He was in his right to film. I am familiar with media laws in Canada and it states, legally, only one person is required to give consent, be it the camera/audio operator or the person filming if its not for monetary gain.

The only time you are not allowed to film them or they are allowed to seize your camera/audio equipment is if they have a warrant to do so. She did not present one and proceeded to take it by force.
