(see my first post below) ...I flew about 10 yards, landed on my head. I couldn't move and good thing -- we were caught in a cross fire and had I been able to jump up and run, they would have raked me with AK-47 rounds. My buddies managed to grab me by the boots and pull me out. I'm proud to be Blackhorse Trooper.
You could help the current generation understand that even though the Army failed to put RPG resistant applique armor on, you still kicked NVA/VC ass. We have a lost generation today that is dying on roads/trails in wheeled trucks who don't know the right way to maneuver cross-country using light M113 Gavin tracks.
You are correct in every way.Today's Army age people are NOT like WWII through post Viet Nam soldiers. They are having their own problems -Yes But NOT like us in Viet Nam. I saw death almost every hour. We were hard warriors. We were young also. I Bet we could never get very many soldiers to storm the beaches of Normandy. Or crash the jungles of Viet Nam
I was in the 11th ACR when it was in Germany 1992-94. A great history, but someone should tell that announcer guy in the video that we lost the war in Vietnam.
LOL, its is a sort of propaganda piece...but the 11th ACR did more than its part to keep South Vietnam free; the failure is at the higher levels for not sealing the country off from Ho Chi Minh Trail infiltration by a sensor-security fence/wall w w w . c o m b a t r e f o r m . c o m / j o h n p a u l v a n n . h t m
It's a great video for what it's trying to do. I couldn't help but be reminded of the announcer in the movie Starship Troopers.
And I agree with you too. I read a book about the tunnel rats, 11th ACR members that would crawl in the tunnels that the VC had dug and blow away VC in their holes with a handgun. THAT takes ballz!
Related fact: There was a height maximum to be in the 11th ACR since they were doing this tunnel rat thing. 6' 4" linebackers need not apply.
11th ACR was the best!! 1969 to 70 for me.
