Its a great place, but take it from me, it isn't any fun walking from Ribblehead Station to Blea Moor tunnel in the winter... Cold just isn't the right word...
@basfordhall It was good walk, if a bit on the old wet side. As far as we know, it may be the last one for a good while to come?? Check the friends of the S&C website for more details.Regards.
My favourite place. I've flown Ingleborough & Whernside several times on Hang-gliders and ridden over the viaduct on the footplate of 71000, a steam loco. You can get lovely Yorshire puddings in the Station Inn just below the southern end of the Viaduct.
Hi Stephen, hope your fine & well. Temp wise I found it wasn't too bad, just very wet once we got off the viaduct ( the heavens opened up.....) Great one with the HST. Which livery did you go for?? Will look great on your layout. I'd like to sound chip mine at some point too. Update video of layout coming shortly. Kind regards. Cheers.
On the train i've done it behind a class 47 twice when they where doing the normal service from Leeds. I've also do it on a railtour (Pilkington K set behind a class 47). And the last two times was on a 156. Cheers.
I thouroughly enjoyed every bit of it. Stayed with a couple of friends in Guildford back in 2004 and i fell in love with the wilderness there and especially Scotland. I plan to go back one year soon before i get too old to travel. It may have been a cold day that day, but it warmed my heart.
It was a great walk, & we learned a lot off the guide(s) as well. That breeze whilst on the viaduct didn't half clear the old cobwebs out my head. Not sure if the walk will be repeated next year or not, if it is I hope you'll get the chance to go. Kind regards.
Thank you. One of my friends found out about this, earlier this year, so we booked our place on the walk. It was organized by the Settle Carlisle Railway trust, & was advertised in one of the railway mags. Kind regards.
You were lucky, only person i know of thats been able to do that, i expect it was impressive, the only thing that could've made it better is if you saw a Class 37 hauled Railtour come along the viaduct. Haha. ; )
It's was certainly a strange feeling walking across it. The weather was typical for up there. A once in a life time thing. Not sure if they'll be doing this walk again next year or not.Cheers.
Great video. I wonder if that viaduct was built with todays technology how much it would cost. £50million?
cyanspeaker 2 months ago
I dread to think what it'd cost now, think you can't be to far wrong at £50 million??

@cyanspeaker New Forth Bridge (can't remember if it's road or rail) is pledged at £600m... Nae good!

basfordhall 1 year ago
@basfordhall It was at one time, must be down to structural reasons as to why they singled it??
