwired and it's at a lower price because of labor managements. maybe you should do some research, all the vintage relic stratocastors were all made in mexico but were stamped by america when crossing the border, did you not know this? maybe you should go to the library and read up

  • @slashnpraise I'm not American. I did not imply that American craftmanship is superior to Mexican craftmanship anywhere. I've been playing guitar for 13 years and consider myself to be quite knowledgable in that aspect. Basically, I was making a joke and you misinterpreted it. please try to comprehend other people's comments before replying.

sorry for any spelling errors english isn't my first language

  • @wowspare haha it's okay, english is not my first language either. it's my fifth (hence the punctuation errors) so need to apologize(:

  • @wowspare pretty much dead on with that statement!!...lol...higher U.S.wages, means higher U.S. prices!! Pretty much the same guitars though!!

  • @wowspare well said!
