how come almost all the converted cars look like a 12 yr old put the together with a $50 dollar gift card from radio shack? like the s10 electric truck with a piece of plywood holding the gauges. how are you gonna be taken seriously with ugly halfass workmanship. clean it up a bit......its a display of what can be built. i wouldnt buy something with handfuls of wire hanging out the dash.
Jesus you whiners, gas in Canada has been $3.80+/gal for YEARS, It's been as high as $6/gal before. And in many parts of the world, it's even more expensive than that.
What I dont understand is if they have had these sparrows out for the past 13 years why hasnt another company picked em up and massed produced them?? for that price Id sure buy one!!!
What was that little yellow car?? Wow if they have an electric car why are they all over the road now? Heck with those Arabs stopping oil production so that they can inflate the oil prices , i say heck with oil go electric!
The yellow car is a Corbin Sparrow which are now made by Myers Motors NmG and yes there was a custom gold Sparrow that made an appearance in Mike Myers(not sure if related) movie: Austin Powers, "Goldmember".
In 1897, the first commercial application was established as a fleet of New York City taxis built by the Electric Carriage and Wagon Company of Philadelphia.
gas is at its cheapest since 2001 at 1.71 now. Why? the economy is bad so gas is lowered so that people can go out and spend more money. Thats how much control the government have on gas prices.
Neither GM nor any other legacy auto manufacturer will build an EV. As for EVs, Legacy auto companies won't build them because EVs never need service. Look how big the service department is at every car dealer, and your out-of-wallet experience there. Much revenue at risk. They don't make money selling cars. They make money on service, like a printer company that makes money selling ink cartridges.
Very true indeed. I forced myself to learn almost all maintenance and repair needs of my cars by reading repair handbooks because of the reasons you said and the crooked mechanics who I have learned will rip you off at the first opportunity.
a hybrid is nothing more than a car mocking up the problem just like catalytic converters mock up the pollution problem. In other words, it still suks, just not as much...
Most of the electric vehicles in the slideshow are normal cars & trucks that have been converted to electric. You can convert almost any manual transmission car or truck for less than $10,000 using all new parts. It can be done for much less than that with used parts. So, they are much cheaper than any new hybrid. Of course, if you need to drive hundreds of miles a day on the freeway, a Prius (50MPG) is a better choice. Hybrid SUVs are not very good for efficiency, most get less than 30MPG.
I like electric vehicles more then gas cars not only because of its efficiency but its quiet and fast speed. I think it is better to use renewable energy, like energy from air and sun to charge Electric Vehicles instead of depending on the home wall socket.
Cute little cars! We have an RV and diesel is $4.00/gal here. We are getting ready to go on vacation and the price of gas will really eat into our fun!
How do you guy"s in the UK stand for $11 a gallon. I know you have a lot of taxes included in that price. We have many politicians that would like $11 per gallon here in the USA. Hopefully, the U.S. public would be smart enough to riot and whack their silly arses, but probably not.
Don't know from personal experience, but I've been told that in the U.S. people drive a LOT more miles than those in Europe. And, this is not just because Americans like to drive more but because they have to. This could explain why people in the UK are not so active in a search to obtain an alternative way to travel/drive.
u look ugly with those shades.

80% is fuel duty. We don't have a choice except to make biodiesel which has no fuel duty at the moment or go electric.
I'm going electric!

Mass transit in Germany and Japan is omnipresent & cheap. I never needed to drive the times I was there.

You know, at $11 a gallon you'd think the British would be clamoring for EVs.
Well, they're not.
This does not bode well for the US.
It means that the general public are too apathetic to bother with much more than looking for cars that get better mpg.
Nuts to that. I want MPC.
