I was less than a year old when he hit his Game 6 Walk-Off during the '91 World Series, and when I first understood what happened, I proclaimed him one of my sports idols.
One of my favorite players when I was growing up. I remember his heroics in the World Series. I never saw anyone enjoy the game that much, before or since. One of the greatest centerfielders of all time. He is missed.
Kirby Puckett was the Best Center Field ever for the TWINS and he was the Kindest man ever! Wish the Lord didn't call him up so early in life!! RIP KIRBY!! TOUCH EM ALL!!
Beautiful video. Touching tribute. Tremendous person. I have always been a Kirby Puckett fan and was deeply, deeply saddened when I heard of his passing. I used to live on the Wisconsin side of the big river, so even though the first 1/3 of my life i was raised a Cubbies fan, the Twins were always our local team and the ONLY team I will ever love since I was about 11. R.I.P Kirby.
I met Kirby many different times as my mother work 5 miles away from his house on deer lake, the best twins player of all time, hats off kirby, hats off!
Thanks for the great tribute. I grew up in Louisville, KY so I only know 2 Twin's fans, my dad and myself. People would always ask me when I was a kid why I liked the Twins instead of the Yanks or Braves or Reds since they were closer or more popular teams and my answer was always the same, because Kirby Puckett is my favorite baseball player. Miss you Kirby. R I P
i´ll never forget the whites rags on ´91 world series... Puckett´s homerun on game 6, he was amazing.. touch em all KIRBY¡¡¡ Take Care Tigers, we´re going 4 u... RIP Mr Puckett , NO ONE like u
every time i think of him (wich is like all the time) i can remeber the day he died like it was yesterday i bawled for WEEKS he was the best and always will be my hero! RIP 34 KP KIRBYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY PUCKETT!
Even today, more than 3 years after his passing, these videos bring tears to my eyes. If you grew up in Minnesota, or the surrounding states that make up Twins Territory, you had one hero: Kirby Puckett. He was the hero to an entire generation of Twins fans. We will never see another player who played with that much heart, that much love of the game, and with a smile that you couldn't help but enjoy. Thank you, Kirby.
The Center Fielder, #34, KIRBYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY PUCKETT!!!!
get bent dude seriously why do u have to put down a legend and a hero maybe we have something u dont have and thats a hero An Idol someone to look up to
another thing to add to my comment below: the yankee fans on here were still making fun of him for what he did after he got done with baseball: we all know that he made some bad choices, but when you really think about it, he all of a sudden woke up one morning and could not see out of his right eye. then he found out he would not be able ot see out of it ever again, which meant he would never be able to do what he loved most, playing baseball.
kirby was great. i just got done watching a stupid video of yankee fans heckling a MN fan wearing a kirby puckett jersey at yankee stadium. i think its in the related videos on the right, you will have to scroll down a bit but take a look at it, its pathetic. just shows how stupid those yankee fans are.
The dome used to have that for some stupid reason (horrible place for baseball). They removed it some time ago and just keep the first two rows empty. I think the glass kept fans from interferring with a ball in play. Those seats are very close to the field, so now they keep them empty.
I'm a life-long Milwaukee Brewer fan, but like many of my fellow Wisconsin-ites, we have the utmost respect for Kirby Puckett and were deeply saddened to haer of his passing. Like another one of our rivals, Walter Payton, who also left us way too soon, Kirby was a class act and formidable foe, but someone you would have loved to have on your team.
with everything going on in the game today we can only look back and be even more proud on how kirby play the game. i'm proud to say kirby is my hero and will always keep his memory alive in my two sons RIP
Kirby, you are without a doubt, the greatest Minnesota Twin of all time. You were a great player, and an even better person. 1987 and 1991 are years Twins fans will never forget, and you are the reason. Good bye my friend.
I was born and raised in Minnesota. I saw Kirby play 15 times. It was an unbelievble experience, to see the player that I loved all my life. I would only talk about Kirby when I was a kid. I now live in AZ, and he died not far from where I lived. It was one of the saddest moments in my life.
I've lived in Minnesota all my life and Kirby was a true home town hero. He will always be the face of Minnesota Twins. We will all miss you Kirby. We love you!
This is a Braves fan speaking. God bless Kirby Puckett and everything that he stood for in the game of baseball. I never fully understood his situations outside of the game, but I know for a fact that he was the type of player that I could handle losing to. Baseball and the Minnesota Twins lost a great ambassador when we lost Kirby Puckett.
The best citizen the game has ever known. Was a joy to watch and when a kid came into contact with him he made it seem like they were his only fan. A true player who brought the game back to the fan.
Great clip. I will always be a fan. Not only for the memories he gave my generation with his accomplishments on the baseball field, but for how he had to deal with the vulture-like media who tore him down for the sheer joy of it. Kirby, the hero the everyday guy.
I would have loved to have video footage! I could not get it to upload, my computer was not behaving the day I did this. I have a short video from when I was at the make shift memorial in the days after his passing. Thanks for looking and taking the time to comment!
We miss you Kirby, you were a true legend.
