  • Hi Everyone Please like twojewsonfilm on facebook Thanks so much

  • The woman in this clip is right.....THE TREE OF LIFE WAS AMAZING!

  • @MsPROOFthatGODexists The woman in the clip is me...Joan and she thanks you. I loved this film. Number one on my top ten list.

  • Is this your nominee for Best Film ??

  • @frenchbullfrog Mine yes...John's...definitely not. LOL. We'll be doing our 'Ten Best Films Of 2011' show in a few days.

  • loved this movie one of the best of the year, loved johns "inspired film-making" lol

  • @TheNoodle97 yes, he does love those special effects. LOL

  • This film completely denounces god. A boy's death and a mother's plea to god (why), takes us on a 30 minute detour of the evolution and the cosmos over millions of years and not seven days. Once he establishes the absence of god, he proceeds poetically to comfort us, reminding us of the beauty of life. We are just a an astroid away from extinction, so just try to be good to one another and enjoy your frail moment in the cosmos together. Abandon your religious crusade and embrace life as it is.

  • @limitlesslimited ha, God is real, how do you explain creation. If evolution was real isn't it still happening. Beings adapt, not evolve into something different. It is possible a meteor crashed into the earth and killed all of the dinosaurs, but God would have done. God gives and he takes away.

  • @limitlesslimited Dude, do you just post the exact same rant after every clip on this movie? I've seen this crap after at least 3 or 4 clips.

  • @limitlesslimited I don't think so. The 30 minute "detour" should be seen as a mirror of the opening epitaph from the Book of Job. When Jessica Chastain's character demanded to God, "answer me," we only see the glory of the formation of the universe. This mirrors God's response to Job when he demands God to answer him, God responds by describing the whole of creation while pointing out the utter insignificance of Job's plight.

  • @snillocgrom so how do you explain them showing the volcanoes spewing out the heat and material that eventually formed nucleic acids? and also how do you explain the ocean sponges growing? (current evolutionary theory suggest sponges were the first major organisms) How do you explain the very process of evolution shown to you in correct order, unless of course you believe evolution to be real (contrary to the Bible), in which case god is irrelevant existent or non existent.

  • @amxmachine Christianity does not equate Young Earth Creationism (neither do the other abrahamic faiths). The film most certainly displays snapshots of an Old Earth origin story, a view that is embraced by mainland Christianity denominations as well as the Catholic Church. The Theory of Evolution is not contrary to the Bible. It may be contrary to the literal translation of the English translation of the first chapter of Genesis, but read the original hebrew and you get a different idea.

  • @amxmachine the existence of evolution in no way diminishes God's relevance. But let's get back to the film. The fact remains that Malick is Christian, and his love for both science and God is attested in an interview with Brad Pitt, and obviously Malick is not a christian who subscribes to young earth creationism, and may even be a Universalist Christian.

  • @amxmachine I am not "twisting" anything to fit in with my moral aesthetics. That the film is meditating on the issue of Theodicy utilizing a Jobian perspective is what makes it religious in a philosophical sense. Neither it nor I are espousing Christian doctrines or values. I was merely suggesting people attempt to understand the film within the perspective of religion.

  • @limitlesslimited This was a deeply religious film. From Genesis to Revelation with Job as foundation. Right up to the ending sequence....you see images of Christian Eschatology: the bride rising up to meet the groom (seen under water), the two dead Witnesses (wrapped in white rags), Sean Penn collapsing on the ground and bows and clutches the barefeet of "The Guide," etc.

  • @limitlesslimited isnt it awesome how the christians crawl out of the woodwork to twist the meaning of the movie towards their own moral aesthetics?

  • Great video! *subscribed*

  • @videorecuts thanks so much Really appreciate it.

  • You have great chemistry. Are you involved in the film industry?

  • @drpiddleton Yes...I'm an actress and screenwriter. John is a screenwriter as well. He created the cult classic films 'Faces Of Death' and has been a writer for over twenty years.

  • @twojewsonfilm wow, it nice to finally meet critics who have a background in film making.

  • I am strangely attracted to the lady here...

  • @alchemistvstiger There's nothing strange about it. LOL

  • "HOw do I exist watching this 2 1/2 hours of this film?" LOL "I think If I took LSD...." "Why are you screaming?" L:OL this guy is great !!! I loved his props... hilarious

  • "the most original film that's ever been made," I would turn you towards Stanley Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey. I thought Malick's 'Tree of Life' a brilliant film, but in many ways his answer to 2001. He seemed to mimic Kubrick while arguing with kubrick theologically. Steven Speilberg said of 2001 that it was the film 'that changed the form of film.' Malick employed kubrick's new form in 'Tree of Life,' making Tree of Life a great film, but not the most original.

  • @jackiesteel Hmmm...okay interesting point...I loved 2001 of course and yes that was definitely one of the most original films as well. Can we have more than one? LOL

  • @jackiesteel Mmm Jackie, have you seen any Andrei Tarkovsky's films? Tree of Life is more similar to them than to 2001 actually (even the mother's hair in Tree of Life is similar to that of the mother in The Mirror). While I do get your point about the Malick's response to 2001, I don't think he employed Kubrick's form or whatever. Solaris by Tarkovsky is considered the Russian response to Kubrick's 2001 and Tree of Life has lots of reference to Solaris. A great film would define its own genre.

  • Joan you are perceptive and John probably like me, one of your best reviews

  • @frenchbullfrog Wow thanks so much. Really appreciate it.

  • Try to laugh after understanding Malick's joke.

“Where were you when I laid the foundations of the Earth, when the morning stars sang together... and all the sons of God shouted for joy?” You can answer the question when the film is over. Weren’t you seated on the cinema’s chair? Just a riddle.

"Grey, my friend, is every theory

And green is Life’s golden tree."

    (Goethe)

"delirium...plays with the universe and its laws as if they were toys” (Bataille).

    It plays with you too.

  • @Gooltter beautifully put. Definitely a five bagel comment.

  • I thought Jews were supposed to be funny

  • Why is this already a masterpiece? Its still in the theater. That is a little assuming dont you think? Its already a classic? What else has Malick done, what kind of context are you putting this in? Good lord, go drink another glass of chianti and pass out.

  • @tedcantu1 You're funny. In my subjective opinion...it is a masterpiece. My husband (the other reviewer) absolutely hated it. I think he's more in your school. P.S. I don't drink nor do I ever pass out. LOL

  • @twojewsonfilm LOL !!! You guys are great

  • @tedcantu1 thank you so much. really appreciate it.

  • It is a masterpiece, and the Lady shoulda married a gentile...

  • @chancesareshewears LOL. Maybe you're right.

  • "Because I'm passionate" Hahaha... love it!

  • @JyeSherwell thank you. Glad we made you laugh. LOL

  • I'd hit it.

  • @nycic LOL

  • @nycic Hit what? The guy or the woman?

  • Wow, The White Stripes have really let themselves go.

  • @enigma19833 LOL

  • I think who posted that comment on my wall was the 'Mrs'. Well your husband was 500% right.

  • @Habeel13 You're funny. Objectively speaking, I am so far from boring...LOL. I'm stubborn, opinonated, funny, smart, intelligent, creative and oh yeah MODEST...definitely not boring LOL

  • @twojewsonfilm You're right about the funny part, and you being stubborn lol. Well If you're not boring, then why was that movie so boring?

  • @Habeel13 It's not...but I'll admit not everyone on Planet Earth loved it.

  • @Habeel13 He'll love that.

  • @twojewsonfilm Yeah, tell him I'm his fan now.

  • The most boring people will love this movie

  • Saw it and I really liked it.

  • @LoveAGoodBook You have excellent taste

  • If anybody is uncertain about seeing this film, watch the trailer. If it seems interesting watch this film in the theaters. It is one of those experiences that will not be forgotten and if you are both patient and want ot see a refreshingly original film, you will find great joy and wonder in the Tree of Life. I sincerely believe though that the people that walked out of this film had little patience and just love the usual crap from Hollywood. A.K.A Transformers.

  • @ItsTomSaysHi Beautifully put.

  • @3Continues I recommend onion, poppyseed, sesame seed LOL

  • love TREE OF LIFE. still think THE THIN RED LINE is Malick's best but its awesome. people, if you abandon the idea that a film needs to be strict narrative in order to be followed, you will feel differently about Malick. an impressionistic painting, a poem, the metaphysical elements, everything she said is true about malick, but the porblem people have is excepting the idea that music and image can draw out feelings as powerful as plot. give it another watch-youll see ;)

  • @kssoukup Beautifully put You get five bagels from me ...seriously you do!

  • One of the worst movies ever!!! Could have watched the National Geographic Channel for free! Walked out....along with so many other people. Thank goodness I had the good sense to go get my refund after 45 minutes. Met many others who actually sat and watched the entire movie and hated it the whole time. Should have paid you my $14.50 to watch your review. enjoyed it!

  • @entertainment74 You sound just like my husband. I'm sure you know that. This is a film that I think people either loved or hated. I guess you'll take John's recommendations from now on...LOL

  • "masterpiece" It was ridiculously boring. Really. I counted fourteen walk outs, and this is Europe.

    We never walk out!

  • @neshannockfez Looks like you and Europe agree with my husband He would have walked out but I chained him to his seat LOL

  • @neshannockfez Looks like you and Europe agree with my husband He would have walked out but I chained him to his seat LOL

  • @neshannockfez People walking in Europe is no surprise.. Jaded & cynical fall short to describe, some of them. It was totally authentic & original... Perhaps you too, should reconsider your cynicism..

  • @megaead69 it was an authentic piece of trite cheese, and in order for something to be original it has to have content, which the movie was completely void of.

  • @neshannockfez Oh, that's right... Contemplation on the origins & meaning of life as they relate to the origins and meaning of one's own life within the context of family is so "void" of content.. Sigh.....

  • @megaead69 contemplation is meaningless without conclusion, and they related with each other (creation and life in texas) in absolutely NO way whatsoever. Yes, it's absolutely void of content.

  • @neshannockfez No conclusion.. It was quite a grand scene of the after life.. The contemplation elements were most certainly related. Creation And life/death ANYWHERE is related.. So again, perhaps the cynicism needs to be reconsidered?

  • @megaead69 grand scenes? You're imagining things. You were shown a few pretty fotos and are now ready to say it was some sort of metaphysical bull. No the creation of the universe isn't related to your childhood in texas and your daddy issues with brad pitt. To say so is insufferably pretentious.

  • @neshannockfez Right.. first off they were not "photos".. And why is the contemplation of one's reason for existing and one's place in the universe, pretentious? How does the creation of the universe not have to do with one's life, wherever that happens to be?

  • @megaead69 They were glorified photos, and you can claim contemplations of existentialism out of them the same way I can claim it out of of my toilet swirls. They're both worth the exact same thing.

Like it or not this is nothing but film snob's avatar. It doesn't have a plot, but it's pretty so it doesn't have to, and since it doesn't involve aliens, you claim "masterpiece of art" without sounding like a nerd.

No, I take it back. Avatar's narrative was simple, but at least it had one.

  • @neshannockfez Right.. you're saying that scenes involving the creation of the universe, the start of life on earth and subsequent evolution have the same contemplative value as the swirls in your toilet? The relationship between those events is a central aspect to the lives of all people.

It most certainly did have a plot, an although it was abstract, it was also linear and clear. The struggle of man reconciling the suffering he and his family endured after his brothers death with purpose.

  • @megaead69 Yes. Yes they do. First of all, as any educated person will tell you those weren't images of creation, they're just images of current space phenomena. There's no magic in them, it's just junior science. Pretty, sure, pretty boring and pretty irrelevant to your life. Knowledge of what makes them tick at least has educational value, but that's not what they did, they just try to go with shallow displays and see what kind of people looks at them and goes "Oh, I have seen teh light"

  • @megaead69 The relationship of creation is irrelevant to people's lives. They're richer for knowin it, but anyone that defines temselves by wat happened a trilion years ago is a sad moron out of touch wit reality. Just morons whimpering for chicken soup for the soul. "Hey you wanna deal with tragedy and hardship? Just look at this pretty footage of a desert and dinossaur stomping! Isn't God awesome? Sun burns with fire, so therefore, your family is all better now!" Word fail to describe the bad.

  • @megaead69 Reading Comprehension. Take two and call me in the morning

  • @neshannockfez Cynical outlook reduction measures- partake in them, and see movie again.

  • @megaead69 I'm sorry but I don't turn off my brain just so others can have a false claim at quality.

  • I ABSOLUTELY LOOOVED this movie!

wonderful metaphor for life, existence, love and pain.

    i give it 9.8 out of 10!!

  • @dogmiagy I agree completely Brilliant minds...LOL

  • I hated the film, but this review is the best film review ever. I loved it. No joke.

  • @hlhoffman Wow thank you so much. As you know, my husband hated it too. In fact so did most of my friends. LOL

  • @twojewsonfilm Your husband hated the film? You must be kidding. My wife and I would have only given it one bagel (that is half a bagel each). We are still laughing out loud from your review.

  • @hlhoffman LOL

  • This film is simply beautiful - practicaly transendental. As Jodie Foster says in CONTACT - ''no words''

    Oh and John, - com'on....really? :)

p.s. ....last time i took serious drugs in a theater was when ALTERED STATES premiered. ...bad mistake...
