  • fencing sucks because it's always 1 vs 1...

  • Man I'm 16 and pretty athletic... We're doing fencing in gym next week and I'm so pumped, but the videos on youtube look odd.

The swords look flimsy, how the fuck are you supposed to parry?

I was watching some world champion sabre bouts on youtube and they were just lunging at each other, haha. Can I simply beat people because of my long reach? Or would they be able to knock my flimsy sword out of the way easily? Could I put enough authority behind it to make definite that it will land?

  • Sword fighting is definitely the best sport in the world because it simulates death and it's a sport of focusing on tagging you're target without being touched by you're opponent most simplistic form of combat ever.

  • That little girl at 2:56, lol she's right on top of it man. "KILLING PEOPLE!"

  • bruce lee connected many fighting styles..fencing stance too

  • I fenced for a decent number of years when I was in middle school and high school, thinking about getting back into it in college... I remember the only thing I was looking forward to was being able to fence saber, but once I got invited to the advanced classes I just wanted to stay with foil. =P

  • Cool vid, and fencing ROCKS!!!! about to get back into it after a month off and it's been too long without it already!!

  • Hey, Ashland! :D I really want to move there.

I'm a fencer up in Old Vancouver. I used to take classes all the time in Portland. This is a cool introduction video.

  • I've been fencing epee for six and a half years and I still love it!

I'm really intrested in trying foil but the problem is that in Finland the most common weapon is epee and it's really hard to find competitions to attend to in foil, and then only clubs that you could train with foil is in the northern finland : /,

    Fencing!!! \o/

  • Fencing Sabre is soo much fun! I LOVE fencing..So what is Sabre is /A little bit/ more painful?!....xP

  • i've been a foil fencer for about a year now, but im thinking about making the switch to sabre. sabre looks more upbeat, and fun! :)

  • I just begin the foil. It's difficult, I'm perhaps too old but I love it !!

Thanks to my master who teaches me and makes me like this art...

  • -D----------------

  • I might start, I'm already in MEIBUKAN Karate anyone think I'd be good at it?

  • I almost went in to fencing a while ago.. But the cost of lessons and having to wear tights made me change my mind.

Now I'm in kendo =D I'd really like to fight a fencer though... It'd be interesting.

  • You don't have to wear tights.

  • You people are all crazy.

You shouldn't be arguin over weapons; they all add something to the sport.

Instead, you should be proving the people who call our sport worthless wrong.

  • Epee is intence, everything is a target area. Foil gets old because its a begginers game

  • BS! Foil is faster than epee making it sooo much more intense! Saber is just too wild, epee is too slow and boring, and just because most people start with foil doesnt mean its a beginners sport!!

  • lol. im a foil too and u are right. but sabre looks fun, but it also looks like it hurts and ppl tell me it does lol..

  • Epee is not boring because it is slow!

I bet if you fence epee, you will be pieing in your pants because you are scared and you will lose ! so shut the f#%$ up about that epee and sabre are boring and stupid.n

  • foil is the starter weapon, but once u get really good at it and play against really good people foil is by far the most intence sword because the target area is the smallest and its a game of who can basically fool the other.

  • This sport is definitely intense ^_^ but at my school, the warm ups are intense x_x i hate them so much. they make me all knot-up and sore.

  • lol I love fencing... I love foil best cos i recon it is the most skillful by a longshot... epee for oldies sabre for alex o'connel lol (world num.1)

  • very true :P

  • I started 3-4 weeks ago, and i'm 19...The club says i'm already showing some natural speed and aggression that's necessary for foil fencing :p

And yeah, i love this sport, i don't know why i didn't take it up earlier!!!

  • I'm 15 and I would like to start fencing, I've always thought it was so cool. Now I want to learn! Do I just join a local lesson or what? Is it really not too late to learn??

  • My mom signed herself up with me to learn fencing and she's 42!!!!

  • totally agreed fencing rules

  • I'm fencing for about... week :D but I arleady loved it! i'm 14 and i'm scared that i'm a bit too old for that ;[

  • I take fencing and its really fun bet my classes are 4 1/2 hours a day so you get pretty beak up and bruised. I did today. My arm is still covered in red marks from when we were practicing with our gloves and no gear.

  • how much do fencing lessons cost usually? i really want to learn, but it has to be in the budget. does anyone recommend just attempting to learn online from the free vids?

  • NO. You have to find a coach. Online videos are good for familiarization, but a good fencing book is better. Try to find a club near you, and you will have to fence people to learn; your technique has to be drilled into you.

  • Does anyone know where to watch the olimpic fencing matches online??? They´re never on TV!!

  • dude i'm 15 & i just saw an ad in the community college book for fencing training and I thought about it but I think I'm too late to start. idk

  • I started when I was 20. You're never too late to start. I know of people who started fencing in their 60s.

  • I started when i was 16.

I know everyone's dream is to go to a Olympic Game, well as fencer you don't need to be very young.

I know people who's 40 years old and went to Athenes 2004 and Beijing 2008.

It's up to you, train very hard, give your best, and you'll become a good fencer.

  • im 13 and im thinking of taking fencing classes(if i can find one in lewiston maine)

  • brotherjames 10, im 11 and im going to do fencing, but the good thing about it is it doesn't matter what hight you are. If your good to could problr beat 15 year olds.

  • BATES FENCING CLUB is in Lewiston Maine. and yeah im only 14 and ive been fencing for 4 months and can beat kids much bigger than me. also ur coach will give u a sword that is good for ur height.

  • would Foil vs sabre ...be like Kendo Vs sabre?...I love Epee, And Sabre...but love the SPEED of foil =)

  • You have good taste. Fencing IS the best sport ever.

  • I second that.

  • i want to learn!! but i might be late.. i'm 15.. ugh

  • there is no late. initiate waht you want to do

  • I started at 16 ... Best thing I have ever done ;)

  • no i am 13 (and strted in febuary) and i know someone who started at like 60

  • I started at 15, it has been nearly a year, there is a kid in our class that is 10

  • my coach is 3x olympic champ and 2x world champ and ur right fencing is really the best sport ever and dont matter about the sign up i was 7 when i signed up and now im 17 and i dont end with the fencing

  • I'm 11 too! and i want to learn how to fence!!! were like twins!!

  • most fencing clubs will accept pretty much any person of most ages

  • hey where can i sighn up for this? but i'm 11 =,[

  • in ashland. i don't remember how to sign up though.i guess you could just call them. they're listed under southern oregon fencing center/

  • not any more they moved. johns the best.

  • usually at a martial arts center. Give your local martial arts center a call, if they don't have the program ask them if they know anyone how does offer fencing.

  • I've got this awesome coach! He's in his 70's and has taught people who have won the award for the, like, all around best fencer in the US award! Yeah! It's awesome!

  • drills are good, but they dont apply those skills in actual bouts.

  • i think this is a beggining class and i feel pround of myself becuase my coach is the 3rd best ranked fencer in the U.S. (mike cho)but beside the point fencing is the best.

  • Cool video... it shows exactly why I like this sport so much. Do you only use french grips?

  • depends... i've seen a lot of other kinds at fencing too

  • easly!!!

    btw sabre all the way!!!!

  • I'm getting back into fencing this monday. It's, in my opinion, one of the greatest sports ever invented. By the way, this was a terrific video! 5 stars and favorited :)

  • maybe I'm doing something wrong but I have gained a reputation for fighting like a pirate and I've managed to break 3 foils in under a week

  • you're probably just parrying too hard.but pirate fencing is FUN!!! it's DA BOMB!

  • fencing is a gentalmans/gentalwomans sport. you need to use lighter hits. my advice, if you like to hit hard, try broadswords.

  • I LOVE FENCING SOOOO MUCH!!!! and yay for us lefys!=D

  • hmmm if im not mistaken there is only one or 2 lefty in the class lol im retarded so idk hola! haha mayb i should do fencing next yr...jk lol im a basketball chick but fencing is def a kik ass sport ;)

  • I'm joining a Fencing class how is it

  • i fenced for 5 years and its bloody hard

  • you are sow right, Even if you learn everything there's always stuff to inprove on. plus you never know what someones going to do. It's like a game of physical chess

  • ive been fencing for a year and I love it! Fencing rocks!

  • Omg I've competed against some of those people. I wish my salle d'armes would make a video! Go Oregon fencers!

  • they are crap fencers!!! i could beat them easyily!! all they are doing is going:

    lunge...parry the lunge...lung..step back...parry

  • True fencers don't complain about their opponent. If you're going to brag and call others bad you might as well quit or grow up at the very least.

  • ok i am 11 - so no i cnt grow up right yet - that dusnt mean i am good it means i could beat them - and i get a say aswel - and i think since i get bullied everyday so i think occassionally i get to be a bit big headed - no one even cared when i wun th national championships. so acctually - u should be the one that quits. also i wasn't complaining about oponent - i would beat them or they would beat me. and i believe eeryone can become good; im not saying they wont

  • Sorry, look i didn't mean to get so up tight. I just hate it when people brag (even when i do it). No one cared? Harsh, I'm 16 and was bullied in school at your age so i know what you mean, and just because i am a newbie at fencing doesn't mean i'll quit because some 11 year old national champion, if thats even true, says i should.

  • it is my name is ellie cormack - u can check- aand i didn't say u should quit..

  • You really shouldn't tell people your name online.

  • yh but i ain't stupid enough to put personal details about me online or anything

  • I agree!

This kid at my fencing group, every time he fences with every one, and he gets an off target, he goes like "WTF!" and then it usually take more than 5 minutes... -.-

  • nice, I used to be a pro fencer, but quit so i could concentrate on school and Uni. Nice to see people take an interest in it.

  • they have awesome form!!! FENCING RULES!!! WOOOO:)

  • Cool! Where is your Fencing studio? I am thinking about fencing after Tae Kwon Do.

  • Oregon!

  • this is nothing like tae kwon do its a proper sport
