  • When David took this role he knew next to nothing about Martial Arts.....but as one door closes another opens.....Bruce became legendary despite the Warner decision to go with David......David became a good Martial artists to the extent that Kam Yeun became his Sigung.......This series impacted my then young life to a great degree philosophically for which I will be eternally grateful

  • @MrDewy67 So sad...

  • @MrDewy67 So sad...

  • Love it.

  • Do you know the composer of this great music?

  • thx David, God keep you in the glory!!....for ever L.C.I

  • Do not write a comment offensive, thank you.

  • happy new year young grass hoppers ;)

  • Yes, Bruce was pretty awesome at what he did for sure, but David was so believable a serene man. I still watch the Kunfu series to this day.

  • What a waste,how sickening.He didnt have to die like this,Bull shit.

  • rip Kung fu David Carradine

  • I'm glad David Carradine was in Kung Fu. Bruce Lee was an arrogant, unlikeable little man. Lee was not a good actor either.

  • @TakeAShowerStinky Bruce was as good an actor as any I've seen

  • @mysterymediacorp. Bruce Lee was a trouble maker. Never liked him.

David Carradine did an outstanding job in Kung Fu. Keep Kaito far away.

  • @TakeAShowerStinky who did he make trouble for ? no one knew but you

  • @TakeAShowerStinky Bruce Lee was da best .

  • @TakeAShowerStinky Bruce Lee was very arrogant and I was telling my wife the other day that he would have taken away the depth of character that David brought to the movie. I could just see Bruce's face trying to act all peaceful. I've watched him explain his Tao like thoughts and saw how arrogant he was. Thank GOD that he wasn't allowed to act take David's place in the movie! He would have made fighting the more important aspect, not compassion and caring which is what we really needed to see.

  • @qualitydag1. Complete agree. Plus, the show would have been canceled after three episodes. Rick Shaw Boy Bruce Lee was a fighter not an actor. Good riddance to Bruce Lee and his LOSER supporters!

  • @qualitydag1 Pfffft mwahahaha gayer

  • @qualitydag1

I agree with you. As much as Bruce Lee contributed to martial arts, he would not have been suitable for the role. And as someone who has practiced both traditional styles and styles for cage fighting, I can honestly say that Carradine gave his character a serenity and depth Lee would not have conveyed---it would have been too intense, not as nuanced. Even Carradine's performance of Bill in Kill Bill was multi-dimensional.

    RIP, Grasshopper.

  • The only american movie TV i like very much...

    For eternity David.

    From France :-)

  • I USED TO LOVE THIS SHOW !!!!!

  • Kung Fu is the essence. The true path. Even Buddha knows that.

  • Who is going to answer the questions then?

  • I remember as young boy around the early and late 70's this was the only Martial Art T.V. series that reflect Shoalin Kung Fu.This was Bruce lee's Idea unfortunate we all know the story behind that.Will.. stop crying over spilled milk. Both become Icon that reflects Kung Fu/shoalin.Rest In Peace.Grasshopper and The Dragon.

  • Thanks David, Rest in Peace.

  • David Carradine was one of the great actors of all time,my prayers and thoughts go to his family, kung fu was a great tv show,as was Kung fu the legend cotinues.

  • Thank You.

  • he gave a lot-did good....

  • RIP, Respect

  • Does anyone here remember the episode where Kane fights Ah Kwon(forgive the spelling)? A sub plot was a guy named Chen who was after a child Kane was protecting. He attacked Kane and he "plucked Chen's hatchet from the air. Ah Kwon was a feared killer and he shoots Kane in the back with a bow & arrow. I sure somebody can get and post that episode.

  • @in2food "The Tong" is a particular favorite; the episode is available on this site.

It's just a brilliant piece. Notice that Ah Kwon is played by the same actor who opened up the temple gate for the boys in the opening sequence for the pilot..

  • esta es una de las mejores series que han hecho en television

  • maxredd222: Lee was passed over for the role because the Caine character was supposed to be only half Chinese.

  • @gildone84 ...no, that is incorrect. The studio suits adjusted the background story so they could explain why the main character did not look Chinese. Back in 1970's it was not felt that the American audience would not so easily accept a Asian actor as the main character of a American TV show.

  • we are from Brazil in south america and we just loved this tv series from down here .., we will never forget you david you were the best ever...

  • This means so much to me.

  • Loved Kung Fu the TV series as a kid me and my dad would watch it . RIP David Carrdain you brought ever lasting memories

  • I completely concur with a number of the comments here. I loved this show, and also found a sense of spirituality and personal values in it that I never forgot. I went on in my life to become a language professor and successful Japanese/Korean translator, living and travelling for many years in Asia--this show affected the decisions that led to the life I have come to live. Thanks to David Carradine for the impact he had on so many of us growing up in the 70s.

  • SCARAMUSSA CAMPINAS - BRAZIL

Thanks David Carradine gave me what I carry to this day, along with a lot of nostalgia ..

Stay in PEACE. One day we will meet for me to thank the joy and wisdom that I received.

  • According to Carradine.......the original screenplay of Kung Fu, was written by a caucasian guy in New York who fantasized about being allowed (as a white person) to join a Chinese Monastery to be taught Kung Fu. Now...if that's the truth, then Bruce Lee would certainly be passed over for the starring role....yes.....because of his race (but not because of racism).

  • @maxred222 I agree. Plus the show's emphasis was more on dialog than combat scenes, and therefore not really playing to Bruce Lee's strengths. (I like Bruce Lee by the way - I'm not putting him down - just acknowledging that his acting range was arguably limited to the aforementioned combat scenes.)

  • those are legends i hawe watced intervies with executive producers and other hollywood celebrities when they disgus these issue and it iss so well known ewen in holly wood that ho a dancer got a role that was created for bruce to play there is nothing to disguss it it is so well known fakt that in holly wood there is no doubt in movie bizn peoples mind how the story goes and belive me they know that better peace

  • @maxred222 ...now this is a new story about the origin of the show I haven't heard before. May I ask what the source of this story is? Where did you read this?

  • Besides the brilliant performance by Carridine, I think homage should also be paid to Ed Spielman, the creator of the series, Jerry Thorpe, who directed and produced and Herman Miller who wrote and co-produced and developed the series.

  • This television show was popular when I was a young and still in high school. This show had a great deal of influence in prompting me to look for the spiritual in everything around me and in all my activities. I'll always have this memory from this unique television series.

  • Mr Skytroop

Bruce Lee was not a good actor.

He was best known for his talent and sports writer.

  • @molusk77 ...sports writer? I have not read anything referring to Bruce as a sports writer. In what way?

  • @molusk77 bruce lee was a great actor, he was an actor first, before he even thought about pursuing martial arts.

  • @IrishCinema7 you're absolutely right ;)

  • @IrishCinema7 schawtzeneger was an actor first before he even thought about to be an governor.... and he never was good in none of both ahahaha

I'm pretty sure that Bruce Lee was an incredible martial art's fighter but i think that we cannot say that he has the same talent for acting

  • @IrishCinema7 Bruce lee taught kung fu to a friend of mine who arrested 30 people in a riot he taught me, a classmate told me about a tv show where a man has to carry hot coals i didnt know what he was talking about then i watched kung fu

  • @IrishCinema7

That might not bode well with die hard Lee fans, but you do have a point.

There's a lot of talk about how good Lee would do in the cage/mat/Dojo and on the street because most of the tales spread around are largely conversation, not much *actual* fighting video outside of film itself. As good as Lee presented himself in the movies, the fact remains that how amazing he was of a fighter is still speculation outside of accounts and word of mouth.

  • @Wytchfinde Agreed. Bruce was a good actor (who could have developed into a great actor if given the time) and was very good at portraying martial arts and choreography. But there's the difference between cinema and sports: if I watch a movie, I'd like to watch an actor not a fighter - if I want to see a fighter, I go watch them in the ring.

The opposite goes for Chuck Norris - great martial artists (40 years ago) but on screen: mostly unwatchable!

  • @IrishCinema7

    That's RIGHT!!!!

  • Fact: the Kung Fu series concept was created by Bruce Lee who was passed up for the lead part due to his race. David Caradine who possessed no talent as a martial artist got the part as a half Chinese/half Occidental because the producers felt this would hold more commercial potential. Result: a mere joke compared to what the series was first intended to be by its creator,...Mr Lee.

  • Thank you David for being Caine. You will be missed.

  • It was a very smart idea of the producers to send a spiritual message through a western set up. Kuang Chaing search for his brother was the search for himself. The story inspired me to look for balance, harmony and wisdom...

  • Thank you for saving me in my youth. you gave me hope, you gave me the truth. Thank you. R.I.P.

  • thank you Mr David Carradine. from Ecuador throught Belgium ....an Eternal souvenir of Wisdom! R.I.P.

  • me encanta esta b.s.o

  • ı wont forget thıs days(ne guzel anılar dı )

  • I hearth this music in an old Turkish movie. The star character's brother was dieing while playing this music. It was very touchy.

  • Thank you Mister Carradine for having incarnated perfectly one of the most beautiful, wise and human characters ever in a TV series.

  • the path he took is known by him, not by those who judge him with the limited information they possess.

  • Well put. I choose to celebrate his life and art

  • pretty idiotic comment.

  • Tribute -Part Three

David Carradine - Icon , Actor ,Musician , Philosopher & Poet.

A true Icon of our times....

I choose to remember him for how he has lived 1000 colourful lives and the way some of these lives have positively influenced mine.

May the spirits of these 5 Icons always be brothers in eternity !!!!!!!!!!

  • Tribute -Part One

David Carradine - Icon , Actor ,Musician , Philosopher & Poet.

David often courted controversy during his life and so it is now also in death.

For myself , a child of the 70's , Kwai Chang Caine was my first appreciation of David through the magnificence of that particular role and its influence on a whole generation.

However ,in life , David was definitely far more complex than his portrayal of the Shaolin Priest.

  • it is so very sad.

  • That's a beautiful picture of him.

  • Sad... we'll miss you Kwai Chang Caine. I've only watched his Kung Fu movie two years ago.

  • I feel sorry for the guy, but his CV of movies over the past year look very ominous::::::

    Hell Ride

    Son of the Dragon

    Last Hour

    Death Race

    My Suicide

    Absolute Evil

    !!!!!

No kidding, just look at his filmography on Wikipedia.

    Weird or what???

  • For all te crappy movies he made ,his work in the original Kung Fu tv series(not the crappy90's remake) was one of the best performances in tv.All you kids out there, get the dvd's of the original series;it's something special;philosophy, great actors, great writing, and always a little martial arts kickass at the end. Only quality Kung Fu entertainment ever done.

  • One of the best shows of all time. Very Spock-like for all you trekkies. The entire series is available free at:

    surfthechannel(.)com

providing you have good pop-up/virus protection.

  • He got the pebble from his masters hand. I have read some who made fun of Kung Fu, but for it's day it was new, and a peaceful change of pace to the regular fare of shoot em up shows. Carradine will always be cool to me.

  • REST IN PEACE LITTLE GRASSHOPPER

  • RIP

  • Thank you David for your contributions to Humanity and my personal path as well.

Goodbye David I hope you are where ever you want to be now. And thank you molusk77 for uploading this.

  • RIP :'(

  • Sad sad news I'm in shock and very very upset to hear the news of Davids passing. He was never meant to live in these times and should really have been the character he played in Kung Fu.
