  • i have the same model does anybody know what the big button in the front do?

  • where do i find the password on the box?

  • @aludarkblader It's one the side of the RG and where it written S/N below that is the password for that unit.

  • @James1toknow thank you

  • @aludarkblader Your welcome!

  • My comment cut off. Now which will work? All I'm getting is 3 mega bytes. And I only have or laptop running in the house. I'm so confused! Much needed help. Thanks!

  • @Marinecorpswife100 What do you need to know,,? I installed this service for at&t.

  • Okay question... I just signed up with AT&T just for the Internet. The problem is, I'm cheap and I don't want to pay the $100 for the new modem from AT&T. So I talked to them and they said I could find one somewhere else (eBay, Craigslist, etc) and he said the only 2 that would be compatible was the 2wire 3600 HGV gateway or the 3800 HGV-B gateway. Well I called back to hear from someone else after failing to find either and someone else said the only one compatible is the 3600 HGV... Now what

  • @Marinecorpswife100 You can buy them at best buy.

  • @Marinecorpswife100 Former Marine myself,, why don't you want the unit they provide? I don't know but check best buy and if you can't find one just use there's. Semper Fi!

  • I have the 2 wire white modem right now, bout to instal the same one in video. Hope it works better. The only problem with the 2 wire is getting disconnected when house phone rings... Will this still happen with u-verse modem?

  • @gumyworm14 I'd contact AT&T tech support because that is definitely not right.

  • @gumyworm14 If upi have DSL them you need the filters to stop the disconnection problem.

  • hey is the 2wire gateway bad to use and buying a d link or personal wifi router will make signal better since it runs on 300mbps?

  • @Theblistaknight I'm only using the RG that AT&T provided (plus a switch to extend) and I also have the 24Mbps service. Changing the router to something else won't improve your service because it's still being restricted by the provider.

  • @geminize Correct clocking is controlled by at&t, or if you will internet speed.

  • @geminize the att RG is wireless G tho a d link or seomthing else is wireless N wouldnt it be faster or not rlly depeds on the RG?

  • @Theblistaknight G is supposed to give you speeds of up to 54Mbps, N offers up to 300Mbps. All this of course is in the best possible environment with little to no interference. We're still looking at only 18/24Mbps being provided from AT&T so really the benefits of N is the better range.

  • @Theblistaknight You will only get the service you pay for that is 1 Meg 3 Meg 6 Meg or more. And you need a compatible modem for uverse. No remember the two mother hen rule when installing multiple modems/routers. they will fight for control.

  • @iNEEDJORDANS go to you internet explorer and type 192.168.1.254 on the top search bar this may or may not work this well take you to your modems main page then try finding wher you can change you password

  • how can i set a custom password for the same system?

i want to make a unique password so makes it easier to connect

  • Have to have my gateway replaced every few months . . . every time they replace it with a refurbished unit. It's always the Internet Wi-Fi that fails . . . video and voice never seem to be a problem. The failure mode is wireless disconnect . . . all of a sudden, all my PCs and iPhones and iPads no longer have Wi-Fi until I do a soft reset (button on the back) or hard reset (unplug power for a couple of minutes).

  • @NewMexicoDragon

You you know it's gonna be a refurbished modem as a replacement, then why you wanna replace?

  • @NewMexicoDragon You have a problem with your service,, I had a customer with wireless problems and I found it to be the wireless phones he had in his home they were interfering with the signal at that time the frequency was in the 2.4 range and when they rang or were in use the wireless would drop. He changed out his home phone to a 5.8 Ghz and the problem was solved. Also if your modem experiences faults you need to clear them and resetting the gateway will be only a temp fix.

  • im getting this soon, do you actually get 18mbps?

  • I have a Netgear Max wireless-N router WNR834B ($100 at the time) and the modem shown in the video. The 2wire's signal reaches further, but I haven't compared the two when it comes to port abuse.

I was disappointed when my 2wire was delivered because it was obvious that someone owned it before I did. AT&T promised that I would receive a new router.

  • so wich one is better this one or the smaller white one someone awnser

  • one quick question i use usb cable instead of ethernet cable im about to get a 2wire router...would i still get wifi if i use a usb cable..??

  • @chivaz5000 yes you will, ive had u verse since they first put it out

  • Well it looks like AT&T is now going to be capping UVERSE users to 250 GB a month (you do get to go over, but at a price.) I don't know about the rest of you, but I stream a lot of content and have file transfers to and from work though I haven't ever kept track of my usage. May have to threaten a cancellation with them. My alternative is Road Runner, ugh.

  • I got U-verse a couple weeks ago, and the 2wire that comes with it is now smaller, sleeker, and lighter. (and wireless-n :D)

  • @AmazinglyCrazyMan what is the model number please, thanks

  • I have a question i have a 2wire 2701hg-b and i always get 54Mbps so if i got that would i still get 54Mbps and wold i have to pay more for internet

  • @ronniereiff The 54Mbps means the speed between your wireless computer and the router via wifi, the speed at which you can transfer to the internet is controlled by your ISP. Due to some technical limitations, you won't actually ever seen that speed even if your ISP offered 100Mbps. Hope that helps.

  • Anyway, continuing, I just returned all the STB's and kept the RG (modem) as it is needed for my Internet service. Kept the modem free of charge. No monthly modem rental fees either. I'm sure they'd want it back if I canceled everything, though :) .

  • Wow that's like really old modem/router AT&T used to offer. Now I have the white one and it's better looking and surprisingly better performance

  • I have 6 computers, 3 xboxs, and a wii connected and no problems what so ever... Everthing I have is AT&T , my iPhone , U-Verse and of course my Internet and house phone

  • Another been had customer! hahahahahaha

  • Just wait till you have troubles!!! can anybody say REFURB!

  • @James1toknow Been at least a year and still using the same RG.

  • @geminize Yeah the vendor that makes them finally fixed them? They had us changeing them out eveyday! But it was the technicians fault! Yeah right!

  • @James1toknow Still using the same RG :P

  • @geminize How is the service? I wonder how well he installed it? If you don't mind what's your monthly rate for 18 meg, voip and HD? how many set top boxes? Hey did they try to sell the wireless one yet?

  • @James1toknow I've had very little downtime and may have to reset it once a month due to wireless getting borked somehow, not a huge deal. I've only got the 24Mbps service, I don't have voip or HD on it and it costs me $69/mo. Only the 1 box. And as far as the install went, from what I recall it wasn't a big deal and honestly they shouldn't charge for it.

  • @geminize If you have to reset it then you logging errors I don't have a JDSU to test your line but you can look in the logs on your modem and see the errors,, they might not make sense to you but you shouldn't have to reset your modem once a month,, that's just wrong.Yeah they charge everyone for installs no matter how small.

  • Does anyone know if i cancel JUST my att uverse tv service if they'll take this modem with them?

  • @LBurnathabest Nope they won't. I'm assuming you mean you wish to keep the Internet portion. Not so sure about the VoIP because I never got it in the first place. Anyway, after about 7 months of U-verse TV, I couldn't take much more of it (hehe) so I canceled just the TV portion and kept the Internet portion. I switched back to DISH Network TV and I have no regrets, but that is irrelevant.

  • @LBurnathabest When they came to me door to door, all I had was Road Runner internet and no TV, I told them I wouldn't sign up unless I could only get the internet. They said they could work it out but I had to just sign up for TV and internet and then once it's installed I can call in and cancel the TV. Was pretty painless.

  • @LBurnathabest Only the set top boxes need to go back and the remotes,, if you keep internet service then you will keep your modem,, I do believe!

  • It's much better to get a third party router than be contended with the 2wire modem.

  • yuh wanna know why its big cuz it has fast speeds then it has to connted to tv and phone that whyy!

  • lol, quarter for size refernce.

how has the router been for you? I have and It's been great for gaming.

  • It's pretty featureless but overall it provides decent wifi service. Youtube for a while was having problems loading videos for some reason but now that seems to have gone away.

  • @geminize

thats great. I like this router because it can take some abuse. I have u-verse(5 boxes), two phones, my pc , and my PS3 sucking data from it and I always have 3-4 pings while playing MW2.

  • I myself have 4 24/7 desktops, 2 laptops, and my Hero on it. The WRT54G I used to have, even with dd-wrt on it, would have choked hard on what I'm doing with this 2WIRE.

  • we have 4 pc and 2 xbox360s and it never lags at all

  • we have this same thing its better than what we use to have for wireless but my house is to big and theres like 3 brick walls under drywall blocking the signal

  • does it automatically get type 2 nat and is it good for gaming?

  • @aznboipryde

    yep. it's a good router

  • does it come with nat type 2? easy to configure

  • does it come with nat type 2? is it easy to configure more than my shitty belkin?

  • free wifi?

  • oh wow i open 3-4 a day, im over it

  • I can't wait to get mine, but unfortunely it's not available in my neck of the woods

  • only al roker can say that...
