While the 6.8 isn't much larger than the 5.56, the weight is significantly greater. Therefore it's more accurate and more kinetic energy is transferred. The 6.8 is perfect minus the higher price and it's hard to find bulk deals. With a 10.3" competition grade barrel I was able to get 2" groupings at 400 yards with an LWRCI M6A2 using a Trijicon ACOG (4x32). Using the same ammo here (mine were JHP though).
@csxconductor100 ok let me backtrack. in the 20 or so deer i've killed with the two calibers, repectively, the 223 with the right bullet is just as deadly as the 6.8. your results may vary. :). now, my 30-06 is still my fave (65 deer and counting)
Spearo92 I wasn't saying a .223 isn't big enough to kill a deer, I know it can if you have good placement but its not a legal deer hunting rifle in most states.
I think the 6.5 Grendel is better.. Alexander Arms just gave up their trademark right last month so ammo will be more available in the future.. Just my 2 cents..
@JPEBeard It's not just your opinion man, 6.5 is simply better than 6.8spc. It can really reach out and touch something like no current battle rifle cartridge can, and yet it's smaller.
Richard Vinola is an outward 5.56 hater and dogs it out every chance he gets. He says this new .277 round is so reliable because of it's tapered case unlike the straight wall case of the 5.56 that just grinds away in a dirty chamber. Well we all saw how that worked out...MALFUNCTION. Eat your words Richard. What do expect from a jackhole that proclaims the 7.62x39 (ak47 round) to be the best round ever invented. Gimme a break. Credability "0" IMO after that statement. Keep your advise "DICK".
Neither, its a 6.8 Special Purpose Cartridge (SPC) which is equivalent to .277 and is large enough for deer hunting in most states unlike the .223/ 5.56.
@jsc7002jeep i've killed deer with an m14 in .223/5.56mm all about shot placement...hell i know people have killed deer with .204s .22s .17hmrs not to say any of those are deer rifles but .223 is plenty to kill a deer if u hit em good
They left the footage of the malfunction .. What are they doing ? I sure don't want one now! My 20 year old ar15 never fucks up. That thing jammed on a advertisement :-P wow . Not good sales
Twienke mid range is basically 300yrd max for deer 5-600max kill potential for military use .As opposed to short range like a pistol or 30-30 and long range like a .308, 30-06 .338 Lapua, etc.
@1fast10r, you probably have a SPC II chamber with the 1:11twist. It is much faster & less chamber pressure than a SAAMI SPC with a 1:10 twist.Like you said "long barrel performance in a shorter barrel."
Twienke. Talkinging midrange like a 30-06 with this round. It's pretty capable especially if you have it chambered in a 24inch barrel. I have it in a 20inch barrel on my ar-15 and it does an avg of 2715fps you'll get 2800 and change out of the 24' barrell tho. But anyways you can shoot 500yards with it if you know what your doing.
@1fast10r my SPC has a 16 inch with a 1:11 twist which is allowing for 2800+, with the SPC chamber instead of sammi and a faster twist, that allows for a shorter barrel with long barrel performance. I was using mine while contracting in the middle east and it was far superior than my battle buddies 1:10 twist in sammi
@JETTYDARIDER That might have something to do with why they are always starving and needing the white man to give them a hand out. But then again they have little to no money. All economies in Africa are very limited in respect to the rest of the world. Even SA has gone down the tubes after apartheid was lifted. I remember pictures of the Ebu wars with Africans holding up animal hide shields firing Thompson sub machine guns. I don't think they really fully grasped the concept.
@45187299 the only thing the white man can ever hand out is his material wealth which is his god.
african tribes survived thousands of years without a white man handing out anything. in fact. they built the pyramids. and to top it off.. the africans knew about the solar system thousands of years before the white man even knew the earth was round.
@JETTYDARIDER I think you are confused between Arabs and Africans. Yes it is true Arabs are living in North Africa but that is because they drove off the Africans that were living there a long time ago. You are just a racist using a gift from the white man, the internet, to spread your racist ideas. Yes Africans have been around for thousands of years, maybe even millions but they have never built anything like a city, or the pyramids. That is why they are uncivilized.
Hornady's 110gr VMAX is an awesome cartridge. I have a hard time deciding between the VMAX and SSA's 110gr Nosler Accubond in tactical load. SSA now has their new 115gr OTM I wanna try. Either choice is outstanding in dependability, accuracy and one shot knock down ability. SSA might be a bit more in price, but they run good offers and they go bang every time. You can't go wrong either way.
A dollar a round is relatively cheap in comparison to other popular deer rounds. I love my 6.8 spc especially when I'm shooting TSX bullets. I shot a six point with it this past season and have nothing but praise for this round.
Totally unfamiliar with the 6.8. When they say mid range cartridge, I know Boddington likes .375 H&H mag sometimes so are we talking mid range like a 30-30 or mid range like a .270?
im excited for this years season. I just purchased my first AR (stag arms model 5L) and i cant wait to see how it performs. what grain bullet would you recommend for hunting deer?
yep. its a 6.8. i just bought 10 boxes of remington 115 grain. It groups much better at longer distances than I previously thought possibe with a semi.

"Big on reliability." Quite humorous when the weapon system in question malfunctions 0:45 seconds into the video.

is there any sniper rifles that can hold this cartridge?

With the limited performance of this round it wouldn't make sense to use as a long range precision round.
