  • how many watts per speaker does that boombox give, looks like it goes load with the size of the speakers, do you still have it ?

  • Lol why waste your time just buy a transmitter i got a 10 Watt Fm transmitter for £50

  • @buzzn2011 That is true, but I wanted to make something that could fit in my pocket so as I walked around the house and talked I could be heard on any radio in the house. Besides, making something yourself and having it work really gives you a sense of accomplishment.

  • @CoolDudeClem Learn about dipole antennas mate, two 750 cms lengths of wire, one connected to where your existing antenna wire is on the circuit board, and another connected to the 'earthy' side (the - terminal of the battery) to act as a counterpoise will dramatically increase range, especially if you could get the thing up high or at least in a window. Pull one 'leg' of the antenna up and the other down, you could dangle it rom a curtain rail. Note: in some countries it's illegal to transmit.

  • Respond to this video... man,can u tell us what was the modifications u made on that coil to make the setup working?

  • @riky22lou I cant remember the dimensions of the coil, sorry, I know a lot of people have trouble when it comes to this part, I certainly did. All I can rememebr was that I wound about 6 or 7 turns of wire round a screwdriver, the best thing would be to experiment with different coils and see whitch one works.

  • @CoolDudeClem bro, u said in ur video description that "u needed BIGGER coil". what did u do to the coil, man, did u modify the winding diameter or the wire diameter, man?

  • CHEESE!! YOU SMELL OF CHEESE CLEM!!

  • I wish I had all of your knowledge! Great stuff

  • Very Cool Clem!

What's the range of the transmitter?

    Great work.(-:\>

  • I'm not sure how far it will transmit, i does seem to be able to go about 2 rooms away, maybe more. If you're talking about the requncy range, I can get it to trasmit on any normal fm frequency from 88 to 108 and it can go outside of that, but it works best at the lower frequencies.

  • You should become a radio ham immediately!!!

  • Well I am quite a ham behind a microphone and sometimes in front of a camera. Maybe ham radio will be one of my future hobby's.

  • I've been thinking of building one to use as a guitar cord replacement device. I'm not sure how I would do it so there would be no risk of being out playing somewhere and all of the sudden picking up a radio station in the middle of my solo. Hah

Maybe I'll figure somethin out though.

Nice job by the way. I admire the way you stick to it til it's done!

  • I'm still working on it, I'm trying to find a good preamp for it so i can use a microphone with it, I have built one, but it's too strong for the transmitters electronics so lot of it comes out clipped.

  • I figured it had to be something simple to fix. The circuit kinda reminds me of what they had in the Mr. Microphones sold in the Seventies--"HEY, GOOD-LOOKIN', WE'LL BE BACK TO PICK YA UP LATER!!" :-)

  • nice i want to make one ! can the world here it or just nabours ?

  • It would probably just reach the neibourghs house, one day i'm going to pull a prank on them, when they listen to the radio, i'm going to tune it to the frequncy they're listening to and say something like "this is God speaking and i am angry at you for havng your music on so loud", I'd love to see their reaction to that.

  • i wonder what the range of the transmitter is? would someone driving 5km away be able to pick up the signal in their car? or perhaps in their home?

  • I'm not sure how far it can go, i was testing it earler and it worked from 2 rooms away, but when i went downstairs i lost the signal, i should look into finding the right kind of antenna, then i'll prbably get it to transmit pretty far.

  • i'm not sure if there are still laws prohibiting unlicensed radio broadcasts but do be careful. i'd hate to find out that you've wound up being arrested or even thrown into prison for a pirate radio signal.

  • what are the parts that you need to make this?

  • I got most of the parts from maplin. it's amazing how few parts it needs, 3 capaictors (1nf, 22nf & 4.7 pf), 2 resistors (330ohm & 4.7 k ohm) a 5-65pf trimmer capacitor, a coil (6 to 8 turns of 0.5mm thick wire wound round a 6mm former(i used a screwdriver as the former)) and 1 npn transistor. of course an understanding of electronics is also a good thing to have, unless you already have it :-)

  • Glad you got it buddy!

  • Wow! That's amazing! And building a wireless microphone out of this is a great idea!

I'm happy you finally got it working!

  • I'll probably do another video about it soon, as I've added a microphone preamp to it now, the only problem is the preamp I made is way too strong, and it makes the transmitter clip terribly, i have to speak really quietly or far away rom the microphone.

  • I attenuation network with a few resistors might be a quick and easy solution...
