does your pc have firewire? Im thinking about getting the firestudio project because my usb interface was experiencing alot of latency, so i want to get this one. but i dont have firewire. Therefore i will have to buy a firewire card. Do you know if doing that will end the latency?
@drummerboy9551 Yes my Pc has firewire. Since I made this video I now use a Focusrite Saffire Pro 40. I have not compared the firestudio project side by side with the Pro 40 but I highly recommend you check out the focusrite. I think it may have less lantency then the presonus. Although I think most connections on the pro 40 feel cheaper then presonus. My presonus had to be fixed so I have not yet compared side by side. Happy Recording!
Often it depends on the driver/transfer protocol. Try e.g. ASIO. USB 2.0 is even faster than firewire (that means it can transfer more data at the same time) so i don't think it's caused by the interface. But i don't know which audio interface you have so maybe there are other problems.
Your monitors should be at ear level, and the foam is not effective as soundproofing, its meant for the acoustic treatment of a room. I would also suggest that you get small floor isolation pads for your guitar amps, a small square of carpet would work great.
@dacstudios777 if have used blackets and foam for sound proofing in the vocal booth. I usually also have a piece of rug on the floor. I think it works pretty good. Some say, that there should not be to much soundproofing. When I stand, the monitors are ear level and when I sit, I can hear more of the low end. If I would have a building especially for all this stuff, I would make quite a few changes. Thanks for watching.
do you have anything that you dont want/use anymore? I need some equipment in my own studio so it would be awesome if i could get some for free or cheap
@mccrayc15 Well I'm on a budget myself. I had a problem with the firestudio project. I plan to get it fixed but I don't want to sell it cheap. I have ordered a focusrite saffire pro 40. If you want cheap stuff, try guitar center used stuff you might have luck there. also try ebay etc. If you buy used stuff, be careful; you could get burned.
Nice basic set up. You sound a bit from the grt wht North 'eh? I myself would NEVVER put a compressor in the input chain. EVER. At best a limiter but even THAT is NOT a "sound " procedure. My background suggests to stay hitting the yellow NOT RED but once in a while red... on INPUT. ANY ancillary compander WILL bring in noise. I suggest KNOWING your gears limitations and NOT throwing in that compressor ANYWHERE on the input stage. Seems everyone is LAZY and going for that HOT mix. Good set up
@101AOK I like having the compressor; one of the main reasons is, it looks cool with the lights and buttons. I also like the mixer and comp. to make the studio look more tecnical to people who think that is how it should look. You can do a lot with software these days. I also like to boost of the preamps of the mixer for some stuff. I try to avoid getting in input of the presonus to red. The compressor also has a limiter, if blinking red sometimes, in most cases the audio is usable.
@prruger In a way you are right, however I like the mixer, pluse what you probably don't know is, that the recording interface only has high powered mic preamps in the first two channels. I do have the 3 presonus preamps but that only gives me 5 and the interface has 8 channels. So I usally use 2 of the presonus preamps and put them through channel 3 and 4 for microphones, and use the other channels through the mixer and boost the signal with the mixers builtin preamps. Cheers!
Everything looks good, nice gear, but you really should put your monitor speakers at ear level and angle the toward you. It makes all the difference in the world when it comes to mixing. Oh an nice vocal booth, its huge and you didnt overkill it with acoustic foam like so many others do. All in all thumbs up. Ive got videos up of my studio too if you want to check them out.
@derracsdl I believe that is what they would usually say about monitor position. I really like these monitors but, I think they have a little to much high end and possibly to little low end. However if I have them high like that, I hear more of the low end when i sit. Then again, if I stand up and walk around the room they are about ear level. I usually mix with the monitors, headphones, and a stereo system all in the same room. Thanks for the comment.
