  • Oh how I just LOVE this song! Thank you for posting this most beautiful song!

  • YOU IGNORANT PEOPLE !!!! the cross did not save you Jesus did , it just becomes another idol like the virgin mary praise Jesus !!! reply if I'm right , and also if you do your homework the cross is another form of sun worship , don't you see the sun in the background a duh, god is not the sun nor the cross hes outside of time in heaven preparing a place for us.

  • @giutar100 you cant say what God is and what he is not because He can be whatever He wants to be and you don't know what he is something and when He is that something

  • This song is Amazing =) I have Chris's newest CD which is called How Great is Our God: The Essential Collection, if you want to see the unboxing go to my channel

  • Okay then, so the song changes. Who wrote that song? Isaac Watts or God? 1 Corinthians 14:36 What? came the word of God out from you? or came it unto you only? In other words, Isaac Watts was just the "Transmitter". But God wrote the "Song" and the "Melody". 2 Peter 1:21 For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost. Remember the "Prophecies" was sealed up in Psalms and Songs to! All God need is an empty vessel.
  • yes! God never changes!

however the style of the song changes, it's still worshiping the same unchangeable, eternal God.

  • amazingly awesome LOVEEEEEEE :)))))

  • I love this sound, we even sing this song in our church. But NOT the way in which they have sang it here. For they have change and add they own chorus, Ooooh Myyy. :-(

When would people come to realize, WHEN GOD GIVE SOMETHING THE FIRST TIME, IT'S THE BEST THING HE'LL EVER GIVE. FOR WHEN HE GIVE SOMETHING HE GIVES HIMSELF.

And that's nothing but the truth.

  • I cannot believe how many are bashing on this song!! Where is your gift of discernment??? Can't you feel the anointing in the words??!!

Many of you are quoting scripture but I want to add.... BE CAREFUL, because you are forgetting one very important verse...... "TOUCH NOT MY ANOINTED AND DO MY PROPHETS NO HARM!!!" God will use who and what He wants and its not up you!! But I do know this song is anointed..... So pray and trust God... He knows what He is doing even if you don't or don't agree...

  • KNOW THIS FOR A "FACT". God Never Change. He's The Same Yesterday, Today And Forever.

For those who want some stimulation add to God Hymnals, Be VERY CAREFUL WHAT YOU"RE DOING.

Revelation 22:18 For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book:

  • Leaveneth the whole lump. Galatians 5:9..

I'm NOT here to debate, but help. The Lord Bless Thee. :-)

  • My friend @ Historymaker2001 I'm 22 of age. And that's the truth. That's what catches the young people, it's the beat, NOT the words of the song. I challenge anyone on that. I'm a Musician, singer, music composer, song writer etc etc. God has blessed me with a lot.

But it's NOT to puff me up, but help the one's that are struggling.

Music carries "spirit". It's either of God or of Satan. You cannot have the two going together, for "TWO CANNOT WALK TOGETHER UNLESS THEY AGREED". A little leaven

  • @C14Horn I would tend to agree with you in most respects. No-one was ever saved from a good beat within a song. The spirit behind the song is what saved them - the spirit of God. However, I do know that modern youth find hymnals boring, and will look elsewhere for a musical stimulant. If the beat of a song is what first catches the ear, the spirit will follow.

  • You could make this world a better world @ limbos3?

John17:9 I pray for them: I pray not for the world, but for them which thou hast given me; for they are thine.

There's No one in the entire earth will change this world into a better world.

  • Look people! Don't show up here and argue about a beat whether it is scriptural or not. God cannot be fooled. When was the last time you actually did something for someone? Go and help your neighbor... that's scriptural..sign up and volunteer in your local community, help make this world a better world by sharing your faith while helping others. Don't come here and put burdens you are not willing to touch on other people's shoulders. Don't cluster yourselves in your christian bubble only.

  • Seems like there's a debate on music here.

To clear it up: if the music doesn't glorify God, don't sing it. This song does; drums or not. Some people can't carry a beat if they tried: it's nice to have someone with a sense of rhythm help them out.

  • the difference. Because in 1 Samuel 16:23 And it came to pass, when the evil spirit from God was upon Saul, that David took an harp, and played with his hand: so Saul was refreshed, and was well, and the evil spirit departed from him.

I DO NOT believe that it's the "Beat" that cast out the unclean evil spirit. But the "Spirit" behind the beat.

And correction please. That beat in that song will NEVER SAVE NO ONE. If you all claims that you are Christians, Please Be Scriptural and not carnal.

  • @ EVERYONE "When I Survey the Wondrous Cross", was written by Isaac Watts published in 1707. I am NOT against the words of the song. NO no, neither am I against Chris Tomlin and Matt Redman, NO, I'm against the "beat". And I'm not here to ague, but give a comment. Now many may agree to what you say, i don't have a problem with that. But know this for sure my friends. That "NO BEAT" has NEVER SAVED NO ONE, WILL NEVER SAVED NO ONE AND IS SAVING NO ONE. It's the "spirit" behind the beat that makes

  • Agreed with yamaha!

  • That's true.

"MANY" lives, that don't have the "HOLY SPIRIT".

  • This is a very beautiful song, you are forgiven for those who disliked and questioned the tune of it, you just need to learn more how to appreciate the message of God for you. The way how Matt Redman and Chris Tomlin delivered the composition of this song is very awesome and can touch many lives.

  • What kind of Rock beat is put to this song?

huuhh. The thing start up nice and slow.

You trying to create a nice atmosphere for

someone to see or picture right, like the "Feast/Day Of Atonement",

To give a peaceful/conscious memorial of what Christ did on that "CROSS" for us.

And you give me this "ROCK" beat to go with it? God have mercy..

90% of these viewers is carried away with the beat, not the words of the song

I'm NOT talking to the person who post it up, NO, forgive me.

    but the composer

  • @C14Horn Yeah clearly. Cuz God didnt use this song to bring HeidiSue60 to repentance right? im pretty sure the beat of this song isn't what brought that person to God. and also, hymnals are flat out boring. Thats for old people. Teens and young adults need music to listen to that suits them. music is powerful. i dont care what kind of beat goes to it. it doesnt matter. God speaks through it.

  • @C14Horn Hymnals are boring. younger people typucally dont like hymnals. God likes us to sing and shout and dance. you cant really dance to a hymnal. its like being a zombie. no soul to it really. So with all due respect, your comment is dumb. that beat gives this song its feeling along with the words. And FYI, Chris Tomlin and Matt Redman are spirit filled Christians, who serve God. and they are AWESOME music artists. so that being said, God bless.

  • So what if christians idolize the cross if it synbolizes Jesus' sacrifice and Jesus is God in a way and we worship God

  • I find this song strange. Are we worshipping Jesus? Or the cross Jesus died on? Nonetheless I still feel God speak to me as I listen to this song.

  • He gave his life up for us ,we did not deserve to be saved but perish. God gave his only son up to die. God had to turn his face from him and let him die. Because he had so much sin on him from us. SO WHEN YOU HEAR THE NAME JESUS YOU SHOULD FALL TO THE GROUND AND PRAISE HIM. There is NO ONE like our lord and savior Jesus Christ. Amen

  • Thanks for posting Fanofc, what wonderful duet,2 singers that i love, really you make me feel so good, the cross where our savior suffuring for our freedom,is so wonderful

  • Praise His holy name!

  • Thank our beautiful Savior for dying for our sins. I will praise your holy name forever and forever!!!!!!

  • @bronze8747 You don't believe that Christians idolize the cross?

  • @rudygetsplenty We don't idolize the cross, it's a symbol of the suffering death Jesus went through to pay for our sins. We understand it's not a cross that did that, or any of God's wonders, it just sums up everything Jesus did. Plus, MLK supporters don't walk around with sniper necklaces because MLK himself was a Christian pastor. If anything they'd just have crosses too.

  • @camilo101 LOL will you got me on the MLK one. Nevertheless, I wholeheartedly disagree with you. If I were to walk down the street disgracing the cross (spitting on it, whatever), how long do you think it would be before somebody became violent towards me?

  • @rudygetsplenty If anyone did confront you, it's not because they idolize the cross, it's the fact that the cross represents Jesus, therefore disgracing a cross in the public is like disgracing Jesus. Another example, if you were to disgrace the American flag, many Americans would get angry. Not because they idolize the flag, but because the flag represents our nation. We don't pray or worship to a cross, we worship God. The cross is serves as a reminder of Jesus' sacrifice, nothing more.

  • @camilo101 THANK YOU for proving my point. Saying that the cross represents Jesus IS IDOLATRY! It's a graven image! It's allowing a man made image to represent the lord. It's breaking the 2nd commandment. How hilarious that you would just come out and say it.

  • 1 Corinthians 1:17

    New International Version (NIV)

17 For Christ did not send me to baptize, but to preach the gospel—not with wisdom and eloquence, lest the cross of Christ be emptied of its power.

You fail to understand the Spiritual meaning of the song . . . It is saying with out the pain Christ suffered on the cross, we would not have redemption, and our sin's could not be forgiven. Not idolizing the Cross itself but the suffering of our Lord and Savior. Peace to you in Christ Jesus

  • @KorinaVee I'm not talking about the song, I'm talking about the concept. The REAL verse is "For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel: not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of none effect.". The fact that the verse is changed in the NIV only serves as evidence that Christians have turned to idolatry, and that they worship the cross. There is danger and evil in holding the Cross to be holy; those who revere it have been swayed by false prophets.

  • @rudygetsplenty To me both versions of this verses say the same thing. The real truth is . . . The Cross of Christ it is more then the image you see around someones neck, in a picture or in the thought that it is a graven image. You seem knowledgeable enough, so I am sure you understand the Cross is that Christ came to take on the sin's of the world, by becoming the perfect sacrifice. This is not a song about an image, but the true cross of Christ.

  • @KorinaVee Wonderful concept... the Cross is not just the "wood"! The "cross" is the Sacrifice of our Saviour Jesus Christ. The place where his blood was shed for the whole world's sin and the starting point for each persons redemption.... The blood which cleanses us from all sin

  • @rudygetsplenty You're confused about what a graven image is. A graven image is something you WORSHIP, not merely something that represents a spiritual concept symbolically. Otherwise you'll have to accuse God of commanding the Hebrews to idolatry with the vast descriptions of the Temple and Tabernacle, especially how they were supposed to create golden images of cherubim.

    Do not deceive yourself.

  • @camilo101 I forgot; what's really a disgrace is using violence in the name of Jesus. But what's REALLY a disgrace is a "Christian" attempting to defend it.

  • Why do Christian worship the cross? I mean aside from that whole 2nd Commandment thing, isn't it just in poor taste in general? I mean, do Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s supporters walk around with little sniper rifle necklaces?

  • this song was performed in my church in english and spanish, and while i was listening to it, i experienced a feeling that came into me and completely surrounded me. it was a feeling of tranquility and serenity deep within me. i truly experienced the Holy Spirit that night and five days later i re-accepted Christ into my life.

  • Praise Jesus. Thank you for the cross, We are forever grateful, Father God!

  • To those of you to whom the cross is Just decorative jewelery, Please LISTEN Closely

  • What a great song to have stuck in your head :) ever since we played it in church I can't get it out. haha

  • Jesus, thank you for dying for me on the Wonderful Cross. Glory to you forever and ever. Amen!

  • Oh that wonderful cross where Jesus Christ the Lord died for us! God, your my only life!

  • im sorry but why is the charlie bit me video in the suggestions really they have nothing else to put there come on

  • Love so amazing. Yes it is so.

  • Good song for Easter!

  • Holy, holy holy, is the Lord, God, Almighty, who was, and is, and is to come - Revelation 4:8b

  • To give us everlasting grace and to show His unfailing love that we do not deserve, He suffered a death so cruel that He did not deserve. He is God, truly benevolent and caring and although we stray everyday, He patiently, loving waits for us to return to call us His own. How can we ever re-pay Him? We love You Jesus!

  • This song brought peace to my heart. Pure, wonderful, peace. Thank you, Lord, thank you.

  • Who would have thought that such amazing events unfolded when this man was crucified that day. Can you imagine the surprise satan would off got. Jesus turning up on his door step to take back the keys of life we had given him from the beginning of time. Oh death where is thy sting. Jesus giving us the power to say get behind me satan. The things we use to be addicted too, no longer have a hold on us when we bring it to Jesus. Amazing. 1Cor 15 vs 55, Col 2 vs 15, and Rev 1 vs 17.

  • Some of the most loved and awe-inspiring hymns were written by Charles Wesley. (1707-1788). Charles Wesley wrote over 6,000 hymns, many of which are anthems today.

"When I Survey the Wondrous Cross" was written by Isaac Watts. (1674-1748)

Wesley claimed that he would have gladly given up EVERY song he ever wrote to have written, "W.I.S.t.W.C." Can you imagine such a statement??

    Wow! WOW!!

  • He died to bring a profane, sinful and grossly ignorant world to Him-such amazing love. Let us follow in His example. The enemy clearly does not like this message

  • The Lord used this song to bring me to repentance four years ago. He showed me Himself, full of tears and sorrow, with blood and tears on His face under the crown of thorns...and *I* was doing it to Him! Oh, it broke my heart, and I turned it all over to Him. Thank you, Christ Tomlin for doing this song. It absolutely blessed me.

  • @HeidiSue60 Just a thought HeidiSue. You should also thank Isaac Watts. He wrote the words and music to this hymn 303 years ago.

  • Happy Easter everyone!!! we are free because of his scars. oh the wonderful cross!!!! <3

  • He made peace thru the blood He shed on the cross!! Col. 1:20

  • These lyrics are more than true, they are everything that has to do with God's Grace, Love, Mercy and Power. For such was shown at the Cross.

    1 Corinthians Chapter 1 Verse 18

For the preaching of the Cross is to them who perish foolishness, but to them who are saved it is the Power of God.

  • i LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE this song!!!!!!!

  • great hymn of the 1800's, especially with the remake in the chorus :)

  • @enrg4Christ indeeds

  • Remember this song when the moonies are getting all churches to remove their crosses in your church. The cross offends the wicked and by listening to the sinners to remove the cross from all churches is a mortal sin. Any major church confrence where many churches join to trade ideas and morals and see a moonie to get you to remove the cross. DENY them at every moment!

  • Where can I get the background that you used here? I'd like to use it in one of our church services for the power point background. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Благодать!

  • get to play this on sunday, cant wait!

  • I love this song everytime i hear it i know he's near.

    oh the wounderful cross

    oh the wounderful cross

    bids me come and die

and find that i may truly live.

  • Everybody pray for those that only see the wrath and not the everlasting love of God our father:)

  • Everybody pray for those that only see the wrath and not the eveerlasting love of God our father:)

  • Your god is pleased with human sacrifice?

Doesn't that sound rather primitive and mythological to you?

  • @SamWiseGingy - Less mythological than a guy who posts using a hobbit name.

  • @danswinton That would be an ad hobbitium attack.

  • @SamWiseGingy - hahahaha! touche. BTW, Tolkien was a Christian.

  • @danswinton

    "Tolkien was a Christian."

So. I started using this name before I was an atheist.

Europe was just beginning to thaw out from thousands of years of Christian oppression in Tolkien's day. Who knows what Tolkien would have been today.

  • @SamWiseGingy - Woulda shoulda coulda. He was. Tolkien seemed like a pretty smart guy. He didn't like reading Shakespeare because it was too contemporary. The guy was steeped in mythology. If Christianity had read like mythology to him, I'm sure he would have had enough sense to reject it. He was also a contemporary and good friend of a little known writer named C.S. Lewis, who also knew the difference between mythology and history.

  • redman has some amazing catchy songs on youtube. Same with another new band christian band called Red Letter Hymnal. They both have great stuff on youtube

  • or thorns compose so rich a crown... such a striking beautiful lyric that shows God's hand in making a such suffering into a beautiful legacy

  • love it

  • The Son of God became the Son of man for sons of men to become the sons of God.

  • "And the Spirit and the Bride say"come" and let all who thirst, come and drivk of the water of life freely......the price has been paid..

  • I've been asked to play for a funeral this Friday morning. What a fantastic song.. learning it now and sooooo perfect!!! and so true.. great ministry opportunity!!

  • We come to the cross to die. We die to live. God allows us, because of grace, to come to the cross. -Grace allows us to die at the cross. We want to die to ourselves because it's the only way to know and feel God. Its impossible to understand that God's mercy allowed us to die to gain him in our lives. We are dying to feel God's embrace, presence, and closeness = truly living. Dying for him is the best use of our lives. Any other usage of our lives for ourselves won't last and won't satisfy us.

  • wow this song is amazing. i wish i could write words to the gracious one so well. iv listened to this song so many times. it HAS to be one of my favourite songs ever!!

  • Comment removed

  • look i made a comment with improper grammar :)

  • Love this inspirational song of the CROSS.I dedicate this song to all those Christians who live as minorities in countries where Christianity is really despised. The CROSS makes the difference. These persecuted Christians re-enact the carrying and the wonders of the CROSS daily.

  • @inspirewisdom YES, as Christians WE have to stand in HIS army and Evangelize for HE who is the Answer to ALL. WE need to be BOLD, have DISCERNMENT and WISDOM to stand for the Lord. Amen

  • @inspirewisdom these days it can be us in canada and the usa who are the minority. only by the grace of God that we are in a free nation.

  • MEMORIES. MAKE ME WANT TO GO BACK TO THERE, BACK TO THERE

  • This song is really beautiful! But for the people who disliked this song I have two words!.....God Bless.

  • LOVEEEEEEEE this song!!! I could sing it all day!!! You can feel such Love flowing from the HOLY SPIRIT!! I LOVEEEEEEEEE YOU JESUS!!!

  • @corlissk

Ahh! I meant to hit the thumbs up button not the down one!!

    *Thumbs up*

God is AMAZING!!! Let us forever proclaim Your name Lord Jesus, Our Saviour, King and Our bestfriend! :)

  • Hallelujah, Christ is Risen!!!

  • @lionhearte1 He is risen indeed!!!

  • 5:20-5:25 a favorite part of the song for me! :):)

  • "He is Alive"

  • These lyrics are so profound,in that when we look at the Cross,we naturally see such a horrific event take place, yet through the believer's eyes, it is also the most beautiful thing that could ever be done for such sinners as ourselves...hence the name 'Wonderful Cross'.

  • I am a christian am am proud and not afraid to say it!!!! whos with me!!!!!! :) praise God forever!!! ~God bless!!!

  • I love your videos you do a Great job :D

  • Bids me come and die

  • I Love this song

  • I wept when they first sang "When I survey the wondrous cross, On which the Prince of Glory died, My richest gain I count but loss, And pour contempt on all my pride" Christ suffered the most pain and most people are oblivious to that.

  • Love this incredible. Thanks for the post. Lifts my heart and eyes to focus on Him who died and ROSE for us.

  • GOD Is Here

  • really great song xD..

  • Seriously, how can anybody doubt the existance and love of Jesus? This song arrangement is seriously one of my favourite musical tributes to the Eternal Father and his Son. I love driving down the street in here in Calgary pumping the tune out of my car. I get some really weird looks LOL :-D

  • wow i wish I could paint like that!

  • Don't forget that the cross is not to be worshiped, God alone is to be. The cross is a bridge to God, so that we may enjoy Him forever and know Him. It is a great gift of God, but not God Himself. Great song though.

  • Thank you for the cross Lord. Thank you for the unconditional LOVE.

  • awesome

  • YEA!!! The Cross!!! Whoo!!! Glory to GOD AWESOME are you GOD!!! We all are Saved!!!

  • great song!!

  • Woot, the dominate duo at work, Matt Redman and Chris Tomlin!

  • As I listened to this song, I was so moved, I wept and felt myself taken up into the Presence of God, through My Jesus. As He does everytime we call on His Name!

  • Love so amazing, so divine, truly demands my soul, my life, my all...I am all yrs Lord

  • "For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God." (1Corinthians 1:18)

  • I didn't know they sang this!!! I've only heard MWS's version.

  • Oh purrrrleeeeease (rolls eyes) .... who gives a (insert whatever word/phrase you want here) if this is a reworking of another hymn! I've also heard "When I Survey The Wondrous Cross"... Both songs have great merit, and both praise the awesome, Almighty Saviour!!! If all people can do on hearing such songs is bicker about whether one is a reworking of another... they are TOTALLY missing the point of the songs!!!

  • @MsEternallyBlessed I did not take the comments as bickering. I thought they were just voicing their thoughts!

  • John 3:16 "For God so loved the world that he gave his only son (Jesus Christ). Who ever belived in him shall not perish but have an EVERLASTING life!!!"

  • Beautiful song!! It was at the cross that our sins were forgiven.Thank you for the cross Lord!! O the wonderful sacrifice by the Saviour set me free!!! Thank you precious Lord!!

  • My two favorite singers in the same song!

  • Really cool beginning

  • Fanofcanucks, again another great presentation ! Aloha!

Jesus' love rings true as God IS love, God is good...

I wish all a pleasant Easter.

May more ppl of this world come to realize that

the truth is God, God is love; thus true love is life's fulfillment...

  • Love you Jesus! <3

  • What an amazing exchange on that cross. My sins for His righteousness, my sickness for His healing, my death and condemnation for eternal life and forgiveness. Thank you Jesus--I love you Lord!

  • TGIF - Thank God its Friday, Good Friday that is.

Happy Good Friday to all and Happy Easter! Victory belongs to Jesus and by his grace to us who believe in Him!

  • Happy Good Friday!

  • Happy easter good people...he died he rose and he is coming back...xoxoxo

  • LOVE THIS SONG!Our Church is singing it for our Easter program

  • For my family and Father thank you.

  • This song is so beautiful! I love when they sing "Bids me come and die and find that I may truely live" and I love when they sing "All who gather near by grace draw near." Only by His grace can we draw near. If we had to depend on our own works none of us would be going to Heaven. Which is a good thing because all of my best works are filthy rags in compared to God. Thank you Jesus.

  • so amazing song ! love it :)

  • I could sure use every ones prayers.Going through a tough time.

  • u have any specific prayer request?

  • @carpengt123 anything in particular?
