  • 2:34... boy oh boy :D

  • When I first heard this album it sounded to me like a mountain lion being raped in a broom closet...then I played it on a cold snowy night, just looking out the window and it hit me...I get it...this stuff is classic!

  • 6 people should die

  • @viper43blade bahahaahah yes indeed!

  • TNBM, i found myself loving it

  • anyone have any suggestions like this album and Hammerheart by Bathory?

  • @AIC2374

If you like the whole Viking scene, check out Amon Amarth

  • @AIC2374 Check out Enslaved albums! Especially Frost!

  • @SlayerMegadeth86 ik thanks! i've already bought that album since hearing this and i love it

  • i always payed tons of attention to Thrash, Old school DM, Jazz DM, Grunge, Prog Metal, you name it...

WHY THE FUCK DIDNT I EVER PAY ATTENTION TO BLACK METAL?! This album and Bathory's Hammerheart forever changed my view on black metal. Stuff kicks ass

  • noise, thats all

  • I love how this song ends and I am the Black Wizards starts on the album. It is like how Us and Them ends and Any Colour You Like starts on Dark Side of the Moon.

  • @neutrino3333 I completely agree. That explosion at 4:44 is such a climatic release from all the buildup of the song, only to flow right into the most devastating riff at the beginning of 'I am the Black Wizards'.

Truly monumental part of the album. It's just sad most people are too worried about whether Emperor or Mayhem are better? Wtf...they're both good, end of story, discuss Emperor.

  • simply spectacular...as I walked outside and looked up the Milky Way... I knew these kids had nailed it...

  • from their best times

  • So hauntingly beautiful...

  • Love this and the one after , well after Welk anthems whatever they suck in my opinion.

  • Emperor are my 2nd fave black metal band of all time, 2nd only to the master, the creator, the legend, the genius..Bathory.

  • hahaha...Mayhem has no musical talent?!How do you explain the totally fucking dark soundscapes...Also Grand dec. is a great album.

  • @SSlashDementia LOL landscapes...ohh that must be a sophomoristic metaphor; look, mayhem is terrible. Listen to it. Just play a song and listen. It's God awful, and don't try and tell me it's suppose to be that way etc. It's music, it's suppose to sound good in one way or another. There is no redeeming quality in mayhem. Unless you suck as much as the music then you could defend it which is, I'm guessing what's hppened there.

  • @toforlaw Sure dude, you obviously know what your talking about.

  • IMO Mayhem's only good album is De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas (fucking great album actually). But Satyricon and Emperor made plenty of great albums, not just one. Hence, they're better than Mayhem.

  • @magiclic666 Yeah, but at the same time, where do you think those bands got their influence?

  • there better than mayhem. but there not better than the TRUE mayhem

  • i'm no black metal scholar, but mayhem sounds like shit. i mean, really.

  • @000MidnightSun You don't need to be a bm scholar to realize that. Mayhem are much more notable for their influence on bm that their actual musical ability. Although Hellhammer really is a kick-ass drummer...

  • @000MidnightSun You're gonna get a lot of shit for that comment.

  • @000MidnightSun Totally agree.

  • @000MidnightSun if you think mayhem sounds shit, then you haven't got a fucking clue about this kind of music and your opinion means nothing.

Mayhem created the black metal sound with songs like Pagan Fears sounding so epic and atmospheric through the twin guitar playing up and downing scales, whilst layered underneath brutal and fast metal! No black metal band came close to that perfection, except maybe darkthrone and beherit.

  • @Lord6of9Uk "De Mysteriis..." had some excellent music on it. Other than that album however, I agree that Mayhem's catalogue is garbage. They (nor any other band in the scene) came close composition-wise or atmospherically to Emperor. I for one think that Emperor's music transcended the black metal "scene", but even within that second wave of BM, Burzum and Darkthrone were far superior to Mayhem.

  • @Lord6of9Uk Burzum?

  • *Mnjam*I love black metal...

  • masterpiece-i miss this cold and mysterious nightside soundscapes

  • They need a comback!

  • 0:40 Metroid?

  • These powers are under my control. Now I am one with the night sky majesty.

  • Look it up then, dumbass.

  • Sabbath wasn't the first you motherfucker, Blue Cheer was established and considered heavy metal before anyone else... Sabbath even covered their songs on tour. A derp eh derp a der I'm ignorant as fuck

  • @DivinityOfDoom chill dude who fucking cares, we ave metal now, and thats all that matters, who cares who did it first.....

  • Sabbath was the first band that played true metal, the other bands like Deep Purple, Zeppelin, etc were INFLUENTIAL, not true metal bands.

  • Ah BEAUTIFUL!!! Way back in the awesome early 90's my friend and I were driving down the road listening to this. And it started snowing!!!! It doesn't snow much here except on rare occasion. What a great thing to remember when listening to this masterpiece!!!

  • My really old comment. But i have to say Mayhem and Emperor is just as equaly good in their own way. I've listened to them for a while and thats what i have decided.

  • sickness!

  • Just awesome. Hell yeah, Mortiis used to play with Emperor... almost forgot that fact. :) Hehhehehe. One very great band back those days!

  • i've been listening to black metal for about seven years now and i've always overlooked this album. maybe thats a lucky thing cos i get to enjoy it now. and good post '94 black metal is almost unheard of. drudkh, nargaroth all that shit is so boring and typical and gay.

  • @lokisunwheel

Drudkh is shit and gay? Boy, don't underestimate that music! It's always a thing of taste, but it's a totally differnt style of music from what Emperor used to do. But it certainly is NOT shit! Just say "I don't like it", and we're okay ;)

  • Cant leave out Celtic Frost they had a part in this too.

  • awesome looking album cover

  • FUUUCKKK i want this album so badly....but its so hard to find :'( such a masterpiece...

  • @FLIPPITYFLOOP online stores????

  • @114dad true say

  • burn alive all those people who say emperor influenced cradle of filth or dimmu borgir.

cradle of filth or dimmu borgir aren't black metal (maybe dimmu borgir were BM on some on their former albums but they aren't anymore for sure).

  • i wouldnt say that...you can still be influenced by one band but not sound like them

  • i agree, cradle was influenced a lot by iron maiden but they don't sound too much like them at all

  • @Mixterfizzyfizz they were also influenced by emperor and mayhem ect...

  • :37 to :56 best part of the entire album

  • ....z..z.z..z.z.z.z.zzz.z..z

  • If there is a way to BM for me, the it can only go through Emperor!

Wacken 2010 is awaiting (with Ihsahn)!

  • This music makes me wanna get all my friends together and headbang around a huge bonfire of burning jonas brother cds

  • HAHA HELL YEA!!!

Ooops! gave you a thumbs down by mistake! Anyway, Hail Emperor!

  • can i come?

  • Yes u may haha

    Hail Emperor!

  • @doolb666 HAILS! \m/

  • Awesome picture you've got there. Made it yourself? Is that Mortiis in the middle?

And the song is legendary, 5/5

  • Like you Motherfucker!!!

  • @hernanbox die

  • so beutfifull at 2:25

  • HAIL EMPEROR!

  • great!!! <3 emperor

  • this is ''real'' black metal!!!!

  • as opposed to what? Just curious

  • 'In The Nightside Eclipse' is simply a classic!Nothing more to add about that.

    Emperor came,saw..and definitely conquered....HAIL EMPEROR!!!

  • in my opinion I would say many bands pioneered BM- Bathory, Venom, Hellhammer all influenced the many aspects of True BM- especially the Norwegian BM bands that came many years after. HAIL 666

  • melancolico gran banda emperor

  • tää on näitä ikivihreitä, hurjilta nuoruusvuosilta...iskee edelleen ku manne puukolla!

  • u se3e i have been listening to black metal for years,i must confess that this band different frm all other bands ,because they have combined rythum and melody with heavy guitar and drums that why they so different ,damn and fuck all who dont like emperor

  • ok im a little confused, the album nightside eclipse, and the wrath of tyrant are they the same album only with diffrent covers, because on amazon it has the wrath of tyrant cover yet it has the sound of this album,.

  • Comment removed

  • Wrath of the Tyrant was origanally a demo on cassette- it has some of the songs which appear on the "Nightside... LP- which is their first "official" release on Candlelight records. There is later versions of Wrath on LP and CD. 666

  • this is a great track..my favourite Emperor song is 'inno a satana' i like this symphonic black-metal more than dimmu borgir, but still prefer the old-skool raw shit!

  • for me mayhem are first....because they took the music from death/grind to a next level which is today is called black metal...emperor assure this by creating this masterpiece ...if u dont like them fuck off...

  • Vikingg mettal!!

  • Mayhem de mysteriis dom sathanas and this album from emperor I hold as the premier black metal albums by far materpieces

  • This is my favorite Emperor albumn. In my opinion it's a not just a masterpiece but the defining sound every black metal artist wished they could make. Even the heavier guitar oriented bands like mayhem, who have zero musical talent.

  • who the fuck are you to say Mayhem have have no talent! u havent a clue have u?!!

Mayhem started the whole black metal genre and are fucking LEGENDS!!

if u heard something like PaganFears.. now thats making atmoshpheric and complex musicianship out of extreme metal

  • Actually venom started the influence on the whole genre they made a song called black metal

  • i'm well aware of Venom and what they have done!

  • Dude im gonna be serious we dont know if mayhem is good or not just cause they started black metal doesnt mean shit it doesnt make them legends Venom created black metal not mayhem do you research retard

  • excuse me but we do know mayhem are good due to...umm..how about, the music they've fucking made!!! and Venom invented the 'term' black metal....Mayhem started the true NORWwegian black metal.

    how about that research knobhead!

  • Comment removed

  • i know there are other great bands out there for fucks sake... and btw, mayhem arent my favourite band, it happens to be The Kovenant who are freakin sic \m/

  • No, I'm sick of people saying "Do some research" when they're saying Venom started Black Metal, that just sounds like you read about it without actually listening to it, Venom are a fantastic band but they aren't Black Metal AT ALL.

  • To pioneer the music you have to play that kind of music, but if you're just talking about the term then it's my mistake, you don't need to throw an emo tantrum about it.

  • Bathory pioneered black metal Venum just had a song entitled black metal.

  • Canadians pioneered buttsecks.

  • Comment removed

  • Venom put out the -ALBUM- titled black metal, and it was fairly influential among a good number of BM artists, that does not, however, make venom a black metal band. Bathroy's earlier albums had a decent influence too but Bathory's Viking-themed stuff was way better if you ask me.

It's like when people say "black sabbath invented metal" It's such a bullshit statement; no one artist can truly make that claim.

  • Black sabbath is one of *many* bands who were influential and formed the basis of what we now call metal. As I said, *NO ONE SINGLE BAND* can make that claim. there was no -first- as there will be no last. It's more abstract than that. It's like saying "who invented classical music" or "who invented rock" It's just not a valid question.

  • i agree

  • @macrobuerk What is that?

  • @macrobuerk That made me LOL.

  • seriously man, i can see you like Judas Preist alot!!! but they have fuck all to do with the invention of metal and definetly not black metal. do you honestly beleive what you've said!!? ; /

Mayhem are the first influence of NorBlackMetal and Venom influenced them before that. i'd say the band that was the first metal band was black sabbath!

  • Actually thats not untrue they invented or made speed metal big upon the Metal scene

But this is one HELL of a song

  • @greatmahoo

Yeah, there is a band that created metal.

And we all know it was mother fucking BLACK SABBATH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @theblizzard1

Look up: WItchcraft Coven, Blue Cheer, the crazy world of Aurthur Brown. All came before sabbath and contributed elements that sabbath would become. It's a common misconception that I don't really -blame- anyone for buying into, but it's a misconception all the same. Saying that Sabbath "invented" metal is an extremely reductionist way of looking at things, and misses the mark by a solid lightyear.

  • @greatmahoo I think Black Sabbath is wholely responsible for providing the aesthetic parts of such Music as this band and similar ones, they're "dakenedness" but of course Black Sabbath did not "form" metal, but they were the most influential to what makes stuff like Emperor today.

  • @greatmahoo there's a big list of bands who have done some work of creating metal but no single band. Truth are your words my friend.

  • @greatmahoo

Bah! Monteverdi invented classical music, Bill Haley invented rock, and Blue Cheer invented metal.

  • @cavealieniv

    Metal?

Blue Cheer? What about Atomic Rooster? Bloodrock? Aurthur Brown? King Crimson? ELP? Pink Floyd (Nile Song, Ibiza Bar) Leafhound? They're all just ripping Blue Cheer? I really don't think so.

  • @greatmahoo

Blue Cheer released Summertime Blues in 1968. Atomic Rooster, Bloodrock, King Crimson, ELP, and Leafhound didn't even exist until 1969 or later, and Pink Floyd released Soundtrack from the Film More in 1969. I don't think they ripped Blue Cheer, they may not have heard of them for all I care, but Blue Cheer did it first, and that's all that matters.

  • @cavealieniv

except it's -not- "all" that matters, because Blue Cheer didn't "invent". Sure they strung together influences to form a 'heavier' sound than many of their contemporaries, but you're still talking psychedelic rock melodies, and arguable, Vanilla Fudge, despite the singer, had a more "metal" sound. and recorded tracks several years earlier, but callling VF or BC the "inventors" would be kinda silly since neither of them can really be called such. Contributing factor != invention.

  • @greatmahoo

Every invention be it in music or science has contributing factors, all you can do is credit whoever made the breakthrough.

  • The Scorpions.

  • please fuck off! i have no idea what your talking about and i dont really care.

people like you is one of the reasons i cant be fucked with You-fucking-tube anymore!!

    im out..

  • Emperor were the first black band to use keyboards, which completely goes against the original idea of norge black metal..which is too make it raw and epic with justs guitars, drums and bass like mayhem, darkthrone, gorgoroth etc. had done.

so learn your music before saying that a great band has zero talent...its just YOUr opinion!

  • i have to say i prefer Mayhem to Emperor! they are THE defining black-metal band...

  • Ehhh there not too great Satyricon and emperor is one of the best but satyricon sold themselves out to the whore media

  • I like a bit of the ol' emperor for symphonic values, and maybe a few Satyricon numbers...but honestly they are not better than Mayhem in anyway! imo and many others..

check out Pagan Fears by Mayhem, and you'll understand!

  • Comment removed

  • Mayhem are awesome and basically started the Norwegian black metal scene

  • @MaYHeM1987666 having listened to This Enitre Album and the entire De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas i'd hvae to pick this.

  • @ih8makinusernames i don't think MaYHeM1987666 actually cares which one you pick!!! ; /

  • @demoniclord91367 sold out??naah man they just wanted to do something different

  • @toforlaw I personally prefer "anthems to the welkin at dusk", but I agree with you. Emperor is the best black metal band ever. Although I think Mayhem DO have musical talent.

  • @toforlaw Did you just say Mayhem has zero musical talent? I'm actually couldn't believe when I read that? You must be joking or very stupid, and know nothing of black metal. Unbelievable

  • well istill dont agree y dunce ,dimwit, are y trying to put words in my mouth regarding what to say ,andwhat to not say,y better watch yr own tongue lackey.

  • well idont agree death is totally different in growls and guitar playing, y got to hear both again and then make comment. dude.

  • Better you first think before writing... He meant "death" the vocalist, not the music.

  • i think you mean 'dead' the vocalist from Mayhem!!! anyway..Rob21OG was refering to the death as in when you die, not death metal like dawwood said lol

  • this song has a realy eerie middle part which is very atmospheric and reminds me about death! This album is classic...

  • Their old stuff was amazing. This is definately one of the greatest black metal albums ever.

  • 0:37 are soooo amazing! one of the best killerriffs ever! long live emperor!

  • hell yes!

  • didnt expect it to be this good

  • Good memories...

  • hai ragione ..

    chiediglielo a marco dimitri..

  • Scusami...ma non capisco cosa c'entra Marco Dimitri.

  • era ironia un po' acida, se conoscessi la sua storia dovresti capire..

  • Marco Dimitri lo conosco...i massmedia ci sguazzano nelle falsità...!

  • CULT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • It's spelled KVLT.

  • aren't you cool

  • No, I'm KVLT. :)

  • its the majesty of the second half that makes this song great!

  • Both halves are majestic last time I checked.

  • AMAZING
