I want to have a keyboard like that, but with a better aesthetic design. It's style reminds me of something from pre 2000. I understand the point is ergonomics, but they could have made it look better then 2 blocks with a place to rest your hands.
Funny.. Such a "modern" and "ergonomic" keyboard still uses the QWERTY layout. Thousands of English words can be typed with only the left hand. Only a few hundred with the right. If you're typing in English, and using QWERTY, then not only will it slow you down, it will fatigue your left hand a hundred times more than your right hand.
ever thought about... playing videogames with that? I mean, one of both hand modules would be enough, to give plenty of quick action compared to a regular keyboard or Razer Nostromo or Logitech G13, where you would move your finger away and towards a larger distance in total than just indicating any direction with the DataHand!?
WTF? If you use a $995 DataHand *WHY THE HELL WOULD YOU NOT PUT THEM VERTICALLY ON THE ARM RESTS OF YOUR CHAIR??* (Notice how the wrists are still angled in most pictures.
@Evi1M4chine: Angled in what direction? Sideways or up/down? You can find studies pro and contra any of the (alleged) benefits of ergonomic keyboards. There’s a surprising lack of independent research, most of the studies are made by companies or institutes who are involved in the production of these devices — directly or indirectly. But my personal opinion is that especially the most obvious flaws, like asymmetrically staggered rows ough to be be cast into the abyss of forgettable inventions.
@hammondtr: So a cheap Chinese plastic fake without the mechanism that’s reducing the key forces is supposed to be a worthy alternative? Not for me. Mass production would make the datahand much cheaper without being forced to reduce the built quality. I prefer paying a fair price for high quality.
But the market is small and people still prefer the 150 years old QWERTY keyboards with staggered rows and asymmetrical hand stress because of pure superficial reasons or pure lack of knowledge.
It will not be useful if I have to take my hand to MOUSE outside of this keyboard range. This keyboard HAS to be used as mouse while hands placed on it.
@Nelsanity A lot of people get keyboard injuries when they actually do work. Data entry workers and programmers are among the worst, as they're often typing non-stop all day.
Too bad QWERTY-keyboard is standard. The placing of keys was made to slow writing speed for old typewriters because they got stuck when typing was too quick.
Well... here we are now. With our slow and unergonomic QWERTY-keyboards and only thing that slows us changin the standard is ourselves. Ironic.
@paroxyzm21 You got 1000 Bugs? Well, then go ahaed - buy it. I would - for that price - buy a great, new Computer/Laptop AND Voice recognition a software ;-).
80% less force needed to hit the keys? I can't imagine my keys being easier than they are (except maybe that you don't feel it at all?), maybe my fingers are just too strong.
i just realized that you cant be missing any fingers or hands for this to work. anyone with a slight handicap would benefit from a traditional keyboard.
Carpal tunnel due to typing? Just stretch out your hands once in a while. I've been playing piano for 20 years. Ever played Bach? It's doing the same repetitive movements over and over. It's very cool and could increase efficiency and speed, but I doubt that it's any safer than typing on a normal keyboard.
okay, i'm going to admit, that that's the MOST awesome looking.. "keyboard" (can it be called one?-i dunno) that i've ever seen ever, however i don't think that someone can actually become good at that unless they practice for an extremely long time with it, unless you grow up using it i can't imagine someone actually getting very good at using it, also, how friggin' epic would it be gaming with one of those.. really though think about that.
Price is prohibitive for a casual user. This keyboard may be an option for professional typists that will deduct this as a business expense, though...
Studies quoted at the website look impressive, and suggest a potential decrease of business expenses related to worker injury...
Seems to be a technology that should find its place with businesses that depend on heavy typing to meet deadlines, but without brutality of tendon pain...
dude seriously this looks soo darn confusing to use... and i bet that lady isn't even typing anything.... even if someone were to figure out how to use it like a normal keyboard, it would take like years of practice to be able to type that fast on that thing...
@2BSilveR I've rigged my pc with an Electro-Magnetic field that will proceed to shock anyone who touches my computer without proper identification. Yeah, I'd like to see you try.
Not really. It's actually just as easy if not easier to use than a QWERT. For instance look at your hand on the keyboard. To press "f" you push down. To press "r" you move the same finger up, then push down. With the Datahand, to press "f" you move the finger down. To press "r" you move the finger up. If you know how to use a QWERT, you already know how to use a Datahand ... except the Datahand is twice as fast since 90% of the movement is removed.
I would like someone to write with 120 gwam like i do on this keyboard. I would really like to try it out, but i will stick with my original for now!!
the have been producing it for a long enough time to come up with wireless version (especially taking into account the price, wireless module wouldn't make a difference)
If the price would have been about 500 and it had been wireless I'd considered it very seriously.
this thing has to be like 5 years old, look at the wires it uses and how big it is, the screen looks really old to, they could have made it wireless 2 years ago and smaller with a small lcd screen.
Yeah, they're great. Mouse is done via selecting a mode then using the index fingers to move l,r,u,d and right and left click. Moving both index fingers in same direction moves mouse faster.
It works for World of Warcraft. Very well for some things (very quick macro triggering, etc) and not so well for other things (ie camera moving, quick mousing...). Damn quick stun rogues get me...
I've done many tens of thousands of lines of code with the datahands and would otherwise be very sore.
