Now that we can look back in retrospect, it is clear that by banning Kathak dance in Pakistan, the country has impoverished it's own cultural heritage. If Nahid had remained there with support and sponsorship, there would be many of her students out there today and we would be talking about a Lahore Gharana. Kathak is the only dance form that takes it's traditions from both Hindu and Muslim cultures. Pakistan has diminished its own cultural richness by this norrow minded ban of classical dance
@rannajim Kathak might have been banned for a few years in General Zia's period. However Pakistan has enhanced her cultural richness by her 'open minded' uplift of ban on classical dance since after Zia. Nahid produced talented disciples; Ahsan Nadeem, Shaima Sayed, to name a few. Nahid thrives very well in Lahore and teaches at an academy. Ahsan also teaches. Both, perform at World Performing Arts Festival Lahore, one of the biggest of it's kind in South Asia.
Nahid used to be married to Zia Moyeddin ( the announcer at the beginning.) I knew both a number of years ago. ( I no longer move in those circles ). She's a brilliant dancer And Sabri is a brilliant tabla player.
points well said.
