Goku, aka the Monkey King, is a famous figure in Chinese lore, so he's used a lot. So that's the reason why you see his name and staff used a lot. I understand your confusion, but this is not copying Dbz.

If you guys are wondering why Goku is so much like the guy from Dragon Ball, you should know that it is because both shows are a rip off of a much older, cooler Chinese story.

The original Journey West story's main character is a monkey named Sun Wu Kong (Don't ask me why the Japanese changed it to Son Goku), he traveled with a monk and two companions and fought with a magic staff (The Jin Gong Ban)

I have an old Sun Wu Kong movie and he was my hero when I was younger.

If you read the manga it will tell you that Goku from Saiyuki is the same Goku from DBZ and theres also stories called Journey to the West which originally have a pig, a monkey and a water sprit traveling together with a monk. Oh theres also an episode of Inuyasha thats based of the Journey to the West its when Kagome gets kidnapped by a giant Pig along with a monkey and a water sprit who take kagome to be the pigs bride
