  • A tdi with a turbo.. who would of guessed. Haha

  • Sounds so SEXY!!! I Want to make out with the exhaust, except it will fry my lips off.

    :( oh well

  • what is the diameter of the exhaust piping?

  • amazing video man was the system expensive

  • don't listen to the haters, your car sounds awesome. i'd like a jetta tdi with a straight pipe.

  • Sounds nice man, I love the whistle

  • It sounds smooth to me, The little tdi is pretty quiet for a car with no muffler. lets see a gasser do that. Also it is going to be a very inexpensive exhaust system to upkeep :-)

  • Sounds like a transit...

  • that sounds awesome. I wish you could get the sound of an old diesel engine like on a 300d or trucks though.

  • Woah, it does kind of sound like a Veyron haha,

do you know if you didn't have TDI if it would sound

as good? Either way awesome vid man =D

  • what ever s2000 cant get the mpg as the TDI ...choke on that honda

  • Great sound man.

  • I would rather start with a cheap 90hp car and build it to make 150hp myself instead of buying a car with all the tuning done. To each his own. I bet you can pick up some hot guys in an S2000 though, if you're into that scene.

  • sounds like a little john deere tractor

  • its true

  • His reason for posting this video was for the turbo whistle not to compare a $1.5 million car to a bug.

  • What does the 17/52 sound like? I want the hammerhead sv for my passat so I can have a general idea. BTW how in the hell can you compare a 1.9 TDI (4000rpm) to an F20 that revs 9 grand. Come on, if you want I'll run you with my dads Carrera GT. Thats the kind of comparison that was implied. S2000 are nice tho.

  • My ride sounds with a lower tone from the turbo's whistle (most likely a truck), but is louder than yours... obviously a 2.4T with 3" cutout and TD04L turbo makes it louder. Good video mate.

  • Thats the stock turbo right cause my car used to do that until i got the vnt-17/52

  • Yessir. What does it sound like now after the 17/52?

  • my old passat TDI had that same turbo sound than yours, it's cool in fact, but damn the car was too slow

  • You realize this is a Diesel right? The purpose of which isn't for performance but economy. Do you know what diesel is or are you afraid of it like every other ignorant "gasser."

  • @iBlake also, you realize that VW is not designed for speed in any case...Audi is the performance VW

  • @iBlake what? you clearly dont know what you talking about... who won lemans 2011 and with what?

  • @haraldb89 Context, my friend; I was referring to the 1.9L TDI. Did it win Lemans? The purpose of the 1.9L TDI is economy (Stock: 90HP, 150lbs/trq). While it can be modified to perform very well (like mine, now), it was never intended to be a racer. Context is everything. If I was speaking for every diesel engine ever made, then perhaps I would have said so, but when responding to a comment about my 1.9L TDI, I thought some things could go without saying.

  • Apparently you have a Z24 Cavalier lol, not an s2000. Don't be so Cavalier about making claims.

  • @tomz24cavi really line up in what? i tell you what vws are faster than you thik go line up to a r32 and see what happens better yet a vr6, have fun, ontop of that if your car has a shit ton of work done to it then duh but run it stock and you will get moped up.

  • @tomz24cavi I smoked a Z24 cavalier in my very fist VW. It was a 1.8 liter automatic Jetta. The cavi was a v-6 5 speed.

  • sweet sound... i've been trying to find a decently priced used vw tdi -- by that I mean that I do not want to pay more than the car was worth when new...

  • holy crap they sound the same

  • hehe maaaaaaybe..

  • That...is a nice sound man

  • So did you join yesterday just to comment on my video?

  • @lolskates123 ya their a huge price difference jackass

  • @lolskates123

Haha why are you comparing this thing to a supercar?

  • Is that wistle from the exhaust or does it have turbo?

  • It's from the turbo :)

TDI stands for Turbo Direct-Injection which is usually only seen on diesel engines, save for two gas engines; VW's 2.0FSI and BMW's 35i Engines (335i, 535i) which are both direct-injection.

  • Retard, every VW TDI is a turbo. He also says "Turbo-back" God damn, that couldn't mean it has a turbo could it?

  • um yea Corky, turbo-back straight pipe means that from the turbo back the pipe is straight, well at least for the most part... and you, a beetle response to a veyron?? c'mon, no comparision

  • what? you said you removed the cat Diesels don't have cats

  • Haha, you've been misinformed my friend, diesels most definitely have Catalytic Converters ;)

  • Yes they do...

  • no offence man that sounded good but you posted a VW beetle as a responce to a Bugatti Veyron

  • Yeah, I posted it cause I thought they sounded similar and I found that humorous, they have the same exhaust "burble" and if you think about it they're almost opposites in form and function :)

  • oh yeh i see what you mean lol true, low rev noise is quite similar

  • Hahhahahhaahaaaa .... oh christ... haahahaa

  • Chea i just took the mufflers of my 1984 mercedes turbo diesel. Sounds SO much more meaty than this vw

  • Try getting true sound on with YouTube video quality, the bass goes out. This video is more for the turbo whistle. In-gear the low end grumble on this thing is nice. Some guy asked me if I had a V8 in it the other day, I just laughed and told him it was a diesel.

  • Yea dude the more i drive my car withouyt the mufflers the more i love the sound! IUts crazy though. When your at a stop light and pull off people are like wtf from that car? Becuase it sounds like a big ass duramax or something. With these turbo diesels though their just loud enough to be awesome but not loud enough to be like "crap im so getting pulled over"

  • Yeah, I know what you mean. I live in a Southern California college town where there are a lot of imports like WRX's, 240's and Type-R's so it's nice to have something so unique and it definitely turns heads.

  • Nice...

  • Can you actually take off the muffler and the catalytic converter without causing problems? I have a 1998 VW TDI Beetle and I want to bring out the sound of the engine and the turbo more. I just want to take off the muffler, will that cause any problems or sacrifice anything that I am not aware of?

  • I would recommend you check out TDIClub (dot com) You can learn about performance as well as maintenance and economy. It's a great resource and you'll be glad you joined.

As far as removing your muffler, it won't hurt anything. You must be aware of your local laws, however, because if you live in an area where you have annual vehicle inspections you won't pass without a muffler.

  • I live in an area where almost all pick-ups have no mufflers, so the laws won't be an issue here. But thanks for the info!

  • sounds like a lawn mower

  • I've never heard any turbodiesel lawnmowers with mufflers removed. And no, it does not sound like a small gas engine. It sounds like a big turbodiesel without a muffler.

  • The sound of turbo is awesome! Is it because of that downpipe?

  • Well technically the downpipe is stock. The sound is different because I took off the Catalytic Converter and the Muffler, so there is nothing to muffle the sound from the Turbo all the way back; it's just a straight pipe.

  • Tdi Power baby!

  • LOL THE SAME OF BUGATTI !!! GREAT!

  • nice i have a 2000 TDI beetle i got rid of the exhaust few years back and have been wanted to get rid of the cat.. has it caused the MIL light to come on?

  • What a cute little commuter, LOL

  • its a shame it revs to like 1.5 grand... lol. (dont take that serisiouly) if all i were was about power than i woudlent mind but i love high reving cars (S2000 like my 05 silverstone with red and black interior)

  • high reving is nice, one of my mates has a 2003 s2000 its unreal they rev like a motorbike, but you know these things only have 153ft/lbf!

my golf gt tdi has 150 bhp and torque is well over 200. ive left the s2000 at the lights many times. and i get 50mpg also!!

  • well my s2000 put 229 to the wheels in 81 degree weather... with 161 ft lbs of torque... and the tires im running pick up like crazy... i dont think i would run on me... it would be interesting tho. and if it did, id respect that car. i run a 13.8 constantly. 13.1 on slciks

  • not to mention the s2000 isnt a straight line car... at all.

  • The s2000 is designed for the curves, but its not shabby in a straight line either. The mazda mx5, on the other hand, is strictly a "handling" car, where as the s2000 does both pretty well

  • I have a 2000 Jetta TDI. I have cut off the muffler off and left the catalytic on. my question is if I cut the catalytic off will the car stel run good ?

  • It'll run better.

  • I've got a 2003 S2000 too - and if you actually read the literature, it has 158 pound feet of torque. Laugh at that all you want - try to make your diesel got 0-60 in 5.1seconds. Then again, the point of a diesel is economy, so I don't know why people are talking about this

  • My gold Gt tdi, would stuff a s2000. and if thats marginal, then my escort cosworth will definalty put it to shame!lol

cant believe people are so pent up on arguing. funny tho.

  • I think a stock TDI is rated in the 7's for 0-60. So... add a chip, a bigger/free-flowing exhaust and intake, and turn up the injection pump you can probably push high 5's. And if you go bigger turbo and injectors I'm sure it could go in 5. All while still getting twice as many mpg as an S2000.

  • So you buy cars based on 0-60 time? 5.1 seconds! You're my hero.

  • booooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

  • oh really? tell us more...

  • listen to that little diesel growl!

i love the turbo too. can you hear it that much from all around the car or just right next to the pipe?

  • The turbo can be heard from a block away, its fantastic :)

  • Very cool!

I am getting an TDI from a 2001 Beetle put in to a 1982 VW Caddy!

    Can't wait!

    Hans
