I personally enjoy driving in the winter. Just got to keep a cool head when the back end of the vehicle comes around on you. You don't have to be a good driver, just a smart driver.
@mooseling1 He probably was using Bridgestone Blizzaks. My dad works at the Tire Rack and tests these at indoor ice skating rinks. They have thousands of microscopic air bubbles all throughout each tire which act like mini suction cups. They also have micro fibers in them that bite the ice. They are so good, that with proper breaking you can make the squeal on ice. He has them on his BMW, and I was able to turn hard and break without slipping. You still need to know how to drive in the snow.
@RichieLT exactly.. in ice and snow its more driver skill than 2WD or a 4X4. Dont get me wrong, i have a 4X4 and it makes everything much easier in snow but if you cant drive in snow or on ice you will crash or get stuck just the same.

@RichieLT exactly.. in ice and snow its more driver skill than 2WD or a 4X4. Dont get me wrong, i have a 4X4 and it makes everything much easier in snow but if you cant drive in snow or on ice you will crash or get stuck just the same.

@mooseling1 its because everyone here that fucks it up end up braking quite hard on the Ice.
This'll bring the back end around and cause them to crash. The mini was fine as he carried on going in a straight line and didn't lock up his brakes.

@mooseling1 it's a smaller car. and the mini driver didn't slam on the brakes like the SUV dudes. speed + mass - grip = trip to the bodyshop If you are on ice don't jerk sthe steering and dont slam the brakes (unless you got some hi-tech brake system that compensates) , just let it roll in a lower gear.

Learning to fucking drive is a better way of dealing with ice than buying some huge ass 4WD. 0:30 is a great example of someone who hasn't got a clue at all but thinks that having a 4WD somehow makes them magically immune to road conditions. Its basic physics really, if you want to turn then don't do other stuff that will reduce effective friction at the same time.

@mooseling1 That's because the driver must have known how to drive on the ice. Most people panic and jam the brakes on, the driver of the Mini didn't brake, not for long anyway so the wheels didn't have a chance to slide.
