lost deserved to win every year!! During these years i've really really really loved a lot of shows...i was litterally addicted to 24, dexter and others. Even if lost was not, in some way, that addictive( At least not always and at least not for me), it was always something more!!!

I think we just exited the new "golden age" of television. These were all very good shows, and there are a handful of good ones now... but if you list the best shows today, and line them up with the best shows 10 years ago (or in this case, 6-7 years ago) including many not up for "best drama"...I think the current state of television is clearly falling in quantity of quality. Shows now are getting smaller budgets, smaller audiences, smaller stories, and becoming less cinematic.

Amazing show. But, please, as much as I love sci-fi I don't come to the extreme of saying it is sci-fi. Lost is one of those rare stories that mixes many genres in one. And it is not majorly sci-fi.

I'm a huge LOST fan, but dude you're fighting a losing argument; comparing a show like LOST, which is built on mysteries, the supernatural and "OH SHIT!!" moment-twists to a show like the Sopranos, which is a show based on realism about a guy who just happens to be in a crime organization that has been constantly declining.

Lost is about Locke rolling out in that wheelchair. Lost is about Not Penny's Boat. Lost is about Alex on her knees being executed in front of Ben's eyes. @lemonarcade Well I suppose they are, just like Chris dying the in Sopranos. The reason I listed those is because they're powerful human moments. For a science fiction show about time traveling polar bears, Lost gets incredibly deep down to the core of its characters, and that's what makes the show special. Finding out that the Kahana was "Not Penny's Boat" wouldn't be legendary if we didn't watch Charlie embrace his destiny and cross his heart as he drowned right after.

@militiagung64 I also forgot to mention that I wasn't intending to say that the Sopranos being based on realism made it better, I was just saying that it was kind of pointless to compare the two because of it. Watching the Sopranos, I always knew that once someone was whacked, that was it. With Lost's supernatural element, if someone dies, they could come back to life somehow, make you think they're dead but then really just be the monster, or show up in the alternate time line.

@lemonarcade This unpredictability is another reason I love LOST so much. I agree with you though. The characters are the core of the show, like last night's episode for example. My girlfriend was bawling her eyes out when the sad music started playing during Sun and Jin's last scene. Then when they showed their hands underwater, separate, I was doing everything I absolutely could to hold back the man-tears.

It is. Unfortunately I was frustrated halfway through Season 1 with too many questions and not enough answers, and I fell victim to the whole "They have no direction, they're making this up and it's going nowhere" thing. But then a co-worker convinced me at the start of S3 to go back and watch online what I had missed, and thankfully I did.. because I think it's the best TV show ever.

The show is extremely complex. The average viewer cannot simply tune in and say "I want to go back and watch 101 hours of this show and get into it!"

So the ratings basically have declined and will probably keep declining or stay stagnant. It doesn't mean it isn't a great show, but the execs primary responsibility is making money, and the show's budget is big, the actors are making more money, but the ad revenue will stay the same or go down. It's a shame.
