Sixteen Tons and whaddya get? Another day older and deeper in debt. Saint Peter don't be calling cos I can't go. I owe my soul to the company store.....
I remember these days. I saw them at the Pallaiudium In Manhattan right around this time. This was the last great days of Rock n Roll. Lennon had about 6 months left on the planet, & everything seemed great. It was all about to end. Music was about to become MTV. Everything was about to become one big commercial in the 1980s, & ever since
But music went out with one last great bang. These were the days of Clash, Elvis Costello, Blondie. All of them were about to turn incredibly commercial, but not yet. Even the big stars were great then, Springsteen & Tom Petty- even Pat Benetar was good back then. It seemed like it all went bad after that assassination of Lennon in 1980, it seemed that way to me anyways. They all stoped caring about the music after that & it just became a buisness.
Rock & roll became exactly what it had always stood against. That was a fukkin drag too. Maybe it would have happened anyway, but that assassination really seemed to have fucked everything
the mixed rock punk reggae ska ...a combination which i´ve always enjoyed...like the police the specials the beat madness...the best shit of the 80´s and late seventies ...of course from england
