  • Great video. I wonder if that viaduct was built with todays technology how much it would cost. £50million?

  • I dread to think what it'd cost now, think you can't be to far wrong at £50 million??

  • @cyanspeaker New Forth Bridge (can't remember if it's road or rail) is pledged at £600m... Nae good!

  • It's to be a road bridge, from what i've seen.

  • Its a great place, but take it from me, it isn't any fun walking from Ribblehead Station to Blea Moor tunnel in the winter... Cold just isn't the right word...

  • @yngp7 Yes very much so, been up here during some past winters........BBBBRRRRRR!!!!!!! Out with the hot flask of tea me thinks. Cheers.

  • why cant they double track the viaduct?

  • @basfordhall It was at one time, must be down to structural reasons as to why they singled it??

  • @ay76 was it a good walk?when are they doing it again

  • @basfordhall It was good walk, if a bit on the old wet side. As far as we know, it may be the last one for a good while to come?? Check the friends of the S&C website for more details.Regards.

  • how come uz got to walk accros i was there last year sight seein in england great location 4 trainspotting in nice weather 5* video m8

  • It was a organized walk by the Friends of the S&C line. Typical Ribblehead weather, cheers.

  • My favourite place. I've flown Ingleborough & Whernside several times on Hang-gliders and ridden over the viaduct on the footplate of 71000, a steam loco. You can get lovely Yorshire puddings in the Station Inn just below the southern end of the Viaduct.

  • Yes, it's a great pub that one :-) Must of been quite a sight seeing the viaduct from a hang-glider :-) Cheers.

  • Its Single Track, I always thought it was Double

    Excellent Video.

  • Many thanks. Yes, use to be double track, but now sadly single. Regards.

  • Windy for a change!!!

  • Just a bit, certainly blow the old cobwebs away....

  • Hello This Is A Good Vid!!!

  • Thnak you & many thanks for watching, cheers.

  • Thanks for posting - I wanted to do this but sods law - I was away that weekend!

  • Thank you, it was a great day. Even the rain failed to damp the spirits :-) Cheers.

  • Great, Sounded windy, do trains still cross the viaduct

  • Yes a bit breezy. The railway I'm pleased to say is still in use :-) Check out the links in the description box on the right, cheers.

  • how come u were on it?

  • We saw the advert & so booked our self a place on the walk. Cheers.

  • HEY THERE STEPHEN DOWN UNDER HERE

I like it I bet it was cold that day how s your model railway going .

I just brought a H ST set and 5 mk 3 cars on Ebay for $122,00 about 60.00 pound now I have to get it chipped and a sound system put in to both ends

  • Hi Stephen, hope your fine & well. Temp wise I found it wasn't too bad, just very wet once we got off the viaduct ( the heavens opened up.....) Great one with the HST. Which livery did you go for?? Will look great on your layout. I'd like to sound chip mine at some point too. Update video of layout coming shortly. Kind regards. Cheers.

  • Simply wonderful! Thanks for sharing your experience at this magnificent piece of art!!!

  • Thank you. It's one of my favourite spots in the dales is this, it still hasn't sunk in that i've walked across it. Kind regards.

  • wow! You are very lucky! I've been over it on 158 i think or some Northern DMU. Nice one!

  • On the train i've done it behind a class 47 twice when they where doing the normal service from Leeds. I've also do it on a railtour (Pilkington K set behind a class 47). And the last two times was on a 156. Cheers.

  • you live in a beautifull country

  • Thank you. I hope at some point to show more of this line, Cheers.

  • I thouroughly enjoyed every bit of it. Stayed with a couple of friends in Guildford back in 2004 and i fell in love with the wilderness there and especially Scotland. I plan to go back one year soon before i get too old to travel. It may have been a cold day that day, but it warmed my heart.

  • Thank you. Cheers.

  • that looks like there's tellitubbies down there.

  • Nah!! It be to cold & wet for them there, they'd be in the nearby pub...... :-) Cheers.

  • awesome

  • Thank you.Cheers.

  • I was up in Yorkshire a month or so back - just as the line was closed for maintenance :(

I now wish I'd been around for the walk ;(

    Seems you enjoyed it, though!

  • It was a great walk, & we learned a lot off the guide(s) as well. That breeze whilst on the viaduct didn't half clear the old cobwebs out my head. Not sure if the walk will be repeated next year or not, if it is I hope you'll get the chance to go. Kind regards.

  • Well done! I like it! How come you got to do this though?

  • Thank you. One of my friends found out about this, earlier this year, so we booked our place on the walk. It was organized by the Settle Carlisle Railway trust, & was advertised in one of the railway mags. Kind regards.

  • Thats an Excellent video mate :)

You were lucky, only person i know of thats been able to do that, i expect it was impressive, the only thing that could've made it better is if you saw a Class 37 hauled Railtour come along the viaduct. Haha. ; )

    5*.

    Will

  • Yes, that would of been awesome...I can just imagen that shot now...extreme close up on the viaduct with the 37 passing....

    :-) Cheers.

  • did have a feeling that a train might be coming up behind you ? :) (even tho u knew there wasnt)

    great vid

  • Yes & no, I still kept looking back behind just to make sure.....silly really but gut instincts i guess. Many thanks.Cheers.

  • It's was certainly a strange feeling walking across it. The weather was typical for up there. A once in a life time thing. Not sure if they'll be doing this walk again next year or not.Cheers.

  • i used to like up in yorksire so i know the weather we lived on a farm up a hill !

  • Cool. Cheers.
