  • What happend to the lightspeed zulu?

  • @youngkiszk35 At OSH I bought an alternate pair, the kind John is wearing in the left seat. Clarity Aloft. Very nice and great for long trips.

  • very well put together, nice cameras, nice video,...nice plane! working on instrument rating now, found video helpful :) thanks N8129D

  • @JY8949 Glad to help. Need to start working on mine!

  • I like watchng this video. A good pilot friend of mine told me " When we all start flying we are the natural IFR pilots because we forget to look outside the cabin to to see what is going on, the our CFI teaches us the VFR. "

  • @bryanmeiter That is great. I've never heard that said just that way before. Totally makes sense. :)

  • Somebody has some nice camera equipt. Nice vid.

  • @pat6270 Thank you. I've been building the camera collection for a few years now. You can see how my technology has improved over that time on my main page.

  • @rdrd4544 That's correct. When there is no formal departure procedure, the tower will issue you departure instructions -- usually a heading and an altitude limit.

  • Awesome post more of IFR flying. This is good for educational purpose.

  • @phantomf41 Thanks for the nice comment. I agree, the more experience we have, even just through video, the better we are as pilots.

  • @rdfelty oh yeah!

  • VERY interesting! Climbing through those clouds really concentrates the mind, eh?

  • @donwert Yes it does. That's really why I thought it was worth producing this video. This is real time and we were very focused.

  • Rick; I've been away on vacation and just had the chance to watch it....great procedures and well worth producing it. In the NYC area the challenge is that ATC will order up 3 or 4 hard turns just after takeoff on an IFR departure in order to work you into traffic. I suspect Boston can also do this at certain times. You really have to be on your toes if you are climbing right "into the soup" after takeoff. All the more reason for a sterile cockpit until established in cruise. Take care, Jim

  • @jhchristie Great comments Jim. I sure was a good introduction to IFR and major cross-country flying. Learned a lot!

  • Hi Rick, l'm looking to start my IFR training soon as well. When the PIC said "Tops 4500", was he providing a "pilot weather report" to the controller?

  • @ronraley Sorry for the late reply, I just saw this. You are correct, I was giving a PIREP (PIlot REPort) to the controller on where the tops of the clouds were, which gets entered into the system and can be accessed by other pilots during their weather briefing for about 3 hours.

  • That "whitewash" seems very scary to me. I hope I can control my nerves when its time for my first IFR...

  • @Kaliber35 The best part is that while you're training, you're with someone which should help with the nerves. But the first time alone has got to be interesting. I've not yet done it.

  • Can you tell me which headsets youre using? They look really comfortable...are they?

  • @Kaliber35 Those are from Clarity Aloft and yes, they are very comfortable. And the passive noise canceling is great!

  • That was a great video. Thanks for sharing.

  • @cholubaz Thanks for watching and for commenting.

  • Great job Rick! I know that took allot of work to add the subtitles. I need to setup more than one camera for my flights so I can get the multi angle shots like this. Once again great job!

  • Rick, another great video...thanks! How did you like the Clarity Aloft headset compared to your Lightspeed Zulu? I'm thinking of purchasing the C.A.?

  • Excellent

  • Thanks for posting!

  • Great job Rick! Another nice video. I love when you get out of the clouds and into the high blue sky!

  • Nice Rick! another interesting video!

  • Nice video! I've started prepping for my IFR... it's easier than I thought. I assume those are PFDs you're both wearing for the trip across Lake Michigan? They won't help much without a raft (the water is too cold unless you splash near boat). Did you bring one? Sorry I missed you at OSH10! You weren't at the UCAP Lienies Redistribution.

  • @bekoehn The funny this is that Wellington and I were there for Leinnies mostly talking to Jeb!

  • Very cool and informative Rick! Still very jealous of your trip. Can't wait to hear all about it at PYM very soon.
