this is a good car to start with but what i find funny about it is that the chevy model of this car called the chevy tracker is made with a body from chevrolet, the engine is from suzuki and the transmision is from toyota. weird mix
@juanes00 the chevy tracker sucks compared to the quality of other chevys and it passed very well from IIHS. the dummy had barely any injuries. read the discription. its not that bad.
Read the description. The car got an acceptable. ONE AWAY FROM THE HIGHEST RATING. "Injury measures — Measures taken from the neck, chest, and both legs indicate low risk of injuries to these body regions in a crash of this severity. Forces on the head indicate that injuries to the head would be possible. Head acceleration from the roof rail hit was low"
@peterfarrow Eurotrash do not care for the safety of their people the way we do. Why do they crash car's slower than the us, and give trash car's good mark's there? Because they no not care.
Acceptable? Doesn't look acceptable. Looks like that bitch hit her head on some jagged steel on its way back to the seat. If that was a person, I can't help but think they would be busted up!
Over here in UK, this car would have been given 3 stars if that.( Five+ being best rating NCAP)
The way the roof side rails, A Pillars deform is not a good even for an older car design. High likelihood of injury or death as no doubt the floorpan in region of drivers feet, dashboard and bulkhead (firewall) all moved forward and upwards. Seperate frame construction doesn't make a car safer in a crash unless you're hitting a much smaller, lighter object.
I've just seen crash test footage of a mid nineties Citroen Xantia and it wasn't good which is a shame since I drive one. I guess the moral of the tale is don't crash a mid to late nineties car. I certainly won't stop me driving one as the pros outweigh the cons. It's all relative anyway and one has to put things such as crash tests and risk into some sort of perspective. (Good channel by the way)
I think you are right, both my wife and I have Vitara V6's and my "fun" car is an Impreza Turbo, compared to the latest cars, none of these are quite so safe, but as you say the pro's outweigh the cons, cheaper road tax, cheaper to buy, cheaper parts. I have a great time the Suzuki, its still fun to drive even after being in the Pro Drive impreza Series McRae.
@TK42138 You should see crash tests from cars even earlier. The problem is that they have less crumple zones, so it looks better. But the driver gets decelerated too quickly. These cars getting wadded up is actually a good thing.
I was looking at footage of a 1997 Citroen Xantia in an offset and it was frightening. No real strength in sills or roof pillars and yet the car is comparitively heavy. However I still like driving it because the ride is uncannily smooth. I guess the trick is try not to have any sort of impact. This is where driver education comes in and better active safety.
Typical yank, talking out your backside, no real foundation in fact and blowing off all over everyone else's comments, do yourself and everyone else here a favour and turn off your computer.
I got this car. It sucks...First time I went offroading with it, the rear suspension broke...the second time I blew up a piston ring. its still under repair
That's at a high speed into a solid barrier. The video doesn't compare it to anything else. They are strong vehicles. I had an accident with a minivan with mine and the van fell apart. Mine had no damage.
I was in a 55 mph head on crash in one of these, as someone pulled out into my path, and I went away with just a broken leg. Good vehicle.

Yeap you def never want to be a dummy.
I think in this car you would stand more of a chance at living if you left the seat belt off and flew threw the windscreen.

wrong again, can you make it a hat-trick?
Europe makes the fastest, best handling cars and its been that way since Europeans first invented the car.
None of your comments have any basis in fact, I can't think of any reason to post any further.

if thats a 99 vitara (as shown on the door sticker) being crash tested then why the hell are they made up to 2005?

I think its because that model was made from 1999-2004 and the new one was introduced in 2005
