I first heard thtis story in another form. A man finds a snake in the desert and puts it in his bosom to hide it from hunters for a reward and when the hunters leave, the man asks for his reward and the snake answers, "Where shall I bite thee?" Then I heard it sung on "Northern Exposure" by Shelley. I finally found it on this site. Thank you. I love it and it should be heard by any woman who has had a snake in her life.
Great song with very suggestive lyrics based on the male Phallic symbol. I first heard it in 1967 by the Liverpool Five on the flip side of their " Anyway that You want me" RCA single. It's also on their " Out of Sight" Album and just found it on "The Best of the Liverpool Five" cd on Sundazed Records.Oscar Brown Jnr wrote the song and offered it first to the LP5. Al Wilson's version is still great.
You can't telll the sex of a snake until you bring it in to your home. It can be either male or female, The song fits either one.The rattler at least warns you first.
its an old indian poem if you watch natural born killers the indian explains it when he takes them in about the song ive done splits flips spins backdrops to the and its a bone crunsher but still a kick ass song ktf
Can anyone find any information as to whether this track "The Snake" by Al Wilson is in the public domain (no copyright)? I wish to release a derivative work. If anyone knows any information, PLEASE contact me, or leave a message on here. Thank you.
Great video, well interpreted with graphics to further experience the song...and the moral of the story is: A snake is a snake and predator indeed, one that can not be trusted! Thanks for uploading, good job!
hey im 12, my dad was born in the really earyl 50's so he has many record players and 2 jukeboxes (not joking he has over 200 hunderd records) this is my favorite, I admit, I love metal, punk, emo, and hard rock but I still love the classics!
Yeah, it sure is. It also reminds me of an old Buddhist fable about a scorpion that betrayed and killed a tortoise as the tortoise was carrying him across a stream... as the tortoise was going down, he asked the scorpion why; the scorpion said that it is in my nature...
Al performed at the Fallbrook, Ca. fire benefit in November of '07 and stole the show.
His talent as a performer was awesome!
He brought people to their feet for a standing ovation after only several songs,
and extended his performance with an impromptu medley that brought the house down.
His "Weeping in the City" and "We're Gonna Need One Another" seem to apply for today's troubled world. His vibrant, uplifting, enthusiasm for life will be missed. May Heaven welcomes you back home, Al.
i first heard this song 35 years ago at wigan casino and it still sounds as good. thank you hwaj5300 for posting this and restoring my faith in human kind x

Listen and Learn--these lyrics should be REQUIRED READING for every Woman in the World

yeah, as if there isn't enough male-bashing in the world. Women can be devious "snakes" too ...

Most men are wonderful but there are some snakes among them.. A really smart girl learns how to "handle" the snake before she takes him home...
And you're 100 % right--some of the worlds most dangerous snakes wear lipstick, powder and paint..
